Lets narrow it down to 4 strokes owned my mere mortals , not pro raced bikes. My 13 YZ250F has 50 hours and seems as fresh as when I bought it new. Of course I maintain it well and it has new chain/sprockets, tires, grips etc. I also realize this bike is well known for its engine reliability. Hour wise, when should one think of replacing his bike before it gets really expensive i.e. motor rebuild.

Even a bottom end is just regular maintenance (If done correctly).
On my son's RM85 it was a ring every 5 hours, piston every 10.
One of my friends has a beautiful 05 YZ250 that has to have over 100 hours on the original piston. He rides it 90% of the time at 1/4 throttle, at under 5000 rpms. He will probably go one more riding season and then replace the piston. Put a local pro on that bike and it would likely grenade in 2 laps.
Matt Fisher has a VERY valid point though. Depends on how you ride it. I always tried to ride mine lower in the RPM's. Not a good idea on a 2 stroke that I have now.
