Jeff Emig has told us all, probably about 1900 times over the last nine years, that the key to winning is to have confidence. Everyone has picked up on this key word and there is practically never an interview in which it does not come up.
Each time Jeff mentions confidence, it reminds me of RV's comments on this subject (see below link to Racerhead #23 from 2006)
RV has the total opposite opinion.

To me the definition of "confidence" is knowing that you can do something before you do it.
“What is confidence? How can you be confident or not confident? I mean, you are as fast and as good as you are, and that’s it, right? I don’t even know what people are talking about when they say that stuff. You go to the line and race, and if you're the fastest guy, then you win.”
I've always thought RV's outlook on that was really cool. You ride how you ride...
emig must of had a confidence issue ,during his race career.to have it repeated so often.nothing wrong with that.but ,apparently does not apply to rv's world.
I'm gonna go with nonsense. because thats what it is. It's an arrogant, self congratulatory statement, OR, he is just that clueless in regards to human behavior, including his own.
psychosomatics is a highly developed area in the study, or science, of psychology. RV doesn't get to decide whether it exists or not.
acts like a robot...now talks like a robot. he is so ready for world domination.
Wow, what a clown you are. Should probably study your own post for signs of depression and possibly an inferiority complex
it still doesn't change anything. RV is wrong. Confidence , conceptually and comparatively, exists.
what complex is it that makes you try to insult people for no reason? yeah....
Just thought it was a bit harsh is all
Pit Row
And I wasn't coming down that hard or harsh, I just said it was nonsense, which is still what I think it is. It's just more understandable to know that was said by a kid.
I'm not a fan. I don't root for him, nor do I root against him. But I do enjoy his racing and feel the experience is better with him involved.
I can only critique, or criticize him as a racer, not a person, because I only know him as a racer. I do not know him personally, and therefor have no feeling one way or the other about him personally- and the fact that I even have to pronounce that, is disheartening. Fans should not have to qualify their statements and opinions every time they make a god damn comment.
I see him as robotic, yes- but you took it upon yourself to determine my feelings about that (and maybe you didn't). Thats on you. I have nothing but respect for "all business" athletes like RV- If I was interested in personalities I'd watch reality TV instead of following MX.
you do and act on/react to certain things in life that one questions their ability to do a task.
for me,i do not need confidence to wake up in the morning and do my tasks thereafter.
rv been racing since a very young age and probably filled his mind with information to do the tasks in front of him.which is being better or the best.
so,i don't think about or depend on confidence to wake up in the morning ,as to rv's mindset on racing from a very young age.he probably learned at an early age, worrying about " confidence" is the same as being mentally defeated.
The same could be said for racers. RV included of course.
you do know that anyone can go and look at every single post anyone has ever made..right?
If we could somehow do a fMRI scan of him riding under pressure, vs Stewart a few years ago, I would be willing to bet his emotional regions of the brain would be less activated, which has an impact on decision making (cognitive functions) and motor reflexes.
