Haha no. I am just a Weld Engineer that handles the body construction. It should be a good seller though and built in KC. There will be more engine options in the coming years and a 10 speed auto trans in 2 years.

My brother is in the engine development lab for Ford and has been doing alot of testing with different setups. The additional engines I believe will be for the heavier duty versions of them.

The transits are rear wheel drive. The big ones are pretty roomy, I just don't care much for the typical Ford short WB and extended back. I don't really give two shits if a vehicle it's fwd or rwd, learn how to drive. The promasters are lower due to the absence off a driveshaft, which is nice. Not super long though

Are they keeping the 5.4 triton , I have owned over 100 ford vans in my fleet and by far that was the best motor ever built , every van or pick up I got over 300 k out off them

5.4 is long gone. They have a 6.2 they will use for a while too. For the transit it will be a lot of turbo'd v-6's.

Well ecoboosts have been pretty good in 4 and 6's so far. The turbo'd motors have more torque and delivered at lower RPM's then the 5.4's and 4.6's. Plus more fuel efficient.

The econoline was good but super antiquated. I have a engineer I work with that started his career in '84 at Ford and did the revamp on them and now he is doing them again 30 years later on the cab chassis. So it is time for a change. Lol

I think the Transit is nice for what it is. The medium high roof would be cool. I priced one out on the Ford website and it came to almost $40k. A lil too rich for me to consider.

I paid $16K for my van (used w/40k miles). It was like new inside and out. I run one of the rear bench seat (seats 5 total) and can still fit 2-3 bikes in the back. If I need more than that, I'll pull a trailer. I like that it doesn't look so much like a FedEx truck.

Back in late May, our last van decided to blow up right before a month long moto-expedition. Number 1 choice was a new Transit and the local Ford dealer was all talk when it came to getting us one. Turns out there was no way to get one in time and no for sure date on when one would be available. So we picked up a ProMaster 159WB EXT instead.

It's got about 10k miles on it so far and I really like it. There's some small problems but IMO it's a really comfortable van to drive and works well. If money wasn't an issue though, I'd pick the Mercedes Sprinter anyday though...

What kills the Mercedes is the only engine choice is a diesel. While most people will probably argue that isn't a bad thing, new diesels are overly complicated due to the emissions. The Bluetec, Adblue, DEF system, call it what you want is a nightmare. When it fails, and it does ALOT, the truck is disabled. Plus the Mercedes is very very sensitive to bio diesel. Anything over 5% it destroys the fuel system. Certain parts of the country it is hard to avoid a higher content of bio and the customers have nothing but problems that are not covered under warranty, very expensive problems!

Have any photos of the inside? Always interested in how everyone sets their vans up. I have a 2005 E-250 with quite a bit of life left, but the new vans coming out are impressive. As mentioned above I've heard the Sprinters can be an expensive headache, but saw they were coming out with 4WD for 2015. Would be nice for colder climates. I wouldn't mind having a van be the daily driver, but prefer to have something with 4WD too.

Yep, I've seen a few at dealers around here. A search on autotrader.com brings up quite a few.

Thanks Trig331, i will be in the market for one in a few months. The Sprinter is nice, but expensive and all the horror stories are a little concerning. The Ford seems perfect for me

We haven't done much to the inside yet, just mounted some wheel chocks to the floor. Once the summer is done, the plan is to put in a partition with a bunk hanging into the garage portion. The PMs are cool because there is so much room inside. I'm 6' 2" and I can lay down horizontal and I just barely touch my head and feet against the wall. Sleeping horizontal will be fine in this thing. Here's a picture loaded up for a month of traveling. We put in a recliner in for the 2nd row seating, it was the bees knees for roadtrippin'.

We also have an '03 Sprinter that is partially built into a moto-van. The plan was to use the PM and Sprinter for a few years and then when the are really tired, replace them with a new Transit/Sprinter. Vans are so sick...

UPS tried using sprinters in 03 they ordered a lot of them. they quickly fell apart and couldn't keep them on the road. after witnessing that there is no way I would buy one.
