2.4 INTRAVENOUS HYDRATION

At no time during the event may a rider receive any type of intravenous hydration, unless such hydration is deemed medically necessary by medical personnel as a result of an emergency medical situation (i.e., heat stroke) encountered by the rider during, or as a result of participating in, any practice, qualifier, moto race or other activity in the event.

I think you guys are honing into the wrong words in the rule.

Can Stewart really make the argument that an IV was "medically necessary" as a result of an "emergency medical situation" every weekend? Was James anticipating a medical emergency each race?

It's nearly impossible to prove that James was taking bags between motos but this situation looks absolutely horrible for him. Is hydration immediately after the race day is finished so important that he would hire and fly a nurse to every event?
After reading this thread, if they are serious about prohibiting IVs other than as provided for in the rule, they should probably add:

"No rider, team, or other self-procured IVs are permitted. Any administration of IVs for emergency medical situations shall be administered by medical personnel not associated with the rider or team. Any administration of IVs on the day of the event other than as provided for by this rule shall be deemed to be a violation of this rule regardless of the existence of an emergency medical situation."

Or something similar. If an IV is needed let an independent health care professional make that determination and do the administering of the IV.

Nobody thinks it's cool what he did, I don't know why you keep making that up. And as far as living in the past you are the one that keeps bringing up things that happened years ago.

There's one dynamic of Vital, and maybe it is life in general, that I truly can't stand - fanboys vs. haters. There is nothing wrong with having an objective opinion that may reflect negatively on a particular rider, but the haters take it that extra step. There is nothing wrong with having a favorite rider, but the fanboy has to turn off his common sense and thoughtlessly defend every time his rider steps in shit. Once these mental midgets start going at it, it is an endless circle that only resolves when someone is clicked. These groups are equally foolish, and annoying.

My common sense tells me why Stewart brings a personal nurse to each race, and it's not to administer post-race IV's. But, I don't necessarily look down on Stewart for doing what I assume the majority of his competition is doing. The timing is just unfortunate for him, on the heels of testing positive for a banned substance. The haters have low-hanging fruit to go on attack, and the fanboys have assembled at the front lines to defend with no regard for their perceived intelligence.

But nowhere in this thread is anyone saying he didn't get an IV between motos.
The fact is nobody knows for sure, and the way the rule is written leaves the possibility it is acceptable.

I haven't read through all 12 pages of this. I agree with most of what you wrote but would replace "negative opinion" in line 2 to "objective opinion". Why? Because we need objective opinions to have good conversation. Being negative is just that. Good conversation has all kinds of view points, that's what makes it good.

Obviously the nurse needs to be subpoenaed to testify before some sort of congressional sub committee so we can get to the bottom of this pronto.

I like how in the beginning at the thread when the OP started this, people were calling him a Moran & not creditable. Then, it's reported on the Pulpmx. Apparently the guy has some inside.

I didn't read the whole thread, did anything ever get resolved?!

The HangIVer Bar, in Tampa, Florida, is marketed as a new-age spa offering the latest in therapies.

“The concept is based on wellness, a modern wellness spa that allows people to get treatment for not just hangovers, but for acute illness,” said Dr. Uhuru Smith, an anesthesiologist who opened HangIVer this month.

Hydration therapy has been available in Las Vegas long enough for companies like “Hangover Heaven” to have treated some 20,000 customers on its bus.

In New York City, “The IV Doc” comes to you dispensing its cures during house calls. The company’s CEO and founder, Dr. Adam Nadelson, says most of his customers are seeking rehydration after a hard night of drinking.

“Fifty percent, I’d say, of our patients do come in for hangover relief, from dehydration from the night prior,” Nadelson said.

Patients like Mike Murphy swear by the treatments and say they would “absolutely” recommend them to friends.

Danny Bohrer, who turned to hydration therapy because he was feeling run down, says he felt an energy boost right away. He’s hoping that the treatments will also boost his abilities during basketball games with friends. “I hope so,” Bohrer said. “I need a little bit of help, probably.”

Critics say the IV treatments are just a gimmick.

“I think they’re a little silly,” said Dr. Mark Morocco, a professor of emergency medicine at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. “I can’t imagine why anyone would pay money to be stuck with a needle for therapy that’s no better than drinking chicken soup and taking Tylenol at home.”

And while the chances of a bad outcome are small, “there is a risk anytime you break the skin,” Morocco said, adding that those risks include infection or irritation of the vein.

This is very sad as it continues to unravel more and more. I stand by my statement, James should just go ahead and retire, before anymore damage is done to both his legacy and the sport. Seems all this stuff is catching up to him very quickly. I'd rather he bow out before all this blows sky high. The explosion is coming.... and fast! I'm not even sure it's avoidable at this point.

Keep in mind I'm a HUGE JS7 fan. This is just very ugly....

So when GuyB, JT$ and Matthes say something happened, you consider this "ZERO actual information" and "bullshit"?

I am not at all a Stewart hater but can't understand that reaction. But whatever...

From RacerX magazine September issue Racerhead:

47 pages amassed in the VitalMX thread titled "Just heard" concerning rumors of a failed drug test, before Yoshimura Suzuki and james Stewart's first press release was issued. At that point, the thread had been viewed 108,000 times.

James is just finishing up writing his tell all book on motocross and needs a bit of extra drama as he is about to exit the sport to push up sales. He will be rolling up to the book signing in his new Bentley paid for by a bunch of suckers….carry on.

Might as well start asking everyone when they stopped beating their wife........

Or does the fact that Ryan Dungey never issued a press release denying that he was the GSR (Gay Suzuki Rider) mean that that rumor was completely true?

Could be wrong, but didn't they all say that they heard something like this had happened? I haven't seen any of them make too much of a complete explanation of what happened, which would seem to say that they are all smart enough to realize that while the general gist of the "rumors" may be true, the exact details might not be quite right (i.e. what the nurse actually said).

Hadn't read that, so thanks for posting the excerpt. I had to laugh, but somehow felt smarter by association.

FWIW ... I believe James will put all this behind him and will win many more races before he puts his boots away for good. Not sure about titles, but certainly many more individual races.

Just to throw more fuel on the fire incase it hasn't been mentioned, the Asterisk Medical Unit provides free IVs after the races. Has to be a hell of a lot cheaper than hiring a nurse and flying her to the race each weekend.

"It can't be proven that he was taking it between motos, be we all know he was" - Matthes
Where did Steve say that?

That's the same type of logic used by the RV naysayers when discussing doping. I doubt Matthes would be willing to carry that train of thought over when discussing that topic.

I'm prescribed to adderall and take it daily.. My Rx bottle doesn't say adderall, it says AMPHETAMINE SALT. It'll give me dry mouth sometimes if I'm not drinking fluids for awhile but by no means would I say it makes me feel any more susceptible to becoming "dehydrated" when I ride or exert intense physical activity. Adderall is definitely a diuretic. Probably a different overall effect on different people, but I know I had to definitely cut down on the caffeine because of the bathroom trips after I started taking Ritalin and it didn't get better after switching to Adderall.

I still just don't understand how the hell this happened honestly. Is the Stewart camp really that clueless about the rules? Or do they just do what they want because they don't care? Stewart was gaining a lot of fans back with his attitude and the way he has been racing since he switched to Suzuki, and it's all crashing down now.
