Anybody know what it takes to get an Outdoor National at your track? And if you had to build the facility would it even be worth it?

From what I can tell money, luck, time and money, then some more money. Too big of a gamble to say it would be worth it. The odds of getting a national and paying for the expense with that national is probably a long turn around.

And location, location, location. Roads in and out, town infrastructure, parking for 20k people, etc etc.

There are quite a few tracks that have national caliber layouts, but can barely handle parking for a big amateur weekend (Baja Mx here in Michigan)

Talk to some of the promoters and see how they did it. I believe you will find most of them had a track first and either met, or were willing to meet, the requirements for amenities, parking, access, and so forth. They also happen to be in an area of the country that has sufficient population to support a track.

Most of the promoters I know or know about have long ties to mx racing and have established a track record.

First you would need one of the current venues to give up (sell?) their national. Then you would have to find a location with proper access. Then you would dump a boat load of money into the track and infrastructure. Then, you would need big crowds and a long enough contract with MX Sports to recoup your initial investment. Worth it? For Red Bud, I would say yes. For Lake Elsinore, probably not.

Is DC considering this when it gets completed?

This will offer more than simply MX....

We currently have one of, if not the best track in the state. Just not enough parking, we barely have enough to hold a big local state race. Boss man told me to see what it takes to get a National and i said we dont have the facilty. He said find out what it takes and he will build the facility. I know Freestone had their race scheduled before they even had a track built, i think Utah was the same way

Have amazing amenities and you can have a track deal done before you ever even move an ounce of dirt or even have a track design.

Look yourself in the mirror and ask am i doing this for the sport or for myself. If its for the sport have at it and start going to the nationals and talk to DC and John Ayres and all of the people who make it happen. Oh and the first few years I would plan to lose a few dollars. But if you get the right crew and the right person to work on the track and other aspects of a race then keep pushing down the road. Look at what you have for parking and roads going in and out and Pro pit parking. Then there is the matter of fencing the track safely. Do you have camping? are you holding Amatuer Racing, it helps bring in extra cash and do you have the people who have done it before to help you the first couple years to help you. If your doing this for the reason of making money forget it. If your doing it for the sport, then give all your money to someone to run it for you until your up to speed. Is it easy, no never and takes years to get it right, many tracks have done it for several years with no break and its still a 24/7 for the weeks leading up to it. Give it a try and enjoy.

I'd take up a addiction to blow and strippers, loose about the same amount of money but least it would be fun.

Each would have the same chance at getting a national.

A national calibre track, a big ass parking lot for teams and personnel, and spectator area catering to 30K people, infrastructure for the event staff and not being too close to another national.

I'd imagine if you're in the South East you stand a good chance if you've got all those things.

Tell the boss man the first thing he ought to do when he's 's serious is to hire someone who, when asked to find out what it takes to get a national, asks the people who run the nationals rather than floating it on a message board.

If you want the teams on board...build it within sight of a major airport....on airport property would really make them happy.Silly

Which one would they get rid of to make room?

Somewhere hilly by a major interstate... somewhere thats has dirt thats not like an atom bomb test site.

Use Colorado as a model. Great track, major airport and thousands of hotel rooms within 30 minutes of the track, plenty of parking.

I think a national back in Texas would be great. Call me biased because I live and work here, but this is my opinion on what the new National venue should be Smile

The main track is 1.7 miles long with the option to easily extend it. We are on 170+ acres, can accommodate 35,000, best dirt in Texas with elevation changes, plumbing, showers, pavilion, cafe, fully stocked shop, 8 different tracks, and full backing from the local city officials.
Regardless of what happens, I would highly recommend anyone here coming and checking us out at Cycle Ranch. Doug Henry himself was quoted as saying that we have the nicest moto facility he's ever seen anywhere. Give me a holler if any of you guys are ever in Central Texas!

I've never been to Texas let alone this location, but that place looks like MX heaven.

Dirt looks nice, reminds me of parts of Georgia. red clay

track looks great (for the rider), the powers that be want something in a valley.

people can just sit on a hill from anywhere & look down in the Valley. plus the bikes come up near you above the valley.

Where in Muskogee Ok is there a track that would be considered national caliber? IMO, we have never been to ANY track in Ok that can hold a candle to Freestone and they no longer host a national.

Oh it's good views of the track that you want? We do alright! Smile

Mind you, the track is not prepped or rain washed in a few of the pictures.
Our covered grand stands are so close to the action that I have to scrape all the dirt off the spectator area right in front of the stands after every race and practice. I have to admit I'm pretty fortunate to live out here. We would love to see some of you guys make the trip to Cycle Ranch. We have camping options, a couple of nice furnished cabins to rent, RV hookups, you name it.
