Lap times at Red Bud. I've raced Red Bud and even if you haven't you can see how insanely rough it gets. Track deterioration may be slightly different but I've seen it after bikes and after quads and both are brutal.
And that's after they cut all the jump faces down, widen the turns, etc. for the quads...

It's not the same track as an MX National and everybody knows it.

But no joke, guys that build these things know how much money goes into building one. Not talking buying a bike n piecing together. here is a quick list of just few parts..

Chassis- $5000
A-arms with TI bolts$1000
Swing arm with TI swinger bolt $1000
Suspension- $3-3500
Plastics- $500
Stem- $250
Motor- $1000 to buy about $2,000 into rebuild (ALL new internals)
Axle-$400
Nerf bars $400


Now still gotta buy seat n pan, exhaust, front spindles brake rotors and cailbers, rear cailbers and rotor, master cylinders,all brake lines, levers, bars, clamps, bars, kill cord, bumper n grab bar, axle lock nut, bearing carrier, grips, graphics, seat cover, radiator and lines, and sure list goes on.

Just think what it would be like to build a dirt bike from frame up without even having a bike to start with. Every nut n bolt needs to be bought or made. yea, it can be overwhelming to a point. But love em or hate em.. a fully build custom race bike is basically like a "WORKS" bike of the 80's n 90's.

That is exactly the reason why the sport of ATV MX racing hasn't grown over the past 20 yrs. only the die hards seem to stick around for more then a few years.

And for the record ladies n gentlemen, quad riders don't really enjoy sharing track with dirt bikes either. I ride both and see both sides of the coin. I hate track days that run everyone together. They do work the dirt different and it makes for shitty day of riding for everyone.

We sponsor the Root River Racing team and I attened several races last year. They brought home 5 #1 plates for us!

Impressive what these guys can do on a 4 wheeler. They jump all the jumps and 100% haul ass.

The schedule I saw was the limited classes race the day after the RC AM SX.

Apologies, but anyone saying "they jump all the jumps" that's not even close. Look at vids of quads at Red Bud. Many cant even clear the table tops and they have turned LaRocco's leap into "Bruce Jenner Leap". Those quad dudes have skills, no doubt, but they don't compare to MX/SX. Easy to solve, line up the top 5 quads vs top 5 MX/SX on the same gate, let me know what happens.

Fuck. I wish they'd run the quads before the bikes on harescramble days in the spring. Ruts up to your armpits make for an interesting day.

Most national caliber quad guys ride and race dirt bikes as well. So they respect what the top SX/MX rider can do and how fast they can go. But seems to be only the dirt bike guys who wanna wip out the tape measure and start talking about how bikes are way faster. Well I'll say it, "DIRT BIKES ARE FASTER" ! Any quad rider who knows what he is talking about would have to agree with you. Heck, id put my money on the pro dirt bike racer as well. Still doesn't mean quad racing is a gnarly life risking sport just like dirt bike racing. Quad guys do it for the love of the sport. Not the factory rides, not the million dollar contacts or corporate sponsors and not cause it's the cool thing in your town to do to get chicks. Quads really not looking to win the debate over speed, they just out riding and racing cause it's what they love to do. Have some respect for your fellow off-roader!!

Alright you put a pro quad rider and a pro mx rider on a slicked out hard pack track and then put them on a deep rutted track.

Who wins the hard pack? Quad all day.
Who wins the deep? Bike.


Quad nationals are closer to nascar in comparison. Small club that loves racing. And atv is not growing. It's crippling expensive to get people into the sport. Or is it growing ? I got no data but mark Baldwin is always saying how it ain't kike it used to be when I stop by the shop. ...

That quad guy would MAYBE have a chance against a top level B rider. No way he is anywhere close to an AMA pro on any track.

I don't get them. I can't stand them racing on the same day as real motocross. If you can ride a quad fast then it's time to get a 2 wheel bike and show you really do know how to ride lol I took my training wheels off when I was 3

You do realize that the top level B riders normally have the speed of a Pro SX/MX rider.

Look at the results of last year LL B class riders and see what they are doing this year.

I'm fine with quads sharing events with mx ONLY IF THEY ARE MANDATED TO RACE AFTER ALL BIKE EVENTS.

And I hate quads but chad wienen was hauling ass last couple weeks in Florida. He showed up a couple days I was riding. So to compare them to C riders is retarded.

And at malvern pro day two years ago josh upperman was turning fastest laps of the day. Faster than the A Bike riders by 3 seconds a lap.

I'm all for it as long as they run after the bikes. They destroy corners, which is why racing WORCS isn't as fun anymore since they combined the weekend with bikes and Quadzillas.

they race the quads before the bikes at the d14 hare scrambles and the only thing i liked about that was if it was muddy they would blow the mud off of the track but other than that they make terrible ruts for bikes.
