The track is supposed to be deep sand, it could be the best man made track that we've seen so far.

Hope this doesn't turn out to be a fiasco like the Lausitzring-track in 2013. A lot of injuries that GP. I don't believe in MX-tracks that are built just a few days in advance, the sand never can "sink in" to become a proper soil. Hope I'm wrong, but ruts will be deep and unpredictable.

They say the layer of sand will be 75cm thick. It's very clean and soft white sand.
Don't think it is as soft as Lommel but it's not that far off

I hope that it's deeper and thicker than that. That looks like a "sand" section from a Daytona SX.

If it's proper sand it won't really matter that it's flat. I'll reserve judgement on it till I see it

OK , I gotta ask this. But what is with all the " sand tracks " in the GP's over the past 5yrs or so? I always remembered the GP's having a couple here and there , but now it seems like every other track is sand?

From the outside looking in , our tracks are getting so all the dirt is the same. Like deep , perfect loam , but they ALL are getting to be that way! We need a variety here as well. Some sand , some hard pack , ect...

It just seems that the GP's now have more " sand tracks " than actual " Dirt tracks " ?? And if it is dirt , they let that shit get hard as a rock.

Where do you GP guys see this going in the next 5yrs or so? And is it good or bad?

Please list all the "new" sandtracks added to the gp schedule in the last 5 years.

I don't think there's too many sand tracks to be honest, there's only really been 2 genuine sand tracks so far this year, then there is Kegums which is sandy with a hard base, similar to Mantova. Other than that I think we have a good variation, but there needs to be a real improvement on track prep and maintainance. I think the number of classes is a big issue and that's something that needs to be dealt with. In my opinion they should only run a maximum of 3 classes on 1 weekend (MXGP, MX2, then EMX125 or 250) and the support class should run only on Saturday, with the track being worked on thoroughly on the Saturday night

5 sand tracks out of 18 doesn't look that much to me.

Valkenswaard
Kegums (not a real sand track)
Lommel
Mantova (late addition to replace Brasil)
Assen

Good reply man. I knew there were quite a few , and it seemed like " more " than what I remember years ago. Probably thinking back further than 5yrs , but it just seemed like a lot. The new Assen track is what posed me to ask the question.

I think there are more than years ago, but there's also more races in total than there was years in years past. I've always been a fan of how the GP tracks were prepared differently, but I have to admit I'm starting to change my mind a bit. I watched Indiana and that track was just epic, and it seems that the riders prefer to race on those kind of tracks. I still feel we need to keep the variation of terrain, but it has to be prepared better

I can't say for the rest of the circuits but I do know that part of the Netherlands pretty well and what they're using to build the track is virtually all they have locally. The whole area is simply all yellow sand below the surface (and many times on the surface too).

They seem to be putting a Lot of boarding down (ala SX builds) - one assumes to protect grass and the tar.

Aitkens mentioned 75cm depth of sand being more than enough....... really, Darryl? I fear they will be down to the boards pretty bloody quickly, but I sure hope I'm wrong.

I think that prick Luongo thinks he may get the sort of massive turn out they get at the Road Races at Assen. What say you locals - is he dreaming, or what? In a country that has a lot (by my standards of having to travel far and wide) of great tracks, this prick Luongo seems to be hoping for the 'golden ticket' of 100,000 plus Assen Moto GP crowds. I don't think that will happen. It's not Russia in the 70s, with Guenady Moiseeve going for the title.

I live about 30 minutes away from the track and I have to say, they are really putting a lot of work into promoting the event. It has been in several regional newspapers for numerous times for example.
They are hoping for at least 20.000 visitors. If less, this event will not take place in the future.

Looking at the webcam I'm not sure if they will make it. The track is one thing but then there are the banners and stuff.
Maybe I'm going to take a look at the track tomorrow to see the progress.

umm don't they know you cannot compact sand? That is gonna be a beach, and the ruts will go right down to the pavement, once it gets churned up, it will make lommel look like hard pack.
8/25/2015 7:15am
They'll be ready you can count on it, builders will work at a very different pace to the pit and stand teams.

This building a temp track lark is always going to get tricky, I really hope they pull off a decent effort and it expect they will, if they don't there will be lots of questions as to what went wrong with it and how to fix it, I am expecting this is a test bed for future plans of temporary efforts.

I don't think they'll get anywhere near 20,000 fans, but we will see. I just hope the track is good

10,000 would be a succes. No matter how much work they put in it, I'm afraid this will turn out to be another POS-track as in Germany 2013, with injuries as result. Well, I'm going in person, so I hope it turns out okay.

Plus, there are (yet again) a lot of sideclasses: EMX125, EMX150, EMX250 and Veterans. I really hope they learn about the past season and decrease the number of classes in a GP-weekend for 2016.
