I got my life lesson when I was a kid. One day at racetrack I was running my mouth about some racer, instantly got a good slap to my head from the guy who was staying next to me(pro who was a member of my own motoclub) Then he took a good long look at me and said. Never ever criticize a man who is faster or better of anything than you. I remember that day like it was yesterday and since this I never did that.

to like/not like a racer from a fan standpoint is normal but to hate, call names or wish ill will on someone you don't even know is quite shallow...

Sorry but that's some over sensitive shit. Sif it's even a sticky.

People criticise, learn to mind your own business and if your that way inclined, set an example by not posting criticism... Oh wait.

I think it's more about respect, some people are raised with it and some are not.
It is also a cowardly act to talk shit about people from behind a keyboard. That doesn't mean people can't critique a rider, but try to use the respect that their parents taught them, or should have taught them.

People just need to understand we are fans that like to talk shit and gossip around the water cooler. For me at least I know at the very root how much I respect each and every rider and there talent but come on man we still have the right to gossip and talk shit. That's what the message boards are for. For us fans to have a little fun. Pro riders need to understand this and not get all butthurt about it. I bet many pro riders talk shit about pros in other sports. We all do it and it's just for fun. Sure, there is a limit and there is ignorance involved but at the end of the day we are just shooting the shit.

I like to talk a little shit just like everyone else. I think Mike Alessi is a clown, despite his natural abilities on a dirt bike. His brother is an idiot and so is his father. I don't think that makes me an eveil prick to say that though. It's just talk. Can Alessi beat me in a race? Haha, even if I had a one lap head start in a 3 lap race he might lap me, but he's still an idiot. I like that we can smack talk the riders. It's part of being a fan.

Good post, but the "WWE" and "Monster Truck" crowds are their bread and butter. Last SX I went to about 9 years ago I never went back. People were booing Ricky and I was disgusted to see father and sons doing that.

Can't even remember why they were booing him? It was an odd year, but he was booed at more than that one race.

/\ This!! I have a crap ton of respect for anyone who races at that level, like OP said, we should never confuse our Sunday ride at Chicken Licks raceway with the complete life of dedication it takes to make it to the pro level.

I think OP is on point. It's one thing to be a student of the sport and offer insight or make observations (that may or may not make any given rider happy), but it's another to go nuclear on people for no reason. I try to abide by the rule that I wouldn't type anything on here that I wouldn't say to any of the riders in person. Not for fear of them beating my ass, but just because that is the right way to conduct ourselves as human beings.

Holy cow, man....you're still alive??? Good stuff! As for the OP & others, agree 100%. Having mod'd this forum & others for the past 10 or so years, though, I can tell you it's unrealistic. The problem is...some folks "get" the Interweb, and some don't. Because of the anonymity allowed, people tend to talk out the side of their mouths w/o fear of actual reprisal, rather than just act like a civilized human being. Not saying people can't voice their opinion about a rider(s), but try n show some class about it. Or Heaven forbid have a sense of humor about it. That being said...asking people to be civil on the interweb is pretty much like trying to staple Jello to a tree. Hell, maybe I'm the one who doesn't get the interweb?...//TJ

If you're as French as you say you are, what do you care about the first amendment?

Also, should the first amendment be considered the first glaring error that needed fixing in the constitution? Wink

My take is, you have the right to say what you want here...and I have the right to edit to community standards. Or to make it tolerable to read.

Considering the injury Pourcel had to recovery from I'm impressed with his dedication and motivation. I think he well represented France while over here. I personally don't believe many riders would have ever attempted to make a professional comeback after such a severe injury.

I saw Marty Smith and the Hurricane at New Orleans in 76. I was an 125 Amatuer rider in the NO area @ the time. A couple of local 125 experts that were really fast (I thought) made the cut into the 125 National class. Those 125 experts were lapped well before halfway into the motos. Blew my mind. That water pumper Hannah was on was beyond imagination back then.

Please don't confuse "talking shit" with criticism. I love Ryan Dungey. I couldn't respect the guy more but I've said he's not a great passer as have other former and current pros. Please tell me you're not the type of person who interprets that as "talking shit".

I'm a life long Yamaha fan, a fellow New Yorker and a big fan of JGR so I'm rooting like hell for Barcia. So am I not allowed to say he's been disappointing?? People on here are way sensitive IMO. Saying Barcia is struggling to them is like saying I fn Hate Barca die you scumbag!

This same crap talking and disrespect is seen by track owners and operators as well. Online bashing because the tracks aren't prepped enough or too much, purposely damaging property because they get mad about track conditions, cussing at staff because we catch them sneaking in people and make them pay or get banned, yelling at us because we charge $25 to ride.... I could go on and on. People talk about noise and lawsuits being the biggest threat to local tracks, but I believe those are often times just the final straw.
I guess that's just what you get from a sport that has such a high number of young kids or wealthy people that feel they are entitled to whatever they want.
It simply comes down to bad manners and immaturity.

I for one get very dissapointed in people on the internet period. You read any news article or gossip column and people are so full of hatred and negativity. It's very sad. I hardly ever bash riders but many times I will speak what I am thinking whether I truly believe it or not. Sometimes the keyboard gives you the courage to spout out whatever comes to mind without fear of repercussion. However, there is alot of hate in this world and I scroll through comments all over the web and I honestly can't believe what I read 99% of the time. It's very sad.

However, when it comes to most the posts on here I really don't see anything that is out of the ordinary too often. We talk shit and gossip and stir stuff up but it's mostly for fun. I rarely see a lot of hate on this board. More just trash talking.

The urban dictionary has entries for "Cleanup in aisle xx" where xx goes up to 9. Never heard of aisle 30 Evil
