If you aren't an aggresive rider ( no shame in not being one ) then you may want to stay on the 4 banger. You have to stay on the throttle constantly, and don't have the luxury of messing ruining a corner and still make the next jump:
That being said if you do switch you will never go back. 2 strokes are so much more fun to have. The sounds, smell, everything
. The weight will be the first thing you notice. The first couple times you ride it you will almost feel like the bike floats.
Lastly you just can't beat the maintenance cost. I GRANDED my 03 RM 250 motor about 6 months ago. Top and bottom end with labor was under 700.
Anyone here who says they need the power of a 450 is full of shit. I would be willing to bet 99% of the mx world can't ride a 125 2 stroke to its fullest potential.
