Guys, I'm starting on a 2003 CR 125 build. I will update with pictures periodically until I am finished. Hoping to have everything done in about a month.

The frame closest is the one I'm building. That's how I bought it... A basket of parts, and a chassis with some parts left on it.

Here's the bottom end of the motor and some misc. parts. The cases were powder coated cherry metallic red. I will be splitting the cases, stripping, and polishing them. As well as going through all bearings/ seals, and throwing new crank bearings in it.

6-speed transmission from a 1997 that will be going in. The cylinder/ head was just shipped to Eric Gorr to become a 134cc.

Much more to come. I'll keep everyone posted with updates.

As of now id like to thank Aktiv Motocross Graphics for the kit they are designing, and Advanced Coating Solutions in Fredericksburg for any Powdercoating work that will be done on the bike.

I've been looking for one, trying to stay on a budget lol. Got a call from Eric Gorr today.. Originally I was just boring the cylinder and re-plating... by the end of the conversation I went with the full port job for Mid-top. There goes part of my budget!

I thought for the 500.00 you get bore, plating, head mod,PV, mod and complete too end. Either way it will be worth it. I have 2 cr 125s i have a stock with the kehin set up and an fmf fatty and I have a mod with a 95 cylinder that runs a dome piston a pro circuit pipe. I actually have found my self on the stock bike lately. I guess because it doesn't have to run on full race gas. Either way no matter what you end up going with it's going to be great for you. The showa set up you are gonna enjoy a lot. Looking forward to your build.

Splitting the cases this weekend. It has a Wiseco crank in it that seems good.. While I am in there I will at least change the crank bearings.

How does everyone feel about Wiseco cranks? Should I just get OEM or hot rods?

Also, it will now be 134cc so is balancing the crank a necessity, a good idea, or no big deal? Any input will help.

Wiseco and hot rods all junk. Go with 2007 OEM crank. Balancing the crank will not be necassary. Do you know who makes that frame guard that you have on there?

Seems like that's the general thought when it comes to their crank. I'm not going to chance it, I'll get OEM.

The frame guard is full custom.

I'll have to find out who's bike it was. I know he was a local MD pro, pretty sure he scored points back in the early 00's. The guard is cool. Custom tabs welded to the frame, then the guard bolts on.

Well I got this far today. Waiting on a case splitter, then I'll get it tore all the way down. In the bottom left, there is a pin sticking out. Where the pin comes out it looks like there used to be more to the case than there is now, due to rough casting showing. In the second picture I'll zoom in on it.

Anyone else think it looks broken? Looks like I'll have to get a whole right side case...

Yeah, it does. Looks like originally there was about A 1/4 inch lip that stuck out. It didn't seem to have anything resting on it, so I'm trying to figure out what it actually did.

Anyone who knows a good route for me to take, that would be awesome. Wasn't expecting this.

I guess my question is, does this broken piece matter?

Don't get me wrong, I want to build this bike RIGHT. When I look at the pictures where the shift fork, and everything is still in the cases though, it looks as though nothing even rides on this area. I would imagine that it broke when a bunch of stuff was floating around in the tranny (a clutch disc broke). Does anyone know if it is a crucial part to the case, or not? I found a side case on ebay, but I don't want to buy anything until I know if my case is salvageable.

Anyone have an answer for this guy?

You could take it to a machine shop. Have them weld it and machine it. Although, you would really would have to have another case half to reference, so what's the point.

If it was my bike, I would find another case half.

Wiseco cranks are total junk, for sure.

Tried one in my kid's '00 CR an it lasted less than an hour. I replaced the worn stock rod with an IMS I bought on ebay for $30 and it has been great (although I don't recommend rebuilding a Honda crank to anyone without access to a machine shop-it was a PAIN!).

I will be interested in this build. I think that with my kids all gone to college, I may send the head off to Gorr for the 134 treatment. I'll let you do all the testing for me first.

i had a similar breakage on a vintage cr 250 i restored, when i taped out a bent shift shaft for replacement the bent shaft broke the case just like your case but on the left side inner case, i had the broken piece, had it welded & spent alot of time with a die grinder to get the shift shaft spring to fit correctly. my bike was a vintage 74 elsinore so, cases were scarce, the repair cost 50$. imo that piece did not break from floating debris. likely brkon when someone tried to remove the pin holding the sopring. i would remove/insect that pin to see if it is bent. seeing how you wanr to do this the right way i would buy another case if price is reasonable, should be, lots of cr 125"s around, look on bright side, you wont have to remove powdercoating on 1 case half!

Well, got the cases split today. Basically everything inside is destroyed. A bearing looks to have disintegrated, tearing up all the gearing, and the inside of the left case.

I ordered a right case earlier today, looking for a left one now. Good thing I'm turning this into a 6 speed, because these 5- speed gears are trashed!

If you haven't started buying cases and cylinder yet, you may be better off buying a running one on eBay and putting 200 into a rebuild

I don't want to do that, I want this thing done right. Fully refurbished.

I already had a cylinder and head that I sent out for bore, plating, porting, and head mod. I had planned on throwing a new crank, and the 6 speed tranny in it anyway. Now I'll end up with all new seals and bearings too... Basically a new motor.

With the money I'm putting in this bike I don't want to grab a used bottom end, with who knows how many hours on it. If I start from scratch, at least I know it's new.

Well I ended up going with a Pro-X crank since it is as close to OEM as you can get, without actually buying OEM. I couldn't beat the price as Wiseco has great rider support, and carries Pro-X.

I also went to the local Honda dealership, Fredericksburg Motorsports, and ordered EVERY bearing, seal, and gasket (all OEM) for the bottom end. I think it ended up being over 20 individual items.

As soon as my new cases come in I'll be able to get this thing going. Unfortunately I'll be in San Diego for the week during a work conference, so I won't get anything done.

Hopefully it works out for you. I would personally pull the top end down about every 5 hours or so and check it. Just to be on the safe side.

It should go good. The bike will have new cases, every bearing new, every seal new, new 6-speed gearing in perfect shape, new crank, cylinder has just been re-finished and bored, new clutch basket and clutch kit. The only thing that won't be new is the inner clutch hub, and it looks perfect.

I will be putting an hour meter on the bike and plan on tearing it down every 4-6 hrs for a ring anyway. I'm a 205lb B rider, so the bike is going to be struggling, that's for sure.
