I would say that the rougher and more challenging the track the more the riders get spread out. Hangtown and Glen Helen were extremely challenging tracks so the field was more spread out. I also watched the British GP and the racing was closer but the track was less challenging than other GP tracks. So your opinion is valid but it may partially be due to track difficulty. Also, in tha AMA series there are 40 riders in a class but only 15-20 factory rides so the last 20 riders are considerably slower than the top 20. The gp series has 20 or so riders so all are relatively quick and have factory support. It all ends up fairly equal

It will be interesting to see when the GP goes to Glen Helen whether the gaps are stretched out a bit more or if they stay the same. I do rate the GP series slightly higher at the moment, the racing has been absolutely incredible all season, and all the guys are pushing each other to a new level. It's really awesome to watch
Indeed, the GP racing has been pretty awesome, the tracks are rougher, racing is closer, maybe because they're not so wide open,Glen Helen was great but Hangtown was pretty strung out

The OP is biased towards the AMA though,we only have RV (and Osbourne?) as a comparison, maybe it's because he got beaten and by more than just AC222,,The MXdN is a tricky comparison and favours having 3 decent riders, something France have now,Belgium have had but generally the teams outside the USA suffer from

The format means you never get all the best riders racing in the same races, individual results often go unnoticed, for example many US fans might not have even heard of Boeverts, who caught, passed and gapped Bradshaw in a US victory or Tanel Leok who put getting on for 1 minute on Roczen in a German victory

Making the transition is definately tough,Pourcel did it with relative ease, like JMB,but it's rare,Roczen was just a kid and his mum in a wide new world and although upfront,he took a bit longer, but made it to 450 champ, but others have struggled, many hampered by injury, often by SX

Enough of the crap though, these guys are often underestimated in their own series, many of todays front runners would've probably been beaten by a fair share if they were at Glen Helen yesterday

The vast majority of races and riders on the GP circuit are now and have always been European, which is why so many people see them more as European championships. Look at your top 20 in points.

But believe me, I understand why some GP fans grow red faced and scream "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!" any time it is suggested that there might be better riders or a better series.

In fact many understand all too well.

Jesus...boith sides of the pond drone on and on about results. Here are the facts:

It takes a couple years when you switch series to reach your potential...we knew Kenny and Marvin were not 4th and 5th place guys but that's what they got coming over here after world championships. Three -four years later they have adjusted and are now where they belong.

Zach Osborne wen't over to the Gp's not having any options over here and within a few years was challenging for wins and a top rider. He comes back to the AMA series and has struggled.

Pourcel has been fast in both series because he has spent years adapting to both series.

RV has shown good speed and won or been within 4-10 seconds of winning despite some settup issues. Does anyone really believe he wouldn't challenge for a championship after a few years to adjust?

De Salle has come over and been a top 5 guy in the few AMA races but was behind RV by quite a bit.

Covington is doing better his second year in and will continue to progress.....it takes time people

The MXDN also shows this to be true....when has the USA lost this race on a AMA track? That's right ...never. So every year we go over to Europe a moth after our series is over and have to race against the 30-35 best of the Gp series with just three of our riders on their circuit and if we don't win some dumb asses assume the riders aren't as good. WTF? When have you won on our soil?

The bottom line is that both series kick ass and require an adjustment period of not just a random race or two but a few years to reach your potential speed in the series. History... attiutudes and ego's say so. A rider cannot be judged in one race or one year....it takes a few years to adapt for their speed to show up. Right?
Fuck off , more bullshit excuses from another tosser that just cannot accept that the motocross world has had a power shift over the past year...
Fuck off ,

more bullshit excuses from another tosser that just cannot accept that the motocross world has had a power shift over the past year or so towards the euro riders .

I am at the risk of sounding like a stuck record , but for fucks sake , just take a look at your post ,

RV does well despite set up issues , but you STILL cannot give De salle the same acknowledgement for his performance in some one off national rides .

Osborne , was challenging for the wins on a regular basis , really ???

I personally think the MXDN results are more of an indicator , all the bullshit we hear now about why the US have not won , is nothing different to what the likes of Bailey , Johnson , O,mara faced in years gone by , and it did not stop them from doing the business did it ??

You talk about facts , well , just look at the results , they don't lie , and are the facts !!

So you call a guy out on his bias and raise him your bias? The basal point of what he's saying (taking away some of the not-so subtle unnecessary stabs at GP riders) is very logical: It takes time to adapt to either series because they are very different. Given how different the tracks are from either series these days, this has never been more true.

For the life of me I can't understand how this is fucking rocket science for some people; given the small sample size of riders crossing the pond we have for comparison every year. Neither side has the faster riders, both series are equal.

Apologies for the language , but it really gets my goat that over the past "god knows how many years" , us euros have always given the US riders the credit they deserve for being the better riders in general , but now the boot is on the other foot , all we hear is excuses as to why the current crop of US riders are not getting it done !

These things come in cycles like most things and it won,t be long before we get our arse kicked again , but for now , lets just give credit were its due !
Your responses aren't going to garner the respect you desire for your "world" championship.

And that says what about the quality of competition and the overall "rating" of the series? I'll give you the answer nothing. The fact that the series goes to different countries means next to nothing in determining which series is the best. I'd say the fact that Americans have never chosen to go there, except for one rider in the twilight of their career, while almost every champion from MXGP has left should probably tell you which series has been the best over the years.

Just think if Roczen, Musquin, Pourcel, Rattray, etc. had all stayed. Then you could have fought for the "best" series name, but they all decided for a reason.

I've been watching AMA series since I was a kid I always thought AMA riders are the best in the world and they were for a long time until recent years.

This year I tuned in MXGP and it's pretty evident that the field of Gp as a hole have higher level riders, the top 10 riders of both classes are deeper than AMA.

The only rider who could probably take out the GPs is probably Tomac he might be the best in the world at the moment.

I don't think there's much if any difference between the quality of the riders at the front of each series. What I will say though is that the GP's just seem to produce such good racing. All 4 motos today were unreal, as were the 2 qualifying races. For some reason in America the field seems to get really spread out, I don't know whether it's because of the length of the lap, or the way that the tracks are prepared, but it's just not as good racing in my book.

Exactly, anyone who has raced know's this. The less challenging tracks let the slower guys keep up with the faster guys. I remember I use to be able to keep up with a fast a rider at our local track and he use to get so pissed...Lol. When It's really rough and technical, the cream rises to the top. Yesterday's GP was a prime example of my local track, except on a larger scale of course.

I dig both series. I think the AMA nationals tend to be a little more exciting. Because we have a crap load of fast American's mixed in with a bunch of really fast , ex-GP world champs. Those champs over the years have been from all over the planet. In fact , we have more world champions racing in our series than the GP's in case anyone wants to know.

I'll still watch the GP's because I dig watching them anyways , and they are some great racing for sure. But the nationals just seem a little more exciting to me. On another positive note about the GP's , for some reason I've actually been able to stand Mailn's commentating this season. I think he's doing a great job this year , which I didn't think he did so stellar in years past. Kinda warming up to the guy though.

Tracks : I think both series have awesome tracks , and both series have shitty tracks. Very fast and talented dudes on both sides of the pond too.

What needs to happen is some collaboration between MX Sports and MXGP's schedule US rounds to invite the best riders in the world more times to race together. Have the US nationals take an off weekend and instead a US MXGP is hosted, then the weekend after it's a national. Being at the same track, or at least general region would be ideal (east/west coast). I'm thinking the top stars would still back out of the MXGP because most seem to not be up for the challenge with no money to win, but having the national the next weekend is very inviting to the GP riders to stay and race. This could give us fans a possible three times the best riders in the world could actually race each other (including MXDN).

A rising tide raises all ships... would love to hear DC's thoughts on this.

What is the point? The statement was that only Europe was representated in the top 20 in MxGP, but alone in top 10, there are riders from every continent in the world. Which contries are missing in modern GP Racing?

Tomac probably won't leave the Nationals circuit because the money is better as a whole here in the US (which is also the reason so many GP world champs come here, but most don't know that).

Morning Pierre ,

Asshole eh ! , well that maybe true , thanks for pointing that out to me , I do try !

I would fuck off as you ask , but unfortunately I am not wrong at all , unlike you I have formed my opinion on facts and results , which makes my logic pretty sound if you ask me , where as you just cherry pick a few points to try and justify what you think is going on .

You are trying to say , that the reason the US riders are getting beat now is because they are not familiar with the tracks the GP,s or MXDN are run at ?

well that has never been an issue in the past , so why is it suddenly so important ?

From 81 to 11 the US won the nations 22 times in those 30 years , but the event was only held on US soil 3 times , the US riders at those events didn,t seem to have a problem racing in Europe on unfamiliar tracks in the other 19 years did they ?

You also claim it takes time to adjust , to try and explain the relatively poor results RV had in this years GP,s , and also Alessi,s poor showing yesterday , but if you again take a look back at previous years results , you will see that JMB came over to the US for a few early season races in 89 before the GP,s and guess what ? He went out and won his very first moto , beating Stanton , Ward etc .

In Roczens first year in the US , he also placed 2nd in his first moto , beating Barcia and Tomac .

In 2010 , Desalle came to the US for a one off ride and went 2 2 , beating Bubba .

So as you can see , it doesn,t have to take a lot of time to adjust , if your good enough , you will get the results .

Lol your right most don't know that, Americans think they come here because it's "better" no it's because there's more money.

For example Kenny wouldn't have his own Fox goggles.

America is the land of consumerism, marketing and advertising those things are more possible to achieve in America.

And even if the reason for staying is just because he wants to stay home...not a big deal. Thing is just he is not automatically the best in the world

Right?
Agreed, you forgot to add mx is the less important of the two series run in america.
whereas mx is all the euros train for year round.
says a fair bit doesn't it.

For example Kenny wouldn't have his own Fox goggles.

America is the land of consumerism, marketing and advertising those things are more possible to achieve in America.
And why is it bigger? More people follow it.
the casual mx fan outside of europe wouldn't know the name of 5 mxgp riders.

Fuck off ,

more bullshit excuses from another tosser that just cannot accept that the motocross world has had a power shift over the past year or so towards the euro riders .

Ha asshole, my point was that both series are fast and that it takes time( as in a few years) to really make a run for the opposite series championship.......how was that so wrong? Perhaps then you can remind me how having the MXDN over at the GP tracks virtually every year does not inherently favor the GP riders? And If you disagree with that explain how the AMA riders always win on home soil? Quite making excuses ..."why can't your superior riders do the business on AMA soil? Your logic is bullshit! The facts are that it takes time to adjust to the opposite series (as Kroc, MM, and RV) have shown....and the fact is you guys always get beat when the MXDN is here but were supposed to "do the business there" . So you fuck off because your wrong and an asshole.
RV getting smoked in the prime of his career maybe hard to take forl so many people, shouting about FMOTP and winning by 30 seconds like he was in the AMA,they're virtually throwing him under the bus, like they did Dungey after the last few years MXdN results

The GP guys are much faster than so many gave credit to,despite MXdN peformances RV had near 5 months prep, said he wouldn't have a problem with the tracks as he'd ridden some before and was real happy with the bike,I thinkhe underestimated the task

Barcia,J Mart,Alessi etc all spoke about how rough the tracks are too

Not many people in Australia would know top 5 of AMA or mxgp.
F1 OR MOTO GP THOUSANDS more know about those two.
Sport of mx needs to grow world wide , having to split championships does not help the mxgp or AMA.

Just like the casual mx fan here doesn't even know Villopoto. Everytime something about MX is on tv/radio (most of the time these days it's Joel Roelants) and they talk about the GP's and 'the american' they have to explain what he achieved in the US. People mostly know Cairoli and Herlings and maybe a top rider of their country, IF they even know a rider. American nationals/SX are allot less known outside the US then you'd think.
