I have no problem with air forks and this is not about bagging on new technology. I would like to know what broke? Acording to Suzuki he made contact with a rider that caused the failure.

Air forks aren't new technology - the early 80's saw plenty of production bikes using it, for example.

Yes these air forks are new technology. I owned the Yamaha that came with the air canasters and they were just regular forks without the springs.

I'm not sure what your interpretation of 'technology' is, but the idea behind the modern air fork is not particularly new. Sure, there are some intricacies that allow it to be more effective than it was in the 3 decades ago, but it's still not a new concept.

To me, new 'technology' is something that didn't exist before, but now it does (i.e. tubes to semiconductors).

I dunno, that team has a history of fork problems, Stewart has has a few of them. Remember that one where something inside the fork broke on the line for a sx main event and he had to back off the line and missed the race.

No I don't but I remember the time he hit another rider on the first lap and damaged it.

What other function do you think the air serving in these new forks? All the air chambers do is replace coil springs in these "new" forks also... same as the old Yamaha you used to have.

Wasn't that a clutch problem?

They put the wrong type of air in......his mechanic accidentally filled them with Supercross air.

We are not splitting attoms here. Yes air is replacing a the springs but that is ware the similarities end. Old technology was remove spring fill both fork tubes with air. New technology 3 air chambers in one fork and dampening in the other fork is way different.

It's not really related but I was about 4 rows back at supercross and I could hear his forks in practice and the races they were so loud. Idk if I could ride hearing that every jump.

The works forks use NAWWWSSSSS so he was definitely hearing the purge valve on the suspension. Everyone knows that.

Define "new" technology. Sometimes it's just a change / improvement to prior art. Multiple air chambers is a method to get a more "mechanical" spring type action from air. Coil springs (straight rate) have a linear rate, like lbs/inch. 10lb spring rate increases resistance by 10lbsome every inch it is compressed. Air does not behave the same, it's rate is dependent on volume. Multiple chambers create a way to control the rate of resistance, complicated to setup but infinitely changeable. This is exactly what Yamaha was working with in 75 ? Damping in one leg, spring in the other ? Marzocchi forks (KTM) ran that technology in the late 70's early 80's. Good podcast on PulpMX with Ross Media, talks a lot about this. Revisiting "old" designs and coming up with new idea's that solve "old" issues.
