Some guys, in some sand pit or quarry, can be fast as heck when just out there messing with his friends.
Take them to the races and they just don't have it.
Some guys, IMO a level up, can run and actually win every now and then.
And then there's the guys that can do it for a season, a series, which again, is yet another level.

BTW, I’m neutral about Dungey for the same reason I was neutral about Reed 6-8 years ago. Both are/were faster than 98% of the riders at the top level. But for most of their careers there was at least one other guy that had them covered. Reed just didn’t have the cards fall in his favor as often.
Pit Row
Last year Dungey had 16 top-twos, and he, Canard, Tomac and Stewart each had multiple moto wins (in a row, too).
In 2010, Short and Reed were the two fiercest guys out there, each scoring 5 top-twos---but no one except Dungey won more than a single moto all year.
You're a talented 450 rookie with championship hopes. Which group would you rather face?
You don't win championships on the ground.
Though I still don't think this title is over, Roczen is not that far back.
Ricky Carmichael 161
James Stewart 116
Jeremy McGrath 102
Ryan Villopoto 83
Bob Hannah 64
Ricky Johnson 61
Chad Reed 61
Ryan Dungey 61
Jeff Ward 57
Kevin Windham 46
Out of those 46 I have no clue how many Dungey missed.
Dungey is still going strong though.
