SoCal is not NorCal.

California is huge state with very distinct regions
On my first trip to CA days after my 18th birthday Phil Alderton's father sent me to sales training in Concord CA and spent five days with these seasoned sales professionals. I was referred to as "the kid" all week.

I learned a lot that week IE

1) A salesman NEVER gets into the car with his sport jacket or suit jacket on. Whenever I see people on TV or in movies do this I go DOH!

2) Los Angeles is the center of the universe. Seriously I did hear that frequently as well as "Oh is that a suburb of LA?" whenever a city was mentioned even if it was in Iowa.

It was a life changing experience.

A few thoughts...

I think Honda owns the building in Torrance so a company like that isn't just going to relocate to Texas.

Japanese bikes come from...Japan. California has ports where those products enter the US. Maybe they like to be headquartered near the point of entry.

Street bike business. Good weather for street bike testing. Why split mx from street and have more leases and personnel strewn about the country?

As for the state in general, a lot of us ride mx AND off road. If you want to do it all, all year long, California is hard to beat. Pine forests in the north, desert in the south, mx tracks all over.

I could not live anywhere else. My city has a average high temp of 72. It can be 72 in August or January. It rarely rains so I don't know when the last time I checked a weather forecast. Beach 5 miles, mountains, half hour, desert an hour, beautiful rolling hills that look like Italy...right out my back door. Riding year round and u either where long sleeves or short. Plus my remodel wages are triple what my relatives charge that live in states that are supposedly more affordable. There are many total shitholes on Cal but your best bet is just don't live there and they are not a issue. You generally get what you pay for and the housing is expensive for a reason. I go all over the country and honestly have never found another state that I could live in, great places to visit but not to live full time. Oh, and my large yard is green and plush....don't believe everything the negative media spews, water still comes out of the hose.

Traffic is all dependent on where you live at in California.

But the other items listed on your "bad" list unfortunately sting no matter where you live in the state.

Money talks to big business...and if it becomes more profitable to move those locations out of state they'll do it.

The high taxes are why businesses are leaving the state. I know of so many people that moved from SoCal to Las Vegas, completely for tax purposes. And I know so many people who moved from CA to Utah to get away from liberals, taxes, and cost of living.

That's good to hear...at least one of you won't be moving to Utah, then.

So many Californians here, I-15 is now THE 15...and even life long Utahns are calling it that.

I personally know 3 families that have relocated to the Salt Lake area. First thing one buddy asked was "did they always call it 'The 15'?"... I just chuckled and said no, people like you are the cause of that. Laughing

Utah is a beautiful state and one I will go through when we take a RV trip in the fall. But when I got snowed on during a SX race at the end of April that told me the weathers not for me. Nice State though and the crowd at the SX was comparable to Seattle for quality of people. Down here it is to the point where I am not sure I can take another SX due to the disgusting people in attendance. I wish they would just go hit the bars and save the racing for the fans

Truth be told, my father was born and raised in Sacramento and is a CA transplant, so I can't talk to loud about all the Californian migration. Wink

Oh, and I was at that super cross...super cold! But, I'd rather ride in 40 degree weather than 80 degree weather any day. So I still ride almost all winter.

Most the tracks out here are on well water. It's the hottest time of the year right now so they are a bit more dry but no different from last year.

I live in the Oxnard/Ventura area and you can't beat our weather here. I was born and raised in this area but when retirement comes in a couple of years I will have to leave this area. Way too expensive here. Hopefully will end up close to my sister in eastern Oregon.

Back when I was racing we had all the big tracks to pick from. Indian Dunes, Bay Mare, Racing World, Saddleback, Cycle Haven (anybody remember that one in Long Beach?) Riverside GP's , Spillway Park in Santa Maria. There are still many places to go and see Moto, Drag Racing, IndyCar and on and on. So Cal has it all.

Grew up in Bakersfield in the late 60's to early 70's. Riding was great. Miles of foothills, right from the garage. Now, virtually no open riding there. San Pedro, Culver City, Torrance, Glendale in the early 70's was already becoming too urbanized for open riding when we moved down south.

The tracks were abundant in the valley, though. No desire to live out west anymore.

Our local scene in central Florida sucks for riding, unless you are in the private track click. No open riding, unless you hit the Croom ORV park, which is brutal in the summer.

We do get our share of rain here, though. This was my hood just a couple of weeks ago.

Does anyone care if it's in Cali? As long as the sport stays healthy, why does it matter?

I always wonder how our tracks afford the water bill. Makes sense now

I was curious what you were talking about so I googled it;

I tried to understand and comprehend exactly what all that mumbo jumbo about electricity actually meant, I really did. Came up short.

Don't forget the San Andreas fault line going and killing everyone Dry Joking Tongue

With all this sudden interest in Florida for mx anyone feel like we could be seeing an equally popular destination for the average rider? I'm in Australia so I have no idea if it could or couldn't work but you can't deny a huge ride park in Florida would be sweet Cool

Sweet depends on if you are a fan of hot humid weather or not. If you are Florida is your place.

I've road just about every weekend this summer. Bartow is usually open. Florida tracks and trails is sick, know a few private tracks, Tampa has been open and now Orlando MX!! Can't wait to ride Orlando but plenty of places have been open. Have got dumped on by rain this year though.

Ca by 2030 wants to cut fuel usage by 50 %. The same goes for electricity from non renewables. Fuel usage cut by 50% means everyone drives an electric car or fuel rationing. No other way to achieve that.

CA is an amazing state and truly I wish I had never left. But now my career and my life is in TX so it is what it is.

If you enjoy doing a lot of fun stuff, CA is the place to me.
