In a foreign country, against the best riders from each of those other Countries from all over the World.
Oh, and prior to those races, he was considered a fast (but prone to crashing) rider, but by no means was considered a "dominant" rider in the US (or anywhere).
Probably the most stressful situation for a rider to face, the pride of your Country and being strong for your team.
He dominated, 4 times in a row.

Are you going to name a few that tops it?
I'll add two by Lechien. 1983 San Diego SX and 1988 MXdN only because both were unexpected. That's the Dogger for you.
1. Stefan Everts winning 3 GP's in 1 day in Ernee 2003. OK, back then each class had only 1 moto but Stefan won the 125cc class, the MXGP class and the open class.
2. Stefan Everts memoribale ride at the MXdN 2001 in Namur. He totally overclassed everyone else. Sadly team USA was not there because of the 9/11 incident. Ironically Everts being so strong that day is exactly why Belgium lost. Normally team USA was attending and RC would be the MX1 rider. Stefan had a perfect winning streak in Namur and he did not want to loose that against RC so he, as a world champion, insisted on riding his normal bike. That ment that Joël Smets had to step down to the 250 cc 2 stroke and Joël just could not ride with that bike. Steve Ramon was our 125 cc rider and he was twice the 1ste 125cc at the line., though he only finished 10th and 11th (i think). The Namur track really did not favour the 125cc bike. So Everts won his class, Ramon won his but Smets was nowhere to be seen in his class giving the overall win to team France.
3. Stefan Everts winning the 500cc GP of Namur back in 1998. Stefan was riding the 250cc class but made a guest appearance in Namur in the 500cc class. He used his normal GP bike but it was modified for the 500cc class. Everts won, much to do dislike of the 500cc riders : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVi9NSv8PJ0
Stewart Indy 07 was silly. Whoops and 4 out of the turn. Nuts.
Any outdoors in 06 where RC and Stew went at each other. Washagoul, Glen Helen, and Red Bud/Budds 07 for that matter.
Reedy Indy 04 was fun, was ripping through.
Pontiac 02, Reed and RC both came from last to 2nd.
Fro, Steel City 96 was pretty bad ass, he manned the fuck up, to a guy who'd been handing him his ass.
Kiedrowski 93 Des Nations on a 500 from deep in the pack on a shitty, off camber slick track. Saved it for you blokes a year before it went away after 13 years, and Malin's ride there was ridiculous. Go watch the tape, the bike sounded crazy.
RJ 87 Anaheim, "You can"
Gonna have to go with RV mxon 2007. Stew budds creek 2003. There are plenty others but those two just stick out in my mind.
Really anything with JS on a 125. Watching him push that thing around a track was magical. So much momentum. I will never forget watching him for the first time in real life in supercross at Dallas. Guess it was 02. They way he screamed that 125 across those whoops when I first walked into the stadium to watch practice had my heart racing. Just amazing the momentum he could carry on that little bike.
Pit Row
These mainly stood out because I'm a Dungey fan but those two rides were fun to watch.
1998 MXDN - Foxhills. He made the vast majority of riders on that track, that day, look like beginners. Truly atrocious conditions - what real motocross comes down to.
2006 MXDN - what a way to take a final bow. Feet up, around the outside of a fine rider in his own right - but far below Stefan.
The injuries SE came back from, and the length and success of his career, is astounding. I'd love to know just how many championships he won - we all know his World Titles, but what of his National championships? Then , of course, his ISDE outright - on his first try.
Much like Stewart at Budds 03

And that 2nd one... well... a lot of people say that JS was "riding for the team'. Those who were there (including me) know the thruth
1978
Three Rivers Stadium
From last to first...twice!
That will never happen in Supercross again...ever.
