Gas roughly weighs 8lbs per gallon. 2 gallon tank = 16lbs
250f= 236lbs
350f= 239.5lbs
450f= 240.7lbs

They claim their weight is with all fluids, no fuel. According to the specs on the Vital homepage the weights for the US versions are:

150- 196.7 lbs
250f- 220.2 lbs
350f- 223.5 lbs
450f- 224.7 lbs

The yz250f (and crf250) is 222 lbs with no fuel according to dirt rider.

The Euro versions should be about 3-4 lbs lighter each bike due to the air forks.

the air fork would have made the 350 and possibly the 450 illegal to race per the weight restrictions..... that is insane!..... add a slip on silencer to the 450 and it would for sure be under the weight limit..... all without even adding any titanium or carbon fiber. guess the AMA is going to have to rethink the weight limits?
The antique weight restricts only apply to the 250 or so pro ama racers? Let them add solid axles to bring the weight up. The rest of us could use all the help we can get. KTM is leading the way.

Agreed 1000%

I hate the weight restriction rules. Why the need to slow down technology.

But the truth is, and Im sure someone already said it, was going to say it, or is thinking it: The easiest & cheapest & healthiest & most reliable way for any of us to make our bike lighter is to lighten up the person riding it! Think about that for a second... we're all excited about the KTM's losing a few lbs when most of us here could probably benefit from losing 20+ lbs of our own weight.

10 lbs lighter than 250 2 strokes?? The 16' ktm 250 2 stroke weighs 95.9 kg (211.4 lbs) without fuel, and it hasn't been touched for the 16' models. That 210 lb 450 would only be 1 pound lighter than the old 2 stroke, but if ktm came out with the all new 250 2 stroke just like the 125/150, i'd bet it would have loss 6.3 lbs or higher just like the 125/150, and this is without the air fork. The new air fork is 4 lbs lighter i believe, so we're looking at maybe around 10 lbs lighter (201 lbs) if ktm had made a new 250 2 stroke with air forks, that means the 2 stroke would be nearly 20 pounds lighter than the new 450 with air forks. These new 4 strokes are light, but not 2 stroke light Tongue . Ktm have made a new 250 2 stroke, but not sure why they're not releasing it.
easy there buddy..... i ride a '15 300xc..... didn't mean to get ya ruffled up. just saying as of right now. for some reason i thought the 250 sx was in the 217-218lb range.... at least thats what the mags always weigh it at. thought it was in the 212 range pre-linkage.

the fact that the 4 strokes are coming close to the weight of the 2 strokes is mind boggling. i can't wait to see what happens when the 250/300s get some love from the engineers in austria.

Sorry if i sounded angry/aggressive. Not ruffled up at all, thought you were just making up shit lol. Never heard of 217-218 lbs, maybe the yz250? From 12' to 16' the ktm has been 211-212 lbs... Well, that's what ktm says, unless the mag or ktm is lying.

I don't know about 4 strokes coming close in weight of a 2 stroke. The new 250f is still heavier by 9 lbs than the "old" ktm 250 2 strokes, which is pretty much the same bike since 2012. They're definitely closing the gap i guess.

This is good what ktm is doing though, puts much needed pressure on other manufactures. The 450s have been getting heavier instead of lighter over the years. Example, 2010 crf450r is 234 lbs with all fluids and a full tank. Today, the 15' Honda 450 is 243 lbs with all fluids and a full tank, nearly 10 lbs increased, ridiculous...Pinch Not sure what Honda was thinking... Same can be said for other manufactures. Hopefully what ktm is doing can wake up the Honda, Kawa, suzuki, etc....

Here's a first impressions 2 stroke video i think. Not sure what he's saying though, i believe it's in German. Can anyone translate the important bits? What he said about the handling? Suspension? Engine? etc...

he mainly talks about the 125. Basically, he says that it has a lot more power than previous models, and due to mass centralisation it handles really well.

pretty interesting detail: the US 450 has a 5 speed gearbox, while the EU Model has just 4 gears

Thank you Smile . That's good to hear. From the video, It looks like he didn't have to ride the piss out of the 125/150 to get around the track quickly, he looked really smooth for being a 125/150.

EU gets the new air forks as well. Curious to see how they perform vs the 4CS forks, did he say anything about the new air forks?

Interesting.... I believe Stewart's 450 had 4 gears back in his kawi days, never knew the reason though.

Some teams been running 4 gears and even with 3. Gearboxes are made by some factories (one in UK) just for race teams and cost more than Factory suspension.. Personally i could live without 1st and 5th anyway with lighter bike.
