Just trying to get a fair price on what these are going for and what you guys would offer for this particular one. I've not had a chance to look at it in person yet unfortunately.

Well the guy obviously dosnt know how to maintain a bike, evident by the front brake line routing, clutch lever and general shitty condition.
I would ride it, go thru all the gears and if those two things check out, I'd offer $1000, and maybe go as high as 12 if it ran and shifted good.
Your looking at putting atleast $1200 into that bike just to bring it up to a decent condition. Atleast.

Thanks fellas. Especially your two cents spodes Tongue

Well I just got this picture of the cylinder from him. Big red flag. At least the guy is being honest about everything and the condition of the bike.

That thing is a dog with fleas !!! Why would anyone ever feel the need to do that to the frame ??? Still might be worth picking up if you could get it cheap. 500's have been fetching BIG dollars here in Aus over the last few years !!

Yeah, the engine alone would be worth a few thousand (not with that cylinder though).

Unless using it for a parts bike or glutten for punishment stay far away...$500 would be my max offer and that would be if I really wanted it.

That's what I was thinking as well yak, $500 max. But then, do I really want it for even that amount? I don't know.

What's a cylinder run these days? How readily available are they?

On a bro scale of 1 to 10, a black-plastic'd 500 is an 11. That alone should predict that cylinder. I wouldn't touch it.

It does look pretty beat up, and I'd love to know the story on the cylinder hatchet job, but I'd still buy it. Those things aren't getting any cheaper, and if it does shift and run okay, scoop it. Shit, you could part it out and make money, if you stole it for the right price. I'd buy it in a heartbeat, if I was a whole lot closer.

Friend of mine just bought a really clean 2000 for 1300 and the guy threw in all his gear gas can and toolbox full of metric tools. Has a brand new FMF gnarly pipe too. So yes I'll say 500$ tops.

There are quite a few 500s out there without motors ,after the engines are swiped for various types of projects. Every thing else on a 500 can be found cheap from those dumping the rollers. $500 would be the outer limit, if you really want it,

$ 500 in cash if it runs.

stories of the pro racer that raced it can add $ 1000,

If i had CR 500 in my garage, I would pay someone to take it from me. I enjoy riding my 2015 rmz 250 so damn much, why would anybody put money into anything else besides a new bike?

LOL Kid , it would be a waste of time to explain the difference between a 500 and your 250 4 banger.

That poor bike needs to be given a proper burial.

Imagine the inside of that guys house.. All I can see are painted toenails around the carpet and nasty dishes from last year that never got cleaned still in the sink.. We should donate that bike to Tony Alessi.. That's about his level anyway...
