Ok well after hearing you guys talk about the GAERNE SG-10 BOOTS, I’ve decided to pull the trigger. Only problem is I’m having a hard time finding a local shop that has them in stock in my size to try. I also need them really soon for my upcoming B to V ride.
I’m also concerned about the hinge point. I had the first SIDI’s that had the hinge and they were very painful to wear. I have birdlegs and bony ankles and the hinge would be right where my ankle bone was. I could barely freaken walk in them so I sold them. I’ve since tried the Sidi Xfires and they are an excellent boot. Walking around the showroom I could slightly feel the pivot point and was worried it would get worse in time.

1) Any of you guys have both the original and new SIDI’s, are they the same except for refinements? I can get these for a good price.

2) How are the GAERNE boots sized? I wear a size 9 street shoe but have a 10 in the Fox Forma boots.

3) What’s a good price? Best I could find was $329.

4) Anyone try the OXTAR boots, they are blowing them out for $139!

Thanks

I have the white and carbon fiber looking ones from a few years ago. Best boots ever IMO. Got them for 229 then.

Should have bought a few extras.

Always been a big fan of Gaerne boots since 1982. I've worn everything. Formas are OK, Alpinestars too but wear out.

I'll stick with Gaerne. Someone told me EIther Fly or Oxtar has a boot thats a Tech 8 replica for cheap.

BTW, My Gaerne are the same size as my normal shoe. I have a pretty normal fitting foot though.

Well, G-man, based on what you wrote, I may have screwed up by recommending the SG-10 to my racing buddy that has "multiple" pins in one of his ankles. He just got his and hasn't worn them.

Luckily they are my size, so if they bother his ankle, i bet I have a bargain in my futureCheerful

The sizing for my SG-10's were spot on. I wear 10 1/2, bought 11's, Could have probably gotten away with 10's.

3) What’s a good price? Best I could find was $329.

I don't know. I think I paid $290 a couple years ago from rocky mountain.

I went from tech 8's to SG10's. They are a lot more comfortable. I've never noticed the hinge and I have chicken legs and boney ankles. They didn't feel as protective as my tech 8's at first, but I've never had a problem.

The bottoms wear much better the my Astars. These boots have lasted atleast twice as long.

I'll most likely buy another pair if I can find a good deal.

The Oxtars (now TCX) are EXCELLENT boots - really. I've had 2 pairs and they last ridiculously long. Be sure to get the TCX Pro.

The Sidi Crossfire is the best boot on the market. I have owned them all and nothing is even close to this boot.

I like my Oxtars but I wouldn't say they last ridiculously long. Two seasons was what I got out of them. Buckles fall out line snot out of kids nose. Get extras. I got them for $200. Way worth that. At $350 there are better boots.

SIDI looks like my next boot. That or $149 AXO boots on sale. I gotta try a pair on.

I would rather buy a new pair annually for $100 then one set for three years at $500

The SG-10 should not be too bad on your ankle. I have bony and broken feet and they did not rub at all.
I have a used set of SG-10 for sale in size 10. The were used this last season and that is it. Nothing broke, just used. They are the black and white color. $100.00 plus shipping if you want them.

Those Sidi Crossfire SRS boots look really nice. What are those like? I've been running A-Star tech 8's for years, and would like to explore my options. I tried the Tech 10's and didn't like them.

I love my SG-10's. However, try them on before purchasing. I wear a size 10.5 shoe and my size 10 boots are too big. I ended up putting my custom foot beds from my snowboard boots into my motocross boots to make them fit right. Next pair I will prolly go with size 9. I have skinny legs and ankles and i have no problem at all with the Gaerne boots. The top of the boot fits way better on my knee braces than previous boots I've owned . As stated before the soles last way longer than alpinestars.

I tried the sidi's on recently and to be honest they feel too comfortable. The guys at the local shop all run them. They say don't mistake the comfort for lack of protection. Very cool that every part of the boot is replaceable but with the price tag and the overall feel I choose the Gaerne's

No man, I just googled "2007 SG-10 sale" I found a dealer that had a size 9 in blue for $199.. I'll see if I can find it.

There's quite a few good deals on ebay too.

2008 and up SG-10's are about $100 more.

I wore SIDI for five years before I switched to the SG 10.

The SIDI is really hard to break in, but when they do they are great - They suck to buckle, however.

Two rides into the SG 10's were enough to convince me to never go back to the SIDI. I have a few pairs now that I rotate through.

I never had to break in my SIDI boots . Fit like a glove off the shelf. No problem to buckle but the gaiter is kinda wierd to get used to This is a good reason for you to go and try some on and not get any advise here . Are Gaerne's waterproof ? The SIDI is .

I wear Gaerne SG10's and they are great! Best boots I've had by far. They did take a little breaking in, but nothing too bad. Very comfy, and very durable. The sizing is pretty close to true, I ordered my set without ever having trying a pair on, I just ordered based on the size I wore in Fox. Great boots, I would recommend them to anybody.

Thanks crowe for the hookup. Should get them next week. Hopefully I will be able to ride with them before B to V. Nothing worse then being in 6th gear on the 520, 75mph + and ACCIDENTLY hit the rear brake!!!!!!Woohoo

I switched from SG-10s to the OxtarTCX pros because of the pivot. My Oxtars are much better for me because of fit.

You're killin me FCR!!!!
I tried on some OxtarTCX pros tonight at Cycle Gear. They felt pretty good, but I didn't like that bulge on the side. Time will tell if the SG 10's don't work they will be for sale soon.

Tiki - Interesting, but for me, that certainly was NOT the case. I don't typically wear boots more than 2 seasons (riding a lot), but I've got 3 seasons out of each pair. I'd say thats ridiculously long - I don't think boots should worn much longer than that because of safety issues (the whole reason we wear them).

All personal preference, but I'll buy another pair of TCXs without a doubt.

G-man, it wasn't that the pivot dinged my ankle, the pivot made it feel like I couldn't get my feet closer to the frame. It interfered with the frame. SG10s are good boots but they weren't for me.

Whew thanks for clearing that up FCR....Woohoo

I just hope they fit, I hate buying expensive equipment w/o trying them on first. From this thread alone the fit size's were all over the map! lol

You cant go wrong with the SG-10... My favorite boot right now. I remember that when I first switched they took a couple rides to get used to feeling the brake!! There was no breakin but a little dead feeling compared to my worn out Tech 8.

I have 2 full seasons on my white/carbon SG-10 and they still look new!

Crossfire TAs hard to break in & buckle? Are you joking?

My new Crossfire TAs are the easiest to buckle boots Ive put on since the ole leather strap Hallmanns I used in the 70s. And break in? Wassat? Take 'em out the box and go race.

The first time I rode in my SG10's was on a SX track, and I had problems with stepping on the rear brake in between jumps. Shocked After I got used to them I loved them though.

Any boot needs a little time to get used to.

Sidi Crossfires might be good, but not for the money.

That said, my Carbon White SG-10s are mint. Love mine.

I was in Fox Forma Pros or whatever before that. No complaints but went back to Gaerne for the Price I got them at(see above) and I've never been disappointed with them as a brand since 1982. And thats a LONG time ago.

250-300 is my breaker on boots. Not becasue of cost, I just think after that, you're wasting money.

I might try some Oxtars next time just for a 2nd set since Im gonna need a pair for Supermoto next spring.

Me too. I just adjusted my brake lever.
