In my eyes it was a racing incident, but unless your completely alone on the track, not holding your line over a jump and jumping diagonally to get to the inside is going to bite you and probably someone else someday. This is something most riders learn at a young age and the hard way.

That's the thing, it wasn't a "tap" like a little bump like in the case of a block pass. Reed's intention was to run Canard off the track, which is why he continued to lean on him after making initial contact.

My personal opinion, not a black flag. The officials look silly for flagging this, having let way worse stuff slip past in the last years of supercross.

If Reed was racing forward instead of blocking to keep from going backwards, even further... this wouldn't be talked about. Trey's pass would have been clean(just as Dungey's was on Chad) and Chad would have only lost a single postilion. He got himself landed on by going diagonal in a spot he KNEW was a prime passing place on the track!

Trey came from outside the top ten and was working his way to a podium finish. Reed at one point was in third and was working his way back to top ten finish! Trey's night was ruined far worse than Chad's, no matter how Chad or Dave O try to spin it!

This little storm you brewed up is laughable. I am not sure if you think your Nostradamus, or batman

What's interesting to me about this is, I've commented in the past how Trey will crossjump like a MADMAN to keep someone behind him... seriously, it's scared the crap out of me watching him in the past.

He should have been ready for the same

I think it is pretty much fact. Dungey and Tomac got by easily and then Trey closed in, so ya he was going to pass him soon...

Why bother watching the race when you already know the outcome?

I'm one of the guys that loves the way Bowers races. A lot of people don't see any difference between slamming a guy for position and cleaning out a guy who has slowed down and moved over out of the main line.

For some reason this reminds me of the new "defenseless player" rules in the NFL.

Anything can happen, I agree. You can also make an educated guess on what is about to happen as it unfolds. To put it plainly, Trey wouldn't have ever jumped onto Reed if he wasn't catching him.

Long time lurker here. After seeing your interview over at TWMX, it forced my to make this post.

Clearly, and maybe Chad too, you're kidding yourself if you think what Chad did was any different than the act of others. The facts are:

1. Canard was running faster and it was only a matter of time before he got by. Chad knew it and should have sensed Trey was close.

2. Chad took the jump outside - inside and jumped diagonally. Again, he knew Trey was close and should have known that might be a bad idea.

3. Trey made a bad move and tried to jump past him in hopes of squaring him up in that next turn. Didn't quite work out.

4. Most importantly here. Trey DID NOT have the intention of nailing Chad. It was a bad race decision.

5. Chad (consciously) made the decision to take out Trey....ON PURPOSE....as payback.

If you, as a leader of a factory supported team do not understand the difference and choose to see it in some other distorted reality, then you clearly do not understand the difference between right and wrong. Whining about other people not getting in trouble is never going to make one look good. Two wrongs don't make a right. Just like the NBA. Retaliation is always the one to get caught.

The correct response would have been..."Trey made a bonehead pass attempt and it didn't work out and costed both he and Chad. Chad let his temper unfortunately get the best of him and it costed him some championship points. Chad will make a note of it and move on."
Chad jumped to the inside to take the inside line in the next corner, ever heard of protecting your line? So now he's supposed to guess what Canard is going to do behind him? Lol

I have never heard of the faster rider gambling with odds on wether the rider in front is jumping to the inside or not. If I'm the faster rider, I pay attention and find a good spot. If I'm the slower, I protect the crap out of the insides and force your ass to go all the way around. Still never heard of this faster rider BS you speak of. It's knowing the track and understanding the passing spots. It has zero to do with jumping diagonally. Reed was in front and could go where he wanted too. Period

I don't like what happend at A2, as I really like both, Chad and Trey. And I kind of wouldn't allow me any judgement on the incident, cause I never raced professionally.

BUT I have to say, that after hearing the interview with Dave O., I couldn't believe a grown man - in charge of a professional race team - can be as whiny as a little child. Bringing other racers and incidents into the equation does never look good.

These posts are so much nonsense.
What TC did and what CR did happen all the time in mx/sx.
The AMA response is the issue. Using their reasoning, Bowers should be banned for the season, for what he MIGHT do. He admitted he retaliated and would do it again if he gets pushed around. And also, Bowers' attitude was celebrated here and on the broadcast.

I once got in a car accident because some moran rear ended me because he didn't realize that I was slowing down to turn. So, naturally, I waited for him to pull over and then I ran into his car to show him what I thought of that! I still don't understand why the police gave me the bigger ticket and suspended my driver's license...

I would disagree. If I'm in front I don't "go where ever I want". Can still have issues cross jumping if someone is behind but gaining.

I'm of the mindset that this is a pure racing incident then Reed made a stupid move in retaliation. As far as "never hearing of the faster rider gambling with the odds on whether the rider in front is jumping inside or not", let me point out a few facts from the race Saturday night. Roczen passed Short for the lead in the exact same corner with the exact same move that Canard made. Roczen gambled and won. It was also the "pass of the race". Dungey passed Reed in the exact same corner, using the exact same maneuver as Roczen and Canard. Dungey gambled and won. Canard followed Reed closely for almost 2 laps and the lap prior to the incident in the exact same corner, Reed took the outside line through that section (as he did every lap prior that was shown on video) and it was fairly obvious that Canard was faster than Reed in that section. The next lap around, Canard was all over Reed and Canard gambled, went for the pass in the exact same way as Dungey/Roczen and then Reed changed up his line, Canard landed on him, etc. All the passes were gambles, 2 paid off, 1 didn't. I don't blame Canard for the move because it wasn't an original move and Reed hadn't taken that line all night. It is what it is.

The only controversy I see that is warranted is the inconsistency from the AMA on black flags for retaliation.

"If you're in front you can go where you want" - I'd love to hear what all the pros think about cross jumping. My guess is that they don't take it too lightly.

But, I'll remember that next time I'm out on the track. If a local pro is about to pass me over a jump, I'll simply cross jump to ensure that he stays behind me.

Does it matter? Reed only wins when the other top riders are out, and this year there are too many fast guys out there. Reed didn't have a chance from the start.

I think calling this cross jumping is weak. It's not a straight line triple or double, it's part of a tight "S" section, and inside, inside is one of a few ways to ride that section.

Lots of Reed slurpers on Vital. He must have more fans than any other mid-pack rider out there.

I am not talking about cross jumping like Alessi. Chad had a bike length over Trey. This entitles him to shut down the inside corner. If he was almost dead even hitting the jump and crosses into him? Different story. As for the gamblings of Roczen and dungey. Neither one of them take big risks like canard. They also had for room because at those moments, Andrew and chad left the inside open. That does not mean they forced there way into the inside by gambling the rider in front was staying wide.
