I'd rather have a little less room back there and bed that isn't 5' personally.

The bed is just a bit over 5'6" and I'm either hauling wood, dirt bikes, or lumber. I also pull a camper, boat, or snowmobile trailer, so I'd rather have the room in the cab and be comfortable.
Right on, there must be a lot who fit this description as it the trend has been to make that rear seat area bigger and bigger.

I've always found it strange when people say GM products are unreliable. I have a 1998 s-10 4 cyl, 5 spd with 425,000 miles on it, never even had the valve cover off with the original clutch and transmission. And it started right this morning temp was 7 degrees. It's like it has the heart of a lion and there are days I wish it would just shit the bed so I can finally buy something newer. But it just keeps going.

I got a 14 Sierra Denali with the 6.2 in October, loving it so far. Very roomy cab, 6.5' box. Lifetime avg 16.3mpg, best tank was 19.9. The truck's computer consistently reads 1mpg high as mentioned.

My only complaint is the poor headlight output.

I've always had good luck with GM's, so has my dad. He liked his 13 Silverado.

My last 3 trucks were a F150, F350 and a Ram 3500. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

2004 Silverado that I bought brand new. It currently has 52,000 miles on it and still looks brand new. It gets driven 10 miles per day and is parked inside both at home and at work. Here's the replacement list.

2- Intermediate steering shafts.
1- Rear driveshaft slip yoke.
1- HVAC door servo motor.
1- Lights have burned out in HVAC control panel.
1- Instrument cluster.
1- Water pump gaskets.
1- Tail lights burn bulbs out every 6 months or so.
1- I'm currently replacing both heads due to cracking which fills the oilpan with glycol sludge, a problem that GM knew about for 7 years with Castech heads yet refused to rectify.
1- Bed is starting to rust.

I have a feeling that most of the "unreliable" complaints are from people who either bought a lemon, or who work in the dealerships. People who work in dealerships only see the problems because nobody brings their vehicle to them when everything is running good.

All makes and models have deficiencies but not every vehicle put out experiences problems. Plus some people are WAY more picky than others.

My opinion is that both are probably quality trucks. Especially if you're buying newer trucks. Test drive them both and see which one YOU like better.

I have a 2014 Tundra Limited, and I absolutely love it. I'm really happy with the overall quality of the truck, and I feel that I got more bang for my buck over the Silverado and F-150 I test drove (similar trims). One of the things that swayed me towards the Tundra is the cab space in the Crew Cab. I'm 6'2", and in every other truck I've owned, I had to slide the drivers seat forward if there was a passenger sitting directly behind me. The amount of leg room the back seats have is pretty unreal. A buddy of mine who is about 6'5" (all legs) sat in the back a few weeks ago and I didn't have to move my seat an inch. Even he commented at how much room he had without me budging. Plus, the back seats seem to have a little bit more room for car seats, which is always nice. Bed space hasn't been an issue at all, and the 5.7 liter engine hauls some serious ass. Hope this helps!

I wish Dodge trucks came with a 6 1/2 foot bed instead of 6 foot and I'd take a good hard look at a F150 Ecoboost 3.5 or whatever it is, and I'm not really a 1/2 ton truck person.

But those fuckin things run well. That said, Ive had Toyotas, GMs and Fords and no problems other than a few normal bullshit items like a bulb here and there, Alternator at 150K etc.

I love Tundras Real Crew cab Mega Cab deal, but God damn, can I get some bed with the cab? At least 6 feet?

I have a 2014 4 door z71 4x4 for work and while doing "real world" interstate driving I usually average around 17-19 mpg highway (unloaded, 1 passenger) while the EPA says it will get 22. Granted that I'm always running 75 mph and Ohio's interstates aren't flat; a bunch of ups and downs.

You probably could get 22 MPG but that would need to be under perfect conditions; sea level, completely flat road, no headwind, and 70 MPH.

My mileage does bump up to 20-21 while running 60MPH on state routes.

Also, never go off what the stupid "fuel economy" computer says. It is always 1-3 mpg high vs my hand calculated values.

My buddies Dad had issues with his 2013 sierra burning all kinds of oil, part of the cylinder deactivation got screwed up and his truck would burn a quart of oil every 1K miles. Granted, he did still get over 250k miles out of his truck before he traded it in.
I thought it was common knowledge 99% of vehicles will never get the amount on the sticker.

Why, because they run super lean mapping, in perfect conditions, with super inflated tires to get those specs.
Hell they've been known to tape off front end areas as well.

Something knocking and pinging doesnt mean shit to a throwaway vehicle.

I bought a 2014 Silverado 4x4 LTZ last year and it's now sitting at 20,000 miles. I am blown away with how quiet the road noise is, how smooth it is and the great gas mileage. I drive from AZ to west Texas for work once a month, and doing 80-85 mph I average 19-22 mpg depending on headwind (that's with my calculator). In town I also get great mileage. The truck has so many features and is very comfortable to be in. I've had zero problems, and my oil changes are covered by GM to 36,000 miles.

I owned a 2012 Silverado before it and got it up to 60,000 miles with no problems to speak of, just oil changes and tires. I have buddies with Tundras and none have had problems with them and they do have a bit more power than the Chevys, but they are gas hogs and not nearly as comfortable to be in.

You can't go wrong either way, but I would recommend the Chevy.

The interior feels MUCH bigger in the Toyota than the Dodge. It's a little bigger than the Chevy but the one thing I couldn't get over with the new Rams is the interior just felt small. Other than that, the Dodge is my second pick. That Hemi engine is no joke. And it was averaging 17 MPG's. I was surprised by that because I had heard they got 12ish. I guess the newer hemi's are more efficient.

Ressurecting this thread. Drove a 17 sierra slt today and other than the 52k sticker, I loved everything about the truck. Just wondering what issues you guys have seen on the 14-17 chevy/gmc trucks to this point. Up till now, I have been thinking tundra only. Love the sliding rear window and my 4runner has been bulletproof. The gmc blew me away with the fit and finish of the cab along with the stereo options and leather seats. The comparable tundra ALMOST feels cheap inside.

My buddy bought a 16 danali , he's had in 3 times for a transmission problem , he has zero mechanical skills so i'm not sure exactly what it was or wasn't doing . He pulls his 20 something foot Lund with it . Something about it not shifting and then slam shifting .

My father has been driving a Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country these last couple of years with no problems. Called me earlier today saying he's looking at getting a new '17. In fact he was at the dealer and with all the rebates and the 0% financing/6 years I think his truck payments are going up 50$/month.

Would be pretty stupid not to trade it in at this point.

I'm in Canada so not sure what kind of deals are being offered down south but I'd imagine something similar.

Was always a Chevy guy and never had any problems. He switched to Ford once and never again. The thing practically started falling apart as soon as he left the dealer. Been back in GM products ever since.

My company truck is a 16 Chevy 1500 4x4 with the 5.3 and 6 speed transmittion.

After 45k miles, occasionally the "service stabilitrak" code pops up on the screen after driving through water or hitting a pothole just right. It has always gone away after an hour or two.

The transmission sometimes slips going from park to drive. Always occurs after 4-5 seconds of pressing the accelerator, then it will slam into gear. It might be the torque converter? I'm not sure.

Other than that its been solid. The engine hour meter is just under 2k hours.

It gets hung up in 4 cylinder mode at low speeds and sounds like the top end is going to come apart. Have yet to have been able to get rid of the vibration at certain speeds. At just over 46,000 miles my engine light came on a few days ago for what appears to be a clogged fuel tank purge valve. Add to that the driver's seat started to tear at about 10,000 miles and the paint on the bottom of the cab where the drivers door closes has started to come off. New F-250 here I come!

Be careful getting any vehicle with too many gimmicky shit built into it. The more moving parts the more shit breaks. Tundras are quality trucks. My wife has a Toyota Sienna. I have a Tundra. And also a Corolla. My sister spent more on her mini van then we did on ours. I can't remember the maker, but it had all the latest gizmos and doohickeys that work just long enough to gee wiz you on the sales floor. Her vehicle is not even 6 months old and been in the shop atleast a dozen times for various problems both mechanical and due to material quality issues.

The exact reason I bought the Tundra TRD Pro 4wd, less crap to go wrong is an added bonus for me. There are a list of wants I have with the Tundra though. That huge cab with zero under or behind seat storage. That midget bed with the Crew Max. No LED or Xenon headlamp option in the year 2017. And 13.9 drive it like you stole it MPG could be improved upon I feel.

Love the truck though. Hauls ass and handles great.

New F250? Check all the door gaps closely. Check the metallic paint for mottling/splotchy finish and check that the fuel door doesn't rub the bedside panel when you open it. I was pricing one out and to get the few options I really wanted I was going to have to get a whole lot of stuff I really didn't want. Decided to keep my old 7.3 F-250 and go with a gas powered Tundra. We will see how long the love affair lasts! Laughing

I'll wait for the 2018's to hit the ground before I buy. I'll keep an eye on that stuff. Looking like I'll go with an XLT FX4. Only things I really care about are the bigger in dash screen and backup camera. Will get a lift and wheels and tires so the factory stuff on that end doesn't matter.

Both trucks are excellent. Many of my friends have them and its really really just preference. I wanted a Ford at first but when i was looking I seached f250 problems and it was endless with issues that yearand they had a bunch of new motors each year and i guess there was an issue they admitted to on the 15s but no answers why. I really wanted one and some people have no issues but others do. The best truck i ever had was a Ford years ago. When i was at the dealership people were raging in the lobby and people were literally walking out and leaving thier new trucks in the lot broken. Scared me. I checked out the Silverado and found very few complaints online. I bought the 2015 2500 Duramax diesel fully loaded and its amazing. Drives itself and pulls my rigs effortlessly. No issues. Really enjoy driving these days which is weird.
