GEICO Honda adds Stewart to 2015 250SX West team

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Nov. 5) -- With the start of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series quickly approaching, the vaunted GEICO Honda team has added Malcolm Stewart to its 250SX West lineup.

Stewart ended last year's 250SX West action in sixth place with three podium results and just one finish outside the top 10, showing he has the skills it takes to be a winner at the professional level.

"I'm excited for this opportunity," Stewart said. "Obviously, the GEICO Honda team is a top-tier group that is always in contention. I think my previous experience in the 250 class, especially in 250SX West, will help make this transition easier and get us off to a fast start.

"I'm hoping to start the year off strong and get the results I think we are capable of achieving."

GEICO Honda team manager and past series champion Mike LaRocco feels the addition of Stewart to the team will give an added veteran boost to the entire Supercross season, not just the West races.

"We like to put our best foot forward on the West Coast," LaRocco said. "Not only is the majority of the industry located in this region but the West riders kind of dictate the rest of the racing. The other riders really get to build some momentum off the West guys if they're running well, and that's what we like to try to ensure.

"Running in both the 450 and 250 classes, we like to keep a good balance of experienced riders and rookies on the team. We think Malcolm will help bring that balance. The kid's got speed and hopefully, in the right environment, we can get some podium results out of him."

Stewart will make his debut with the team Jan. 3 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif.

Good for him!

If there is a bike with enough motor for Mookie too, the Geico bike seems to be pretty quick the last few years.

Great to hear that he was able to secure a ride but I was hoping he'd be able to ride the big bike some.

Surprised they didn't put him on a 450. He's been riding/testing a 450 all of 2014, seems like it would be an easier transition. I understand the budgetary problems though, that's likely the reason IMO. Pumped no matter what tho, although he hinted at riding a 150 if he didn't ink a deal, so part of me had my fingers crossed.

Stoked for Mookie, far too talented to have to be doing it on his own coin.

Hopefully he can sort out a 450 for the Outdoors, and even the East Coast rounds.

Thats awesome for both Geico and Malcolm.

But, lets pick the P.R. apart shall we.

"GEICO Honda team manager and past series champion Mike LaRocco..."

I'm drawing a blank...what sx series did Mike win?

Get some podium results out of him??? Why not some wins and perhaps a championship? I think hes capable, Mikes apparently not so optimistic I guess.

Further breaking this down and WHAT AN AWESOME/SMART signing this was by Geico Honda....Malcolm is easily better then 3/4's of the current team...in fact it could be argued that perhaps hes equal to Bogle in SX as Bogles championship came last year in an injury depleted East field and Malcolm got Podiums in the much tougher West.

If they got him cheap, like I bet they did...best signing of the off-season!

Let's break down your post: it doesn't technically state he won a sx championship. I'm assuming they are talking about his outdoor titles. Does it really bother you enough that you had to focus on that?

It will be interesting to see what they do with him on the east coast. Perhaps some 450 rides? Also for outdoors, I can't see him being on anything but a 450, so I'm wondering if this west deal is sort of a try out to see if they'll keep him for outdoors.

Good for him, was hoping he could find something on the big bikes. They are the ones paying the bills but he needs to be on a big bike.

We will probably never see his full potential unless he steps up his training, gets his weight and endurance in check, and gets on a 450 full time. Just my opinion.

Im stoked Mookie got such a good ride this late in the game, they must've gotten him pretty cheap which isnt such a bad thing since the Stewarts are VERY well off but the 250 ride just baffles me, he is too big for a 250 hopefully they put him on a 450 when they go east.

As for the 450 thing going east, he wouldnt even need a Works CRF450 he proved he can ride a production based Honda 450 VERY well so I hope they do put him on a 450 at some point

This is just a crackpot theory but maybe one of Geico's riders has gotten hurt or one of their rookies just isnt ready to ride west coast and they needed to fill a spot bec yes they didnt mention outdoors. A signing like this with a team like Geico seems a little peculiar this late in the game especially on a 250 BUT im stoked Mookie got a ride,

I wonder if they will let him wear SeVen?

FC has a team gear deal for the 250 riders. So he should be wearing Alias/6D/100%/Alpine-Stars like everyone else on the 250 team.
