Jesus Christ superstar. I don't have anything good to say, so like my parents taught me I'll keep my mouth shut lol.
We have heard a lot of comments like these over the last few weeks so I am going to break it done to simple economics and marketing. I am not singling you out 4stroke4DWIN either just using as example.

People in general are resistant to change and this is a drastic change to the motorcycles you are use to seeing for sure. However, it costs money to go racing and at the Pro level it is extremely expensive. How do you get money to go racing if you don't have it? Sponsors! For the exception of the Gieco Honda, you can even read the sponsors on a motocross bike when it flashes across your television set. If I owned a company I would not spend my marketing budget for something you cant even see.
Our bike stands out with Slater Skins, you know Blue Buffalo is our sponsor. This makes perfect sense to me even though some feel it looks different. Simply put it is marketing, and I truly hope that this might change how big corporate and outside sponsors look at the marketing opportunities of our sport. Throw more money in and give more kids like mine an opportunity to make a living as a professional mx/sx racer than there are now. If we continue to think and do things the same way we are going to get the same results.
I respect those that disagree with me, but I feel very strongly that this could be an excellent way to attract more sponsors and money to our sport. Evidently, Blue Buffalo feels good enough about it to put their name on it and we truly appreciate it.

Very cool to see! I only buy blue buffalo for my chocolate lab...he loves the stuff. All the vets that I've talked to recommend it...unless they're peddling that really super super expensive food they sell at their office. I try to purchase any type of outside sponsors that support our sport...unless it's that red bull or mobster energy stuff, yuck, I'll have water thanks.

I hope he doesn't run into any problems and need to change, I don't know, anything on the bike? Don't get me wrong I hope it works. I don't see as much of an issue with the side skins but the one across the front is a no go.

While its not to my taste, at the same stage, good marketing approach doing this. If it wasn't for the controversial skins, how many people would have actually seen this bike?

As it is, this bike is plastered all over the interwebs getting people talking about the bike and Blue Buffalo, cant be a bad thing for a new sponsor hoping to get some brand recognition in return for there investment in our sport.

Well played marketing team!

Congratulations Jeff for a number of reasons....for thinking outside the box, for hooking up with Slater Skins and obviously the Blue Buffalo deal. I think you are right on the money for embarking on this path instead of following the rest of the sheep.

I sincerely wish you, Ryan, John Slater and the whole team the best of luck.

I know exactly what you are saying. I don't really see a problem with the shrouds, side panels and rear fender being one piece. I just can't get around the front plate/hand guard setup. Reminds me of a speedway bike. You gotta stand behind your product, and thanks for being top notch with your reply to me. Good luck!!

I'm confused about the product goal here. Is it to get all the race teams contracted to buy your plastics? I wouldn't think a local rider would buy them just for looks. Or is it to charge the sponsors for using the plastics for more advertising space. What direction are you trying to go. They only way I think it would trickle down to everyday Joe racer would be because they wanted their bike to look like a factory bike that used them.

I foresee problems with manufacturers and contingency money in somebody's future. Manufacturers like recognizable bikes that they sell on the showroom floor. To the passing eye you see blue buffalo but it's difficult to tell that it's a Honda.

Regarding the goal of the skins is to attract outside sponsors that recognize and appreciate the additional signage space the Slater Skins offer. John Slater has been working on this tirelessly and hopefully 2015 will be the second time his ship comes in. The first was the 3 million dollar Sobe deal in the 90s. BTW it took the Sobe marketing guy about a minute to "get it" when John was making his presentation. He interrupted John and said "how much?" John told him the price and it was a done deal just like that. That experience is very telling since when it comes to marketing you either "get it" or you don't.

John Slater's hands are understandably a bit full at the moment but I hope after Unadilla he will check in.

Sorry, but you're incorrect. Slater Skins is not the answer to more TV coverage.

As mentioned before, you can barely recognize the brand of bike here. The manufactures that are dumping huge dollars and R&D into this sport don't want something thats unrecognizable on the showroom floor.

Incorrect? motoman0 didn't say Slater Skins were the answer to more TV coverage....he said outside dollars are. Anyway we can bring in more outside dollars is a positive thing whether it is Slater Skins or a mainstream bio on Ryan Dungey.

Excellent point dean122 but Blue Buffalo isn't an OEM manufacturer and neither is Slater Skins or the Zimmers. Regardless what any of us thinks or feels about this the bottom line is Blue Buffalo is getting exposure at Unadilla and a privateer has money in his pocket plus getting a ton of exposure.

Congratulations to Zimmer Racing and Slater Skins for making history. First time in the 21st century a motorcycle with Slater Skins has competed in AMA National Lucas Oil MX sponsored by Red Bull series competition.

If memory serves correct Todd DeHoop on a HoT bike was the last person in the 20th century but maybe that was at a USGP at Unadilla. Nonetheless job well done gentlemen.

I spoke with John Slater briefly first thing this morning and he said GuyB had visited the Zimmer pits and checked out the bike. John took the opportunity to introduce himself. Glad you to got to meet John and thanks Steve for the taking the time to visit their pits.

On the thread title change what were other concerns why the Slater Skins would never work in MX? They worked swimmingly at Unadilla in two 30 plus two laps 450 motos.

I'm not a fan of the front end, but the side looks fine to me. Maybe just a little bit of tweaking so the front doesn't look so bulky, but I applaud them for stepping up and trying something new. Why so many people hate on every damn little thing is beyond me, why not just give it a try and see how it works over time? By looking at it, it looks like if a grip material was added it might be easier to grip the bike with your legs, so that could potentially be a selling point if true.

Better than a new thread every time. It's confusing as hell though.

I may be in the minority, but I love the look of the skins save for the front piece. If they make them for a 2000 kx250 I'll buy a set lol.

Rock - Why do you keep changing the damn thread title? Just to boost views?

Bike looked good, i agree, if outside money was the only thing flowing in they would demand this kind of real estate, but until the well of energy drinks and tires and power tools dries up no one will demand it and slater skins will have the same fate as before.

Seriously, I appreciate the sponsorship from your buddy, but I'm sickened by your constant attempts to portray yourself as an industry insider. There were actual press releases about it, RacerX posted something about it...just chill out and let it run it's course. I spun the T-handles for my buddy who went 16-16 in the 250's at 'Shougal who drove 22 hours in his van, didn't see making threads about it.

I like the look of the sides, but is think the hand guards/number plate piece looks bad. Ditch the front piece, keep the side Slater Skins and the bike would look awesome. It's great to see outside industries pulled into the sport and I think these Slater Skins can be a good thing.
