I was going through the latest MXA, saw the 250 2stroke shootout and wonder how the lastest CR, RM and KX250 would stack up against the new KTM, TC and YZ250. Would it be realistic to think that an actual shootout could be made? Or is it a stupid idea? I think many of you probably thought of it, I am pretty sure it's still possible to find these bikes that are not in production in immaculate stock trim. Would any manufacturer of the bikes that are not in production be willing to contribute?

Mine is still mildly tuned with a PC pipe, I might send the cylinder back and go whole hog with it. I was dragging a local pro down the back straight of my local track and he couldn't pull me and he was on a 2014 KTM 450.... Then again he smoked me everywhere else so I might just be remembering it differently than it actually occurred

The point I was making is my 2006 KX250 that was unridden when purchased last year was and is competitive today against 450's, just more so now with some mild porting... why wouldn't it be competence against a 2015 250SX even when stock???
The two vs four stroke debate will rage on....however each is suited to it's own dirt type. Thumpers like the dry stuff better but smokers are a little faster most everywhere else.
That said....all new bikes and tons of used bikes, in stock condition, are set up for the general masses and obvisously some work better than others...any given year. It seems to me like 1990-92 to today the bikes are all fairly competetive with each other. My 92 KX was good suspension 'wise and had a great engine...it would walk most other brands and would snuff the track chop way better than the similiar year Hondas and RMs. KTMs weren't even in the picture back then. I really don't feel my 03 RM is so much better. So a 13 probably isn't so much better. Each year is a little "different" or a step better or sometimes worse.
Not sure stock for stock a 125 and a 250F are so evenly matched. The F has much better torque and on certain tracks will blow a 125 away. On larger softer tracks the 125 has a chance though. I am absolutely not sold on fourstrokers...the rotating mass twerks handling and braking and are loud as hell, yet anybody can ride one "fast".
I wish honda made a cr with a 92 to 01 engine with keihin carb and the 2002 to 2007 frame and suspension with a few plastic changes. That bike would kick ass.
People list all bikes they can think of in the keyword section. Because you know, I'm searching for a KTM but hey, I will settle for your piece of shit Honda.
thats what many of us are doing fixing cheap bikes and modding the hell out of them and making great bikes in the process.
same company...different cc, different design...
Late gen CR250s were really slow in stock trim though.
