1985 Suzuki RM125 what to watch out for pros/cons

Edited Date/Time 10/5/2021 4:42am
What's up guys? I've been looking into buying a 1985 Suzuki RM125. He's currently got the bike disassembled (the top end needs to be rebuilt and he never got around to it) but is putting it back together for me so I know everything is there. I'm wanting to basically restore the bike but not a full restoration just repaint the frame and plastics, get it running right, basically bring it back to life. Im wanting a play toy though so i planmed on getting a dg pipe amd silencer re-jet the carb new airfilter etc. Is there anything I should watch out for? And is there anymore cheap upgrades I can do to bring out the power? Heres a pic of it. He has the plastics that aren't on it and everything else just needs to reassemble it. I'm only paying $450 by the way which imo is a steal. Thanks guys.

You may want to cross post this to Old School Moto, or maybe a mod can move it there for ya.

You paid too much for that bike I'm afraid.

Why is that? It's a complete bike its just taken apart at the moment. He is reassembling it for me and delivering it to me. All it needs is a top end I just want to do a few upgrades. I could make my money back parting it out.

Here is my 1985 rm125. Excellent bike and an absolute blast to ride. Rear end tracks amazing with the full floater system. Has okay power in terms of the '85 125's. Hope you're ready to have a heavy clutch hand!

Wow that is a awesome bike. I'd love to get mine looking that good but I'm only 16 and the job I'm working is with my brother in law, $10 an hour but it's side work for people so don't get many hours. May I ask where you bought the rubber fork covers? the bike I'm buying will need them. And did you buy new plastics for it or refinish the old ones? If so how did you do it? Where'd you buy the stickers. Thanks man.

That's nice I'd buy it but I'm on short budget at the moment and after I get this rm125 going and get some money saved up Ima buy a 250 and probably sell this RM125 or fix it up right and fully restore it. Just depends on how much money I'll be making in the future I suppose.

$450 not a bad price , I love the old Suzukis and parts are easy to fine and not to expensive.

Mine is mostly original other than the front brake cover and side number plates so I can't help you too much on the restoration. My dad bought this bike brand new and hasn't been ridden too much over the years.

Those were good bikes, I put a lot of hours on them. A DG pipe, DG type 2 silencer, some Boysen Reeds and a 38 carb makes that a very fast bike. The 38 carb gives it hard hitting top end. The rear suspension is very good, even for today’s standards.

Another nice thing about them, a lot of 84 parts are interchangeable.

If that was a 250, I’d take it off your hands.

Edit: Just noticed the was resurrected from 2015. LOL!
