He stays paralysed according to the doctor. Full recovery of the spinal cord is not possible. Sad

What does the picture actually tell? Is it a rehab excercise or does it mean he actually has regained some feeling in his lower body. I'm lucky enough to not know very much about rehab after being paralyzed. I'm hoping for a miracle like everybody else of course. Keep fighting Joel!

The things on his legs keep them straight for him. He could probably walk on canes and swing his legs thru in time.

When I broke my neck I. Was paralyzed from neck down.

I scorpioned in,straight on the head,legs up. For days it felt like my legs were above my head in a twist even though I was looking right at them in the hospital bed. I guess it was the last signal sent to my brain.I got lucky and stumbled out of the hospital a week later.

Man,I'm gutted for the guy,it seems like no progress has been made in fixing the spine.

That must have been horrible, happy to hear it wasn't permanent in your case.

they need to stick with the stem cell research. from what ive read that will be key in getting people with these type of injuries fixed up

When it happened i knew I was paralyzed before I stopped rolling. On my back,head turned ,looking at my hand flopping without me doing it. Nothing moved and it felt like I was standing on my head.

Doc told me 99% die on spot the other 1% wither away. I made them discharge me and shuffled to the car.

2 days later I could not push the covers off me or raise a glass.

I called the doc and asked if I could start working out. I sat on the bed and just raised my arms,all day and got better slowly.

But,when I'd bend my head down if felt like a cattle prod was stuck in my back sending shock out my limbs.

One day building a loft in my barn I stood up and rammed my head into a rafter. After that the shock went away.

3 years later in 06 I had a deal to ride a yami but had my only panic attack the day i was picking it up.

In 08 I got a deal on a honda thru a new shop here,paid 10 cents for it to get it in my name and release liability.

Raced 2 years till shearing off my tib plateau.

Hillbilly with age comes a cage , I still ride but to get my racing fix it's nice to have that cage around you

What a shame the vast amounts of charity money raised for heart and cancer research aren't used to sort out this problem (and similar) instead. Quality of of life wins out for me over length of life.

52 ,I started racing in 1974.. The neck was traumatic for sure ,laying there in the dirt of my own track ,heli ride and all.

Funny part of the neck break,

When the emt's got here they would let dad and wade help carry me to the meat wagon thru slime mud,they stumbled all around and almost dumped me. Then,going out my drive which is very steep they slam the brakes,my stretcher brakes loose and I slam head first into the front, I cuss telling them they are going to kill me.

Then,when loaded in the heli it was like the back of a vw beetle,they slam the door on my head,,lol.

I don't know if this sport makes people believe they can recover from impossible feats or if it just attracts people that think that way to begin with. But there have been some miracle recoveries and I have no doubt that Roelants will continuously improve.
