Buy a used frame and start cutting. It's easy to do.

It would come with three pre oiled air filters, breakaway levers, grease already in the bearings, locktighted bolts and a decent chain.
Tank would have clear plastic strip up the side so you could SEE how much gas you have!

This is the list of things I don't want because they only fix problems this bike would NEVER have!
No e start because you wouldnt need it or the extra weight.
. It wouldnt flame out and stall because they dont.
. It would start first kick because they do.
. It would not need the extra cost, weight or bulk of batteries that die when stored for a few weeks.
No EFI because you wouldnt need it or the extra "stuff" that goes with it.
. It wouldnt "bog" from vapor lock or overheated bowl because they run cool.
No aluminum frame because in my experience they dont handle better.
. The pro racers must agree because they have done nothing but try to get ali to handle like CroMo since...

This bike is easy to make by today's standards and would cost less to manufacture and sell.
This bike would exceed the abilities of all but the greatest racers.
Reliable
Safe
Light weight
Cost effective to maintain
FUN!
Mine does pretty much all that apart from the Honda bit.... the hydro clutch and the fuel tank thing....

Starts first kick every time, stops, turns, handles better and is just as quick as anything modern. It's got more "trick", one off parts than most of the bikes that line up at the Nationals or GPs and it's a dammed site better looking!!

And the best bit? I get to beat guys on brand new 450 4 strokes on a 2 stroke.... thats 35yrs old, with drum brakes, twin-shocks and an air cooled motor!

Well I don't really think this is vintage, at least not to me, but I'd love my old '85 RM 250 with the forks off of my '06 RM 250 and a fully modded Pro Circuit motor and exhaust. The rear suspension we'll just leave alone.

Can I change mine to her?!

WOW.
I dont even remember posting this it is so old...

OK. I would make an exception to the "Not a Honda" thing if I could own this. I was thinking more along the lines of brand new when I said this before. THAT is a classic.

I grabbed a 150SX locally used and it has been the closest thing to my dream bike I could find. Its solid fun. When I take it somewhere, it doesnt get a rest. Everyone steals it and takes it out. Obviously I am not the only one who likes light fun bikes. My 450 was fun, but the weight and hit the outside berm turning handicap got old. The 450 is not in my garage any more but the 150 and 250 smokers are still here!

There might be nothing more fun than beating a line of brand new "F1" technology 450's to the first turn on an air cooled bike...well maybe beating just a few (and thats all it will be) of them to the first turn on a 150. lol. Or just passing a couple on my way around.

That is some sick work, did you draw those yourself? If so, I'd be willing to commission you to draw my bike once I have it set up the way I want.

To those who desire to put an rm250 engine in an rm450 frame: thats like putting a lotus elise engine in a dodge viper.

The steel frame from the last gen rm250 was one of the best handling / sharpest turning packages ever made.. going alloy wrecks that IMO.

RMZ 250 frame, no need for the 450. On an MX track. The Alloy frame is even better again. I'm not sure if it is lighter, but it sure feels it, and it turns just as well, at the very least. AFAIK, the geometry of the bikes is pretty similar.

Out of all the bikes, the Suzuki's are easily the easiest to convert. There's really not a lot to it.

What makes the Suzuki easier than the others if you don't mind me asking?

No air box mods other than fitting an 06 RM125 air box boot which fits perfectly (RMZ 250's use the same filter as the RM's)
No fuel tank mods with the alloy tank other than removing the pump.
Spacer for the rear swing arm. The only difficult mod is the frame cradle and radiators.

125 in this Pic but the same setup works on the 250 as well. All the main mods are in the pic, bottom of the radiators, frame cradle and the 125 air box boot. I'm using a combination of RMZ and RM radiator hoses, mostly RMZ, all but 2.

I don't do my own frames. The bloke I get to do it charges $500.00 less for a Suzuki conversion though. He didn't do the one above.

My swap was '05 to '05. The frame geometries are identical. All the RM stuff fits the Z frame except for the triple tree. I had to use the Z swingarm pivot bolt too as the Z frame is a half inch wider. The Aluminum frame does turn a tad bit slower but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You can't be lazy on the steel frame RM250 like you can on the aluminum framed 250 two stroke.

I'm a huge 2 stroke fan, but i'm a racer at heart. Built my dream CRF250 for 2015 and there's not a lot left untouched... Custom parts and titanium throughout, full Eleven10 mods race motor that rips, full carbon yoshis etc...

Please excuse the crappy pic!

Scott Burnworth's 1980 YZ100, Myerscough's double shock 1980 RA 125 or a 1981 RA 125. I'd love to own and race any of those bikes at vintage races.

I know your all going to call me a herlings fanboy or whatever but although this thing doesn't look amazing, the motor seems to have a different note to the rest and it looks like it handles beautifully ( with herlings riding )

If I was to choose a bike to race this season it would be that
