I have a couple of questions, we will be heading down to Atlanta for the first time for the next 2 supercross races.

1. I've been to a couple and waiting in line for 30+ minutes before the gates open, but I don't feel like it this year lol. I am thinking about just showing up about 30 minutes after the gates open, would the lines be gone by then to get into the gate?

2. Where is the best place to park to be able to get out after the race? I am looking at buying a permit for the Red Deck parking lot right across from the dome, but not sure how traffic would be after the race.

Depending on where you are driving in from, your best bet is to ride MARTA in and out. Traffic leaving the Dome after ANY event is horrible.

I suggest checking out the MARTA website and locating a station on your way in. Easy, safe parking and you can take the train directly to the station at the Dome.

Running down from the 75 north there are no real good places to park and hop on MARTA. I live straight up 400 so I can just park at the north springs station and ride down.

Been going for 19 years (minus last year for other reasons). Get there early and watch practice. Plenty of good places to eat inside or outside. Parking and traffic are a bitch. No getting around it. Expect it and prepare for it.

Really compared to a Falcons game SX is easy as far as traffic goes. Just hang out a while and watch the dozers run around the track.

Speaking of the track will they have two different layouts for the two weekends?

Been going for 10 years and this guy nailed it. Patience is key when leaving, otherwise you'll go insane. Also, get there early as parking gets more expensive the later you get there. First time I noticed it was the year before last. Two parking lots across the street from each other. The one closest to the dome was $15, the other was $35. No brainer, I took the $15 lot. But guess where everyone has to park after the $15 lot is full?

I'm coming from Marietta (where 75 meets 285). I go to the west end of the blue line which is H.E. Holmes station just south of I-20. Not much SX traffic from H.E. Holmes, where the north lines are packed for SX.

Never done this, but it seems interesting. What's your thoughts on me taking 285 off 75 South to H.E. Holmes and riding MARTA vs staying on 75 south and parking at the dome? Any quicker doing that? The cost for Marta would offset paying to park, but this seems it would sure beat traffic leaving. How long of a walk is it from the MARTA station to the dome?

Dont park at the dome, its a nightmare. The Vine City or the Dome/Phillips arena stations are right at the dome and probably closer than most parking. IMO parking at a MARTA station and riding the train in to the dome is the only way to do it.

Parking hasn't been a problem the last several years, it's leaving that's a nightmare. haha Some years when we have an entire weekend free we just get a hotel and walk to and from. I may try MARTA this year. Just trying to figure out which station would be the best to park at off 75S, even if it involves an alternate route.

The north lines are really packed for SX, the drive time is about the same so I would go to H.E. Holmes and come in from the west.

How does MARTA work? Ive never really rode a train, or subway. I watched a video from the website about getting the card a loading it, but still a little confused. I am looking at going from HE Holmes to the dome. It looks like the station is right off the interstate which would make leaving a bit easier.

I am planning on going to practice. Am I better off to wait 30 minutes or so after the pits open before I try to enter the stadium? to let the line die down. Also, are you allowed to bring in a monster can into the stadium? I know it says no outside food/drink, but for the pits it also says you can bring a monster can. I have always just bought pit passes, but this year I am trying to keep costs down.

I've been to every Atlanta SX except two: 76' and 83'. I've never had to wait outside to get in. We usually hang out at the CNN Center having a few beers, and head to the gate at about 6:00.

Red lot parking is really premium. Its right across from the Dome, I mean like 100 yards.I'm not a fan of MARTA for a variety of reasons. I have friends who insist on parking out on the perimeter and taking MARTA to the Dome. I have parked at the Red lot and been halfway home before my friends who take MARTA even get back to their cars. The key? Get the hell out of the stadium as soon as the checkered flag waves. I mean like, be on the aisle walking toward the exit looking back over your shoulder to watch the finish.

Actually, the same could be said for MARTA, to get on the first cycle of trains, you've got to be down there quick, otherwise, you can feel the pleasure of being packed into that underground sarcophagus like herded sheep waiting for the next train to come. Sorry, if I'm going to wait, its going to be in my climate controlled car with the radio station of my choice blaring. Pick your poison.

Disclaimer:
If you're coming in from the north, you may have a totally different experience. We come in from the SE, and its not exactly the best part of town, so we've experienced some pretty sketchy crap over the years (I was a Falcons season ticket holder for several years and did MARTA a lot). A good bit of my disdain for MARTA is due to some of the shit I've witnessed over the years, some with my (then) young son in tow.

If anyone is staying/parking in the parking garage under the Hilton hotel in downtown Atlanta, MAKE SURE YOU AREN'T DRIVING A FULLSIZE TRUCK WITH ANY LIFT WHATSOEVER!! The ceiling height has got to be at least 6" shorter than any normal parking garage. My 2006 F150 only has a 2-1/2" front coil spacer and 33" tires, and I literally had to let air out of my tires just to get my truck out of there. My buddy couldn't even fit his pinky finger between my roof and the ceiling. It was, by far, the scariest moment I've ever had in my truck haha... Pucker-meter was off the charts folks

Lines aren't too bad getting in for practice. they are pretty much cleared out in about 10 minutes after they open the doors. The pits are a zoo with wall to wall people and long lines getting in, so we haven't even bothered going over there the last 3 years. Maybe it will be better this year with 2 ATL races.

We always park across from the dome in a church parking lot. It's $30 to park but if you get there early you can park near the exit and get out pretty quick. The church parking lot adjoins the dome parking lot so it's just a short walk to get in. I would avoid the parking deck. We had a awful time getting out of it. The Marta works pretty good but expect a long line trying to leave. If you can get a room at the omni hotel you can walk to the dome with 80% of the walk being inside the world congress center. Just be patience getting out as traffic is always bad leaving. I can usually be on the interstate within 30 minutes if I park at the church. Good luck.

Im thinking about going to the CNN center to grab food after practice, but with everything moved up 30 minutes this year i'm worried about getting back inside the stadium in time.

Thanks OP for starting this thread, as I will also be attending my first SX (finally) this weekend with my wife. Since a contact of mine with Monster was able to snag 2 tickets for us (though I have no idea where the seats will be, you can't beat free), I splurged a bit and booked us a room at the Westin, which is around a mile or so from the Dome. I had originally considered walking but have read reviews on various hotel booking sites that walking around that area after dark, especially if you're doing so with your significant other, is sketchy at best. Anyone have any experience doing this?

I was also thinking a short cab ride to and from would be our best bet, has anyone ever tried getting a cab after the race is finished? How difficult is it to do so? I appreciate the info you veteran race-goers are providing. Being my first time going, and since I'm bring the ole' lady, I want to make sure I've got my game-plan together.

We always go to the CNN center for dinner. It's a short walk so you should have plenty of time to make it back before the race starts. Make sure to get a pass out before 5:30. They quit giving them out after 5:30. At least that's what I was told. I guess they want to keep you in the dome so you'll have to spend your money there?

We've walked from the Dome to Twelve Hotel, which is a little over a mile with no issues. About a 30 min walk, but you sit in traffic for 30 minutes trying to get out. Seen a few homeless on the sidewalk sleeping, but no issues. Besides them sleeping, we passed like 2 people the entire trip. On the way to the dome we asked the concierge if he had the number to a cab company, and he said "Where are you going?" We said the dome, and he said "I'll run you over there." Pretty cool I thought, so you might check with them and/or take a cab over just to save walking.

Thanks for info, got club seats so thought about hanging out in the lounge area from 5-6:30 but I know I will drop at least $30-50 for my wife and I to eat a small meal. I guess it will all depend on how the wife feels after practice.

The Pits are generally at the Georgia World Congress Center, which is a large exhibition hall across the street from the dome. So you don't actually enter the Dome to get to the pit area. And the line to get into the pits are always huge.

I've walked multiple ways from the dome back to downtown hotels and never had any issue other than the 1 time I walked slightly south, then east from the dome and was only asked for money "to ride the train"... As long as you walk east from the dome, which is exactly what you would to get to the Westin, you shouldn't have any problem. There's literally hundreds of people doing the same thing.

Can you enter the dome to watch practice or do they wait until later to open the dome? I think I'll wait until the lines die down before I try to go, I don't wanna stand out in the cold lol

You can get in everywhere at noon. Your choice, go to the pits for the pit party or the dome to catch practice. Like mentioned above it is two separate buildings. Also, the line to get into the pits in INSIDE, so there is no "standing in the cold." The only cold is walking from the dome to the pits and back. Otherwise you're inside.

I've been to a few of the Supercross races there and tried a few different options. By far the best/easiest is just staying at the Omni/CNN center and parking there. It is expensive though. I've stayed at hotels further away and just walked back a few times and this is fine. I've taken a cab too when it was cold and its not that bad if you don't mind shelling out $10 - $15 if you are close. I usually don't get in a huge rush leaving either. As far as parking I have never parked at the Dome, looks horrible. I've only done this twice but am planning on doing so again, but park at the Georgia Aquarium around the corner (0.9 miles according to Google Maps). It is $9 if you buy ahead of time an only $10 if you pay there. I believe it is only 2 right turns out of the parking deck and you are on I-75/85.

This will be my first time at the Atlanta Supercross since moving to Atlanta (NE) last year. My dad and I will be going to both of them this year, excited for the back to back weekends.

*They answered your questions about pits and lines so listen to that. The only time I ever had to wait more than 10 minutes was when I got there before they opened the doors.

Anyone know how they are situated as related to seats/sections?
