How sketchy is this craigslist deal

My favorite story: guy had bike stolen out of the back of his truck while at Pizza Hut. Saw the same bike for sale in the paper, called the ad and determined it was in the hood. Went to see the bike, determined it was his by checking the VIN. Took it for a test ride and loaded it in his van that was parked a few blocks away! Hows that for justice!

I'd bring two bikes, your bike filled to the top with gas and the bike for sale with enough gas to run for a minute or two. Bring a gun and when he says he's wanting to ride it unload your bike n have a friend unload the other. If he takes off just follow him at a little distance till the bike runs out of gas.

This is genius, although I wouldn't try it unless I had some way to know 110% the dude is unarmed and has no lookouts. It's pretty plain to see this guy is getting set up to be robbed and possibly much worse. Anybody that sells bikes on CL knows that (usually) serious buyers are going to be asking for more info than if it "runs good". To the OP, just wait it out for a real buyer dude. Don't kid yourself about this buyer, it's obvious what's going to happen.
until they shoot everyone involved and steal 2 bikes now lol

If he has $5k cash for a bike, he should also have a vehicle. If it smells like BS, it most likely is BS.
Your life is too valuable to risk it for a sale.

Saw this post on a Facebook page, Michigan MX motorcycles for sale, and it reminded me of this post. Sounds pretty similar.

"SELLERS BEWARE:
I posted my RMZ 450 for sale on craigslist and fb. A guy by the name of 'Greg Smith' contacted me from phone number 215-970-7802, said he lived in Cleveland and offered full asking price for my bike and he would pay $300 for me to deliver since he didn't have a truck and was working 7 days a week on nights.
Talked to this fella via txt and over the phone numerous times, he knew his stuff about bikes and asked all the right questions, so I assumed he was the real thing. So today I drove 5 hours to Cleveland to deliver the bike.
I get to the address he gave me and there he is, right on time. He immediately asks to take a test ride on the bike, I explained to him multiple times that I don't ever let anyone go for a test ride (let alone in the slums of Cleveland) without some sort of collateral or the $$.
He BEGGED me repeatedly, shook my hand and looked me dead in the eye and promised he wouldn't take off on the bike, he even told me that his grandmother was in the house watching to make sure I wasn't some sort of axe murderer.
After an hour of arguing I told him to put up or shut up and I was going to leave if he didn't come up with the money. He then proceeded to call me every name in the book, including a racist, darted into the alley and was gone.
While I was there his phone rang repeatedly and he just kept saying, 'yea he's here I'll see you in a minute.'
After he left I rang the doorbell and Greg's 'grandma' answered. She proceeded to tell me that she didn't even have kids or grandkids, know who that gentleman was, and that he is in fact a liar.
So I wasted 10 hours of my day and two tanks of gas, but hey, at least I still have a bike"

If he doesn't have a truck or have any friends that will loan him a truck ,
I would trust him as far as his circle of friends.

I have my bike on Craigslist. I get a text yesterday that says " is it still available", I say yes, he says "I'm willing to buy it" which I thought was odd but ok. He says "if I pay for delivery can you drive it here since I don't have a truck". I say yes. So he's in east Cleveland, I'm in Detroit area, which is a 2.5 hour
drive. He then says as long as it runs and rides everything is good I just want to buy it should be like a new bike (it's a 2013).

So I call him later and we talk about when I'm coming and I tell him I'm not coming unless he buys it for sure and he says he has 5000 cash. Now not to be racist, but I found out he is black, and his address is in the inner city somewhat. I told my dad about this and he said he thinks it's someone trying to set me up for a mugging by appointment or something like that. If I meet him in a public place it might be ok but what do you all think. Any suggestions?
Are you really that stupid?

Maybe this connection has already been made, but here is an eerily similar story:

I don't sell any of my stuff at my home anymore. I don't want strangers checking out my possessions and coming back to steal them. Only meet at the local PD.

I've sold plenty of bikes/parts on Craigslist and local MX forums. I never deliver anything, they want it they can come get it. I have them meet me at the shopping center up the street from my house with all the cameras. I tell them to call me when they get there and drive out there. Works nice and easy no wasted time waiting for somebody and always bring a friend.

I'm also Canadian and we do things a little different up here as far as our incarceration goes. More focus on rehab and we seem to have good results, though I definitely think the kid diddlers and rapists should be put away for life.
Based on this comment I'm going to guess your a young idealist with close to zero knowledge of the Canadian penal system.
