Lots of threads about RV ! Well that is his choice.
He brought a fantastic style in racing, so agressive that it was often as interesting to watch him as JS7. He won a lot of races and is in my mind so far the fastest MX250 rider and best SX rider of the last few years (not decade since it is from 2006 to 2014..., half half...).
He was over it after over training during his whole career. I think he really tried to win in MXGP, just to make the move was already a huge thing, but his settings were not good at the beginning of the season, his bike was reacting too much. To score some big points, he had to take some risks, it ended up pretty bad, which was a high probability anyway since the leaders and himself are always on the limits. The way he retire, well, @ Glen Helen would have been nice, for the industry, fans, promoter, but his injury was a scary one, I feel he does not want to risk another big one. (You know, like "us" when we go to make the last laps of the day, it ends up quite often on the ground)
What I will remember is not the way he retired or how this season went but the way he won many of his races in MX and SX, the way he saved the US at the MXdN in France in 2011, or the way he made one of the best races of all time, the MXdN in Budds Creek.
Thanks for the show, happy retirement RV2 !
I think most of you see things that are not actually there in most of the posts from those that have that same feeling.
RV IS a champ, he IS one of the fastest ever, he DOES have the rights to do whatever he wants, but that doesn't mean he did it in style. A last, glorious, appearance in Glen Helen would have been the best way to end his career and I still don't see how anybody can not agree with this.
And I said "appearance", not "work your butt out (no pun intended) and win the race", just show up at the gate and ride two laps. Simple as that, but I think it would make a big difference.
But everything went wrong again into this ridiculous America vs Europe, Ama vs Gps and now with this "the Brits" (how about the Fins, the Itas, the Nlds...)...

I mean...if Ryan had to put on a happy face (or as close to one as he ever put on, anyway...) to race his last couple of seasons, what would a bit more have hurt...especially since his doc cleared him to race? He could have gone out with a much higher level of respect from his peers & his fans, whether he won or not. At least he nutted up & gave it a go.
As it is now, RV will be known as a multi-time champion, one of the best riders ever...and a quitter, who didn't give a damn. That's kind of a sad legacy IMO.
He is one of the very few top riders of all time, was planning to retire then got hurt and retired early. the end
Hey Steve G, can you open up a new forum for the Brit GP guys, call it maybe something like BritMX, it sure would help around here, they don't seem to have a place to go, so they crash our party all the time.
Pit Row
AC.... He stayed in his comfort zone and wouldn't even race SX.
Like most everyone else he should just STFU on what's best for RV.
