Ok I was just wondering what is the best protein powder for motocross racing and why? What do most pros use? And can you use the protein during riding or just before and after or just after?

Protein is still protein no mather what the label is. There's no protein specific for motocross (that's just what the companies wants you to believe). I guess the riders take whatever the sponsors pay them to take. Get a dietician and a personal trainer to set up what you need. A proper diet, sleep and a workout programme that works for you is the best start.

I don't use much protein powder. Maybe one to two scoops a day and that's mainly used for the flavor in my Banana fruit smoothies I make in my bullet blender. Over the years I have tried quite a few , and still to this day I like the GNC Gold standard >> http://www.gnc.com/Optimum-Nutrition-100-Whey-Gold-Standard-Double-Rich…

It mixes really well , tastes good and is affordable. Nice addition to your daily meal selection.

I like the vanilla flavor the best ( each to their own )....but honestly , if you get enough protein in your diet naturally with foods , it is 10X better. I eat a bunch of chicken , Salmon , Tuna , ect because it's high protein , low fat and there really isn't anything on the planet that can compete with it. Depending on your weight , workout schedule , riding schedule and so forth.....you just set a goal of how many grams you need / want to put into your body before , during and after the riding , racing and training seasons. I myself during the hard riding and exercise season will down about 150grams per day along with my other meals. ( total of about 150grams ) sometimes a little more , sometimes a little less. And if I stick religiously to that......The improvements it can make are incredible.

Basic knowledge......we all learned this stuff in like JR high that protein is what helps rebuild muscle. But most people have forgotten how simple it really can be. It just works!

Exactly! The three most important things to getting in shape......

Exercise
rest
Nutrition

You can do the first two and if you eat like crap , don't get enough sleep.......it's not doing much. The nutrition is probably the most important out of the 3 I listed. Without proper nutrition......your body just can't rebuild itself properly.

Just something also to include, but pound for pound Turkey is one of the most efficient meats you can eat in comparison to chicken, salmon, tuna, etc when looking at protein content to lack of fat per pound of meat. It's very healthy. I'm also a big believe that when taken in moderation, there's nothing wrong with a nice cut of lean filet mignon. Some people are anti-red meat, but in reality there's nothing wrong with it when consumed in moderation (this has been proven for centuries).

Get yourself one of those small cup blenders and add 1 banana, 2 big scoops of peanut butter, crushed ice, and milk. Blend it all together and enjoy. All natural and full of great protein and other essentials.

First off, don't buy protien for the taste. Buy it for the results. Go to the vitamin shop or GNC or some vitamin shop and talk to the about what your diet is and what you want to achieve.

While Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey is one of the best quality protein powders in the fitness industry, and does have everything mentioned above, it does have a BCAA called Arginine in it.
Arginine causes an increase in nitric oxide production in your muscles which leads to "better pumps," and more blood reaching the muscles and better protein synthesis because of this.
While this is excellent for muscle growth and results in the gym, I found that this causes a fair amount of ARM PUMP, my first few motos on the track while I supplemented this.
When I switched to a powder without Arginine, I was arm pump free from the get go.
A pump in the gym is no different than arm pump in your forearms on the track.
Food for thought...

NO WHEY!! Just eat a banana and paint your finger nails. But what do I know. Ingesting man made synthetic bull crap into your body can do nothing good for you.. do some more push ups and take a big poop and eat healthy.

Not all protein powders are created equal - muscle milk is junk (heavy metals, sugars,). Ryno offers a very clean protein - I recommend it.

I also recommend the following:

I personally use a vegan protein.

The best source of protein for the average guy is a nice glass of chocolate milk. The average guy can get all the protein his body needs with a proper diet.

Don't buy into the protein drink hype, most of it is over priced piss.

I don't buy it for just the taste , as I mentioned I tried numerous brands......The Gold Standard doesn't only work the best out of all the ones I tried...it just so happens to taste the best. If that makes more sense. Sorry if I typed it up that way.

TbonesPop.....I forgot to add turkey to my list....but yes you are 100% correct. I eat that as well. I do occasionally eat red meat but not all that much. But yes , I enjoy a big ol' juicy Ribeye steak ever now and then. Actually cooking up two tomorrow night for me and my girl.

I cut milk out of my diet almost 2yrs ago....and I have never felt better. I cut a lot of my dairy products out of my diet as well ( still use some in moderation like ice cream , cottage cheese , cheddar and so forth ) But not to much.

Some people work better without dairy, some are good with it. You can use soy milk and get the same protein.

I know you're one of those guys who is a nutrition guru of sorts, ever try kefir milk? Great for the digestive track and immune system.

Not all proteins are created equal. every protein drink has its own additives, some are good, some are bad. Plus theres several types of protein out there too that do different things and are better to take at different times/. .

They're plenty of bad sources of protein out there and thats what most will get from a chain store. You want a good clean natural protein that absorbs good and doesn't give you digestive discomfort with additives.

I myself use the Ryno Power protein. I am an average b rider that motos a few times a month. I also train muay thai and jiu jisu so I am pretty demanding on my body. I was referred to ryno power by a friend who uses it and swears by it. I also noticed a significant difference when taking not only the protein power but the other supplements they offer as well. They offer great stuff for before during and after your motos or workouts. I hope this was helpful!

I would really like to try and cut out dairy and see how I feel but I have an addiction to milk. I am going to give it a try. I just told my wife that and she laughed at me. She knows I love it.

As far as muscle repair goes , when buying protein check the leucine content of the particular protein you wanna buy, if it does not mention leucine content stay away

Whey protein or Whey protein isolate are your best options , you can als get the hydrolyzed Whey but research has shown it isn't worth the extra money

All the other types of protein, vegan, soy whatever are considerd lower grade protein because leucine content is lower
So you need more for the same result, and the result is muscle protein synthesis, ( growth and repair muscle tissue)
Protein is also the most thermodynamic macronutrient you can consume ( lot's of calories burend of as heat)

Muscle protein synthesis is sparked by leucine
Do a little research on the subject

OW and too much protein too frequent, will cause a refractory response , so more is NOT better, proven by research

Laugh all you want, its 100% truth and any trainer that knows anything about proper diet wil trll You the same thing.

Unless you're a serious endurance athlete or a serious about body building, protein drinks are only good for producing expensive smelly pee.

Ever wonder why your pee stinks after you drink a protein drink?

Hammer's website has a great section explaining the benefits of different types of proteins. Soy is a great all-around protein with proven health benefits. Whey is the best for a post-exercise drink and recovery.

The anti dairy thing is retarded...where is all your whey protein coming from ...oh...that's right milk!!!!

Stay away from reduced fat anything, fat is flavor, fat is satiating (you can eat less and feel full... Key part was eat less) if they remove fat they replace it with a lot of things with long names and usually tons of sugar!!!!! If you think I'm wrong when did the western worlds obesity rate skyrocket.... That's right during the fat free craze started in the late 70s and 80s!... Just think about it, low fat equals high sugar!

The anti red meat is misguided...It's the perfect protein full of all your amino acids naturally, super high in creatine and more protein per gram... I didn't say eat a rib eye every night, although that would be delicious!!!!

L-Arginine does not cause arm pump, poor riding technique does! Nitric oxide relaxes your arteries and improves your cardio vascular capacity, beets do this naturally.... Most endurance athletes are super supplementing with NO...Google it!

Basically try to eat things with a single ingredient and you will be fine, loose unnessary weight and just feel better all around!

Anyway back to the protein powder thing, don't buy into the marketing hype that all the body building magazines push as far as the protein powders, don't think that consuming large amounts of protein powders will make you look like the professional body builder in the ad thay are trying to sell you something.

Ryno power has been my answer to this question for the last 2 years now. I am a pro level quadcross racer in the northwest and it has made a huge difference to my game. I know what you're all thinking right now. "he's just a tard cart racer what does he know?" Well I know this. I also spend plenty of time on 2 wheels and it takes a high level of fitness to perform at the top in any sport. Post workout and post moto recovery times are dramatically decreases with rynopower and it is made from all that fancy organic non GMO stuff that is healthy for you in reasons I can't explain. This is also one of the very few proteins that doesn't give at least me a stomach feeling bloated after consuming it and I can only imagine it is due to the lack of fillers to make you think you're getting more for your money by having a 10 lb tub of fluff ingredients. RP is also a small company that has great customer service. I place my orders monday and it shows up no later than thursday. It also makes a difference to me knowing that the owner/ founder of the company is a well respected and accomplished champion in the sport and not some juiced up bodybuilder.
