@DavidVuillemin nope because we trained on ruff tracks and conditions

I hope the 250 guys are watching Ken and Eli right now and hope they're taking notes on how to ride ruts...

You guys are funny with your DV comments. DV is the guy that ran down and passed McGrath in SX plus has years of experience. How many career SX and National starts do you guys
have....only count the rough track starts please.

Seriously forgive me if I put more stock in what DV is saying than what fellow Vital MXers are saying.

Rock, it's not that I don't give DV's comments the weight they deserve. I think that some of his twitter comments are too much for my taste, as a fan. Just strikes me as an ex pro that has an opinion/answer for everything and comes off as a dick sometimes. Not a big deal, I still follow him!

If they are doing this because of MXdN and GP reasons they have missed the point. It's kind of boring to watch, as they tip toe around the track choosing which rut has the least amount of holes, hooks and breaking bumps in it.

Not all GP tracks are bomb holed out with breaking bumps the size of small children and ruts deeper than a swingarm.

When they go to Ernee this year it will not look like Hangtown or Thunder Valley have looked. Hangtown and Thunder Valley should have looked like Matterly, Villars or Talavera if they are trying to replicate conditions based on soil type.

I sorta noticed that too. I can't quite put my finger on it, the tracks are just different, evendors when they get rought and rutted. I definitely like the technical GP style as opposed to the flat out AMA tracks. To be fair, all three rounds have had a good amount of rain in the days leading up to Satrday, right?

Someone sees what I've been talking about. Lay off the deep tilling a little. The racing has been bullshit and WAY more dangerous !!!!!

I think so. Thunder Valley for sure. With all the saturation of water, the dirt under the top soil was not dry enough and it just kept digging down. The same thing happened at Hangtown, it was like they never hit "hard" earth in the ruts.

Also, because they practice so early in the morning it seems to rut up a lot and by the time the moto's start it's just 10 ruts going across every straight and corner. GP tracks don't develop like that. It's a slow formation over many more laps on a harder surface to begin with, less tilling.

I'll be curious to see how these next few rounds shape up if there is no rain leading up to the race. Muddy Creek and High Point have a hard base also.

Agree 100%. I think the tracks have been rough for years and allot was being made of nothing saying they were graded and "smooth." The GP tracks are just a different kind of rough, IMO. They arent ripped deep so they have a harder base and the braking bumps develop differently. Both series have rough tracks with the one big exception being we don't have any proper sand tracks. I had to say it Euro style, "proper" LoL! Even Southwick was a joke compared to the Euro sand tracks. I know from riding Southwick personally from back in '92 to the current version. Back in '92 though, that version of Southwick was a beast! Huge 3-4' deep rolling whoops covered the track, it was sick. All the racing over the years really blew the sand off sand off and gave the track a harder base. It got rough, real rough, but not like old school Southwick

Yeah, the bumps at Washougal last year were knee-high or higher by midday... I walked across the track and was blown away by the sheer scale of the things.

Can't really tell if they're actually leaving the tracks rougher this year, though.

I guess I'm the minority but personally not a fan of super deep ruts that are hard as rock. I don't think very tough track conditions make for better racing either.

Track conditions at Hangtown, Glen Helen, Thunder Valley seem to be perfect imo. Just wondering if the tracks really haven't been so much smoother before? it is hard to judge from the couch but I recall deep ruts and rough sections ever since I've seen my first national on tv. If so, why the change? Not that I wouldn't like rougher tracks but it is hard to believe the rethink is based on the supposition that the GP tracks are rougher and to prepare the riders for an MXON. Aren't there more differences regarding the tracks than the roughness?

There are certain tracks that are always rough. This year with the rain before the races the first three tracks just got a little more precarious. I think it's been more of a mother nature thing than by design.

I think Kangols hit he nail on the head. US tracks are rough...GP tracks are rough. The're just a different kind of rough.

I expect Muddy Creek to get rough this weekend as well.

From what I remember, Muddy Creek was the roughest track on the circuit last year, and maybe was the roughest track in the past couple years. It was brutal. Can't wait for it this weekend!

I'm also really interested as to how the Indiana National will play out with more favorable conditions than last year.

As much as I enjoy the test of a rough track (for the pros, not me obviously Tongue ) I'm not so naive that I can't see how it's quite a bit more dangerous now than say 15-20 years ago. The bikes are moving so much faster, things happen in a hurry.

Here's the catch... if you practice on beat to shit tracks, you probably increase the odds of crashing and getting hurt if you are trying to push the envelope like these guys are. Seems like it might be a "damned if you do damned if you don't" situation.

He's talking about the level of danger genius. Yes even on a groomed track racing is dangerous but that gets multiplied on a sketchy track. You may like danger but I'm sure the pros would rather have a safe track when they are going way faster than you could ever dream of.
