Rattray reportedly going to PC!

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 6:26pm
the website www.motocrossplanet.nl (dutch) reports:

http://www.motocrossplanet.nl/nieuws/id1498-Tyla_Rattray_verlaat_KTM_en…

english translation(my own, so sorry for any language inperfections):

de South African Tyla Rattray has decided not to compete in the World Championship MX1 and try his luck in America. The newly crowned World Champion was going to line up in 2009 on a linkage equipped 450 KTM.

However, after some testsessions,KTM has decided not to be entirely ready to ride with the new linkage system, a decision that Tyla greatly regretted. Tyla's dream has always been to ride in the USA, so after a lot of consideration, they decided to end his contract and leave for the USA where he will ride for the Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team run by Mitch Payton.

Does this mean Pro Circuit is going to field a 450 outdoor team or is Rattray going to continue racing the little bikes?
11/26/2008 10:39am
i dont think he even can start on a 450, doesnt the AMA have some sort of points system. but i think he will be on a 250f, he hasn't really raced on a 450 that much.

i also understood that he would be racing SX, but im not sure...

He can ride either class and since he didn't win a MX1 Championship he can ride 250F's in SX here.

I for one would be excited to see him race here.

That is great news. I had heard rumors of Tyla coming over. He and Searle really impressed me this year watching Media zone. Best racing I have seen in years. A dozen guys battling for the lead and pushing it all the way through the checkers. We need some more players to fill in the gaps over here.

Done deal? Good for the AMA, bad for the GPs. Interesting that you got three top GP guys whith the current situation with AMA (people doing SX only, TV-coverage down etc) and USA in general recession.

Will be an interesting season for sure! I'm happy for you guys.

Good point.

Maybe if enough heavy hitters show up for the Nat's, Bubba and the other "SX mostly" guys will decide to run the real series.

More contenders for the win is always a good thing, right on. This year's 250f outdoors is gonna be stacked, Dungey, Pourcel, Stroupe, Metcalfe, Canard, Izzi, and probably at least 5 other guys I'm forgetting right now. I'm too pumped from just getting my last ride of the year in to think straight.

Tyla's a nice guy, always a pleasure to deal with, and was really fast this year. He was flying when I saw him at Valkenswaard.

He did pace Ryan Villopoto at the MXoN after getting lapped (I think after a crash), but I think Ryan had backed it down a notch or two from full kill at that point.

He'll make a good addition to the PC squad.

Very cool. I think he'll be a big contender.

Remember the last time two guys who went 1-2 in the GPs switched over? 2001, with Langston and Brown. Pastrana and those two battled all summer long.

Weird coincedence that 8 years later we will likely see Searle, Rattray and Dungey line up for those exact same teams with almost the exact same records under their belt.

Langston and Brown respectively finished 1st and 3rd in the 2000 125cc World Championship.( Dobb was 2nd)

That will be good for Tyla MX2 over there will be awesome I wonder if he will race supercross? I'm going to A3 and San Diego but I would he would be racing West - wonder who will get his KTM ride? Maybe KTM will offer big money to Lawernce LOL or maybe Hamblin? Or will Pourcel come back? MX1 is so stacked it doesn't really affect the depth of the series it just adds to the quality in the AMA- 4 great outdoor series next year! and supercross just around the corner roll on 09!!!

thats a bit harsh! Tyla's a class act. If he'd stuck a wheel on him maybe, but just following at a distance is hardly a chickenshit move. If this turns out to be true i wonder how much that particular 2nd moto ride would have encouraged Mitch to try that bit harder to get him as well.

Yes he was almost as fast as Villopoto minus 1 lap and 15 seconds.

Sorry man I know all the Fans at the track thought it was awesome , I didn't

lol, what a way to blow that out of proportion, if youre lapped by the best MX2 rider of the moment, you would try to follow him for a couple of laps?

Rattray is such a professional that he would no threaten him, but just follow him around, think anyone would, otherwise he could've just as easily to the exit into the pits...

i think villopoto lapped rattray on something like the second or third lap so im not too sure if he had backed off by that point, but yeh rattray was like a couple bike lengths away from him all race long

How can the GP's be the world championships when they don't even come to North America? Last time I checked. North America was part of the world.

check the calander for 09 .....

As for rattary and RV I would imgaine hanging with RV in the 2nd moto went a long way to getting this PC ride with mitch... not such a bad move after all? looked like tyla could have passed him if he had wanted too but he sat bak enough not to mess with ryan.

Plus Tyla was still riding for his country and doing he's own race he was catching up riders and points for his team as he went along. Kept charging all the way and made sure he didin't mess up with front runners race which is typical Tyla! Class act!

Sad to see him go.

Jay no one is questioning you team. They as usual ruled again and I think we all know that. What many of us saw was that Tyla managed to run RVs pace, not saying Tyla was/is faster just, that he managed to run his pace.

Maybe a bit more humble/open approach towards the GP riders wouldn't kill you?

Just saying.

There are many other places that it doesn't travel to either, but it's still a world championship. Why is the US/Canadian baseball series called the World Series?? They used to hold a GP every year in the US but Americans were more concerned their own National championship, which is fair enough - but as Mcread says, there will actually be a round in the US this year. I expect to see a few AMA riders lining up too which will be brilliant!

This has nothing to do with being humble towards GP riders, I respect all of them and Tyla is a baddass.

I'm just saying him trying to race with Villopoto after being lapped was lame.

Jay,

I was not there but from what I saw of it he was not racing RV.

It's just like jo2910 said, Ratters was racing for his country and at the MXdN every point counts and can make a big difference. Following RV around the track can be a big advantage then but stayed away from RV and was passing riders and trying a good result for South Africa.

I'm sure Tyla tried even harder since he was right behind RV to see if he could match that pace, but he did nothing wrong there.

Maybe my view of you as a bit negative towards the GP-skills don't hold any water, sorry for that, but since you only said it was lame without any more info I assumed it was a reflection of that.

Feel free to elaborate what you mean.

My standpoint was that many felt this was the perfect benchmark to see the MX2 rider compete the lites rider, but when Tyla failed by falling, this was as good as it gets. I'm sure RV felt something, and I'm sure Tyla also felt this was important for the sake of the sport.

Disagree?

My standpoint is that I want the series to be equal, and I think that's important that people feel that. I see no point in trying convince anything else. Tyla running after RV made an effort in that direction. My opinion is that domination, and those who needs that are destructive.

Lame though is that Tyla says "I mean" every fifth word. Smile

Hey isn't it awesome a seasoned Pro with a World title is allowed to come race a regional Supercross Series against the Kids ?

For you guy's that think I'm baggin on Tyla , I'm not I just didn't like him jumping in behind Villopoto and had the shoe been on the other foot we would have never heard the end of it.
