BUT,
Conversation about the fastest Everts ever came up at Lierop and we agreed it must have been '95, '96,'97 when Everts was about 24 years old that he was at his peak speedwise.
We'll never know but I would love to see the Everts from his Honda 2 stroke days ('96 - '97) agianst RC in his Honda 2 stroke days ('02-'03).
Not too sure about RC winning that one, au contraire.
Game on..
You've hit the nail on the head.
No one could beat Everts in his prime, just like no one could beat RC in his prime.
Throw in Johhny O or Smets or even JBS
It's very rare nowadays to see the top rider compete at his peak against his opposition at their peak.
Reed vs RC in SX is as close as we've seen for years
Maybe Fro vs MC
I dont believe they races each other in their prime and RC never came to Leirop or rode matterly... so its hard to gauge. On a sand track like Lierop I can't see RC beating Everts if he was 33 or 23 .tho On a US track RC would have won over a neutral World GP series Everts thinks he could have beaten him but it would have been tight.
Everts has more MXDN wins tho and thats the only series they both competed in
If you're considering only MX/SX, then I'd have to agree with you.
First off all let me say that i don't care who would've won it if they were to ride an entire series against eachother. They were both superman and let just keep it at that.
And secondly... i'm so tired of the Florida sand thing. The sand in Florida is nothing compared the sand tracks in Holland and north-east Belgium (Lommel and Lierop for instance). I have seen RC ride in Lommel back in 2003. It was only practise but ok. RC was flying but if he was to race against Stefan Everts on that track no way in the world he would've won it. Very strange that after that practise session team USA decided not to enter the 2004 MxdN in Lierop.
If you don't believe me that's fine with me. Just ask some guys that have raced on both sides of the pond. Chuck Sun, Sean Hamblin or Zach Osborne for instance. Or maybe Jacob Saylor who wrote a great blog about the GP series on his website : Jacobs Blog
These were his exact words : "The legendary sand tracks put to shame anything I have contested before. The many months in Florida riding places like Croom and Dade City could hardly prepare you for bottomless sands of Lommel or Leirop. "
This was posted here before so i hoped you guys would finally realize now what tracks teh FIM hosts their GP's on. It's a pety that the AMA avoids tracks like that.

On any given day, someone might beat RC (though it was rare)...but, when it came to winning championships, RC was the man more than any other.
but still there both the greatest of all time in the own different ways.
