DV on Villo's bike mxgp

RV is a professional, surely he knows how to set up a bike, maybe its just an off day, maybe others are just faster, time will tell.

Personally I think he needs to add one tooth on the rear sprocket!

In the meantime DV is a has been, actually a never was.

Since RV was the only one with bad settings, bad electronics etc he should improve some as the season progresses. Being passed by a rookie riding on a new bike, new team in a new class then being gaped by 8 seconds must not be too inspiring. I'm sure there will be more excuses coming in a few days, don't lose hope.

Is it just me or could it be RV's riding style that bite him in the ass today, and not just his setup?

When a track get this bad you cant go balls out around the track?
If he have had a smoother riding style around the track, mabye things could have worked out better for him?

There is a reason why the rest of the feild have a different riding style than RV after riding GP style tracks their whole life.

I love what separates DV from other people when it comes to criticism. Most people just point out problems. He is actually specific and gives ideas for solutions.

Maybe not, but it might have something to do with going down twice

Agree Crush, think it was nothing more than it being his first race with new team.

Certainly do not think he will be blowing the field away and I see plenty more weekends when a Nagl, Paulin, Desalle and maybe others finish in front of him and Cairoli.

Like any series anywhere in the world, the first 1-2 rounds rarely give a true indication of the season ahead. If he is still going 7-8 by round four, then it is not looking so good.

Yup look at SX, Roczen won the first round and everyone was saying game over Roczen will win the season...look how that has turned out thus far....you just never know in MX/SX...old saying "it aint over until the fat lady sings" ..in this case the fat lady hasnt had her breaky yet let alone sing!!!

To do what? Put new graphics on? Change the grips? Polish the frame? I don't think that would change anything to RV's set up. You guys need to stop believing that the mechanics set up the bikes. They know stuff but they have no idea how to make an EFI curve or a fork valving. The guys you never see and behind the scenes do that stuff. Factory mechanics, most of them, don't open an engine, a shock, a set of forks and don't use Excel to come up with EFI set up. You gotta freaking wake up at one point, guys...

Tyla Rattray: “It was a tough weekend for me, for the team, for Ryan, for everyone. We’re not where we want to be; we did a lot of testing, with suspensions, we thought we had good settings coming here, but the GP tracks are much different than the US tracks and where we’ve been testing in Europe. In this case we return to the drawing board, and do some testing; we return with Ryan to Belgium before going to Thailand, we’ll do some more testing this week and will continue to work hard. Sometimes you have to deal with the circumstances, and do the best that you can, but we’ll be ready for Thailand.”

Looks like DV is on to something.

Edit: Some thoughts directly from Ryan too in the link above that I missed.

Tell Gregg Popovich he's a never was. The guy played college ball at Air Force, never played a minute in the NBA but I'm pretty sure he know about the game... The problem is that RV never had a good set up ever. He was just better and tracks suited him. Why did he struggle so much in Washougal and only won not long ago there? Cause it's hard packed, there's no berms, no traction and you have to use your front end to get in small inside ruts. When you have two 2x4s as forks and 140mm sag on the shock, it doesn't work on those tracks. It's just physics. That's exactly what I told him and his dad in A1. His dad said, we'll be fine, "we" steer with the rear. Even with the IQ of rock, you can figure out that steering with the rear & riding with a chopper with SX forks will NOT work. No matter how good you are... Call me has been, I'll accept it, but you can't call a GP/SX/National multiple winner a never was. Keep that for the guys that get 10x the respect I get but never won a pro main class race... Next...

Damn, you`re pissed, but that comes with a territory. You`re saying things people don`t want to hear and they are mocking you because of that. I for once completely agree with you. RV is better than this. They`ll just have to work on it. Hopefully he stays another year at GP`s.

Did you really need Rattray's confirmation to believe their set-ups were horrible? I just needed a couch, a wifi connection and to watch 15min of Moto 2 after my son's basketball game... Factory this. Magnesium this. Air that. Oil this. Titanium that. Aluminum this. And no one from the team/entourage saw from the side of the track (since he started riding in Europe) that his forks looked like a packing machine on a road construction site?

Its not about having the best bike, its about getting the best out of your bike.

They thought they knew better, and they didnt.

I love being a 'has been'... beats the shit out of a 'never was'..
