I posted the lap times because someone asked for that picture and I remembered where I saw it so I screen grabbed it. The quad times on the left are Chade Wienen and Joel Hetrick and the lap time on left is KR in first and Tomac in second I believe.

lol that video is a bunch of overweight local goons. My buddy who works for Racer X does filming on the side and made this of an actual Pro National at Red Bud.

Haha I like what you did there NV825.

But no joke, guys that build these things know how much money goes into building one. Not talking buying a bike n piecing together. here is a quick list of just few parts..

Chassis- $5000
A-arms with TI bolts$1000
Swing arm with TI swinger bolt $1000
Suspension- $3-3500
Plastics- $500
Stem- $250
Motor- $1000 to buy about $2,000 into rebuild (ALL new internals)
Axle-$400
Nerf bars $400

Now still gotta buy seat n pan, exhaust, front spindles brake rotors and cailbers, rear cailbers and rotor, master cylinders, all brake lines, levers, bars, clamps, bars, kill cord, bumper n grab bar, axle lock nut, bearing carrier, grips, graphics, seat cover, radiator and lines, and sure list goes on.

Just think what it would be like to build a dirt bike from frame up without even having a bike to start with. Every nut n bolt needs to be bought or made. yea, it can be overwhelming to a point. But love em or hate em.. a fully build custom race bike is basically like a "WORKS" bike of the 80's n 90's.

Dont waste your time try to explain anything to these goobers. Might as well try to get Rain Man to shop at Walmart and watch Judge Judy.

Chris Borich (GNCC Champ) comes to our local harescramble every year. That guy is out of his mind fast in the woods, and he is usually just cruising because of his minute + lead.

Quads are still gay

Can we let the "oh they ruin the tracks" thing go? Let's just say we aren't overly enthused when we come at a jump face and there's 15 ruts up it, quads like to go sideways and when they do it usually involves us being run over by them. The thing that aggravates me is that people talk about "Real" Moto, the days of Bailey, Johnson, Decoster, Hannah etc. When you watch vids from back then, there's dust and blue groove everywhere, yet you didn't hear them bitching and moaning about it, they just rode their 500cc death traps for 30 minutes, then had a smoke drank a beer and stole your girl while you stood there in awe.

I remember when I first started, we had an ATV only series, eventually the economy went for a shit and we had to move back with the bikes. That's how it's been ever since. We aren't happy about it and the bike guys aren't thrilled either, but there have been a few events that would have been cancelled without us and without the bikes we couldn't race. Entries are down guys, we all need to set aside our differences and keep the sport alive at the grassroots level,
No we won't let the "oh they ruin the tracks" thing go. Where I come from we have motocross tracks for dirt bikes. Then one day somebody thought it would be a good idea to let the fat pig known as a quad ride and race to make more money. So, nobody cares if the quad guys don't like what the bikes do to the track. If you don't like it, open a quad track where they outweigh the number of bikes 20:1. Wink

I'm a bike guy, never got into quads, but damn it is impressive seeing how they can throw a quad around a SX track. Now obviously not nearly as fast as bikes but it seems a lot more difficult for a quad on these tight tracks (lots of crashes it seems). Daytona SX with quads would be cool to watch.
Now that is what I would call a one lined track. That track is way too skinny.

That's probably why their aren't more atv mxers, who could afford to race that. Just look what four stroke bikes did to local events.

Not all mx quads cost that much. Just like bikes, you can find sick mx quads for well under $10k.

Lap times at Red Bud. I've raced Red Bud and even if you haven't you can see how insanely rough it gets. Track deterioration may be slightly different but I've seen it after bikes and after quads and both are brutal.
Quads get the track on tuesday after everyone went home.

Glad someone caught my joke Grinning

I have no issue with quad riders as long as they're riding on a different day than bikes when it comes to tracks. Seeing that I don't ride tracks anymore and just enjoy the trails, they are a rare occurrence due to their width when it comes to single track.

our local series let's ATV's race the same days as the bikes. doesn't really bother me on race days, especially if it's muddy lol they'll throw the quads out there for 30 minutes or so and clear the mud for the bikes.

only time it ever bothered me is when they are on the track on regular practice days. it's always sketchy as fuck trying to pass a Joey on a quad that's going marginally slower than everyone else. i mainly ride offroad, so the track sucking isn't new to me.

i will say the dudes at the top of the ATV-MX sport are badasses at what they do.

What's the difference between quads going out and destroying the berms and ruts and having a bobcat go out and do the same thing between heats?

Ever since they started grooming Daytona during race day and dropping the lap times to fit the TV schedule, it's become just another cookie cutter SX. Too bad, it used to be something really special.

a lot of sites won't let you hot-link pictures (aka embed), i've experienced it more than once.

still, downloading a Beiber picture should be grounds for at least a week ban, two weeks because there's a quad in it

I don't wanna offend anyone but whenever I saw quads racing on the same track as I was going to be racing on I got sick from the thought of our worked in lines that they destroy in a lap. i remember racing at glen Helen and they sometimes put us the moto after quads and id go out there to a track that sucked.
