I am on the fence about him riding this too BTW. He has either been winning, or on the ground a bit lately. This seems like one of those ones his arrogance (which I love) might steer the bike. As a fan, of course I want to watch him race, just nervous about it. I want him healthy for the MXoN, we need all of the help we can get in that race to shut up a few of the troublemakers here!! (at least for another year).
If he gets a start sunday he will blow by and away from those guys easy then may get a few seconds off at the end.
Really according to how the track shapes up,seen it fast and seen it ruff.

Still though I think he has a legitimate shot. Sure wish more of the GP guys were health, what a rough season its been.
You were kind of a surprise entry into the MXGP of USA at Glen Helen. When was that decided?
It wasn’t as last minute as it seemed, but the biggest thing was figuring out if I’d be able to do it or not because of the hectic testing schedule we already have for MXoN. Yamaha had to build me two race bikes to be sent over to Europe and then I would need a practice bike. We had to make sure we had everything dialed in for the MXoN before we switched gears for the GP. We’ve got everything taken care of for France, so now we’re getting things taken care of for the GP at Glen Helen. I’ve wanted to do it from the beginning, but like I said, I just wasn’t sure if we would be able to pull all of that stuff off in time for the Grand Prix. I’m a huge follower of that series and I watch every round, so it’s intriguing to me. I think it’ll be a good warmup race, as well, since I’ll be racing against a lot of the Euro guys that’ll be in France. I’ll be able to get a first-hand impression as far as the schedule goes, too. I think this is going to be the perfect race to get our feet wet for the MXoN.
Since you’ve been following the GP series, then you know that a lot of the top guys are sidelined due to injuries. How do you think you’ll stack up at the GP?
It’s hard to say. There are a lot of really fast guys that I’ve never raced with before so we just have to wait and see. Obviously I’ll be racing a 450 for the first time even though I did race the bigger bike in Japan last year, but this is going to be a much larger stage. And yes, we did Monster Cup on a 450, but that’s still in my comfort zone, so to speak being that it’s a Supercross race. It’ll definitely be interesting with guys like Cairoli that were expected to win from the beginning, but have been out due to an injury. I’m just hoping to mix it up with those guys. Plus, it’s at a track that I ride quite a bit, so that should play into my favor even though that track is completely different on race day. With a good start, I think our chances are good. I’m not going to say that I should be the winner, but I do expect a top five or even a podium finish. I absolutely think I can win, but I just don’t want to put too much pressure on myself.
After watching Ryan Villopoto’s struggles over in Europe, did that sort of open your eyes? Maybe even change your mind?
Yes and no. I work with Gareth Swanepoel and he raced in the GP circuit for a long time and he’s kept me informed that the style of racing is completely different than what we’re used to over here. I think RV had some struggles, whether it be the bike or the tracks or whatever the case may be. From what Swanie and I had talked about, he thought that maybe he was struggling due to the fact that he was testing here on tracks that don’t stack up to those over there. It definitely opened my eyes and I’ve always known that those guys are fast. I even got to see most of them when they came here for the MXoN in Colorado a few years ago. For me, I think a lot of those guys have really cool riding styles and they really look like they’re not even trying and as a racer, that’s something you can admire. With RV, though, I honestly thought he was going to be in it to win, which he was ’til he got hurt. No matter who you are, though, it’s a tremendous feat to go dominate a new series that you’ve never experienced. I knew he would be a title contender, but I also knew that he wasn’t going to win every race.
