JEFFREY HERLINGS #84 UPDATE...the parts he is bringing to unadilla..

I think the transition from gps to nationals is easier than vice versa as long as herlings charges the whole moto he'll be ok he's a sure bet for holeshot also

I think he's a sandbagger for racing MX2. Seems to brag a lot on twitter about his wins but has no balls to race MX1. I hope one of our boys smokes him.

I hope he brings his ear plugs when Cooper destroys the "Hollanders" on the podium.

Martin has a shot if he can start up front. But let's be honest, Martin lost whatever is was that he had at the beginning of the year. He's still doing great obviously, but he's not winning by 20+ seconds anymore. BB is clearly faster than all other AMA 250 riders at the moment but he can't buy a start. There is no way BB will beat JH if he doesn't get a good start. I'm really hoping they both get up front together because if they do it could be a battle for the ages.

I think BB can beat him on an American track anyday. After being lapped at Lommel I bet he´s keen on revenge. What would be better than to come from behind and pass him. US tracks don´t favor sand specialists.
I´m guessing Herlings would be lucky to get a 4th. On a GP track he would smoke the field though
I hope you're right. I'd love to see BB, JM and CW all beat him. Not because I don't like him, because I do. I think he's absolutely amazing but it's all about American pride Smile but I'm realistic too. Herlings can beat anyone anywhere. He's that good, but so are the other 3 I named. As DC said, it's possibly the most exciting news of the summer. I also don't see Herlings as just a sand specialist. He's amazing on every surface. He's just that much better in the sand than anyone else.

It's very hard to tell. It could go either way tbh.

On one hand Jeffrey is (in theory) quite capable of dominating the field by 20+ seconds imo. But like others here; I also wouldn't be surprised to see him riding around outside his comfort zone, struggling in 4th or 5th etc. It just depends on how quickly he can adjust. Riding press day is an absolute must! The more track time the better. If it rains and roughs up to 2012 levels, then that'll also play into his favour too.

Either way it's a lot of pressure and I hope that everyone (obviously this has zero chance of happening...) will tip their hats to him and respect his efforts regardless.

It's hard to tell how he'll do but if you took the top 10 in Europe and the top 10 in the USA, put them on the same USA track. Herlings would be the only Euro in the top 10. The rest of the MX2 riders are on a Sunday cruise. Not that I think the Euro MX2 riders aren't good but there's zero intensity compared to here. Which Roczen and Musquin found out when they got here.
Interesting concept of riders doing the other series,It might look like less intensity but the tracks don't usually lend to that style of racing,Cairoli said the Finland track at the weekend was the toughest so far this year, they can haul alright when the circuits suits them,

Hopefully we will see how a top 10 GP guy gets on when Ferris returns to the last rounds this year,I'm pretty sure he can make the cut

It will be a change for him to see a full gate for a change as well. Lappers and first turn with 42 people is alot different then 26 -30 people in the GP's. Also wouldn't doubt if you see MM25 really step up and CP377. I think he is fast no doubt but it wont be as easy passing 3-10th guys here as it is over in Europe. The intensity the whole moto may be a shock for him also from what he is used to the last few years.

You still consider Herlings a sand specialist?
Really?

yup. I think you interpreted it as saying he isn´t all that on other surfaces, which isn´t what implied. But yes, I reckon sand is where he really shines and can separate himself from everyone, even on US soil.

you have a point about the amount of riders he will be facing but in the GP's the 26-30 guys u see on the line are all GP regulars week in week out riding at that level apart from 1 or 2 no matter where they are in the world on that particular weekend. In the AMA u have got 20 or so who are regulars and then the rest are just made up of really good locals from around that particular part of the USA or slightly further. so yes u might have a more stacked field but the quality doesn't totally out way the GP's... PLUS here in the GP's the guys are used to running 35 plus 2 moto's, only this year its changed to 30 like the AMA races. so intensity isn't going to be a problem!

He's the best in sand but indeed not a sand only rider anymore. It's not the MX2 guys only he's beating on hardpack. He's been killing it in the MXGP (MX1) class in Belgian and Italian championships too.

Agreed, maybe a couple of years ago he was a specialist but think now its turning into any terrain that he is balls out scary fast. IMO that is in part to him maturing and (finally) growing up and realising what he can do and how good he could become, all that being said not sure about him staying in MX2 another year.

Speaking of Jeffrey and hardpack riding, this is one of my favourite practice vids ever (posted a while ago but still cool)...

I talked with him during Finnish GP for the first time and was surprised how nice and down to earth the kid was. I asked about Unadilla and he told that he is really excited to come over there, but they try to go there without too high expectations and he is sure that the US guys will be tough to beat. They expect that the biggest challenge will be get going right away from the first practice, since in GP's they have so much more time on track. To be ready for Unadilla they have changed the way they do things in races now and in Finland they already tried to ride the first practice same style than in US (first lap good speed then full speed). I haven't been fan of his, but I'm definitely rooting for the guy in Unadilla.

The guy is better than CP ever was,and he is a freak of nature.

With a good start he can win.
Well said!
Dont even think he will need a good start.

Cant wait to see this!

Best part part about the Euro's....their fans. Where else can you get a collage with techno music and hearts secretely inserted in there...somewhere

I hope he gets up on the podium with a ginormous Dr Seuss hat, revving a chain saw and starts groping the trophy girls. He's coming to Unadilla and I'm pretty excited, will be there to see it.. This is like AC or Everts coming for a visit

I would love to be at Unadilla to see his National debut.

One word I have seen a couple of times in this thread is the work "kid." In view of his age I will gladly take an enthusiastic kid over robot reading of a sponsor list but he really needs to watch the F bombs on TV.

Martin is still beating the rest of the field by about 20 seconds. The only difference is the first 2 round BB4 wasn't running that pace, now he seems healthier and is up there with Martin's pace.

Im curious what it is you guys think JH is going to get used too? The wfo version of Dilla we run now thats super easy by GP standards? Starting with 40 guys? Looks no different when you start up front Id think. The bike? LOL ok . The pace? Yeah he looks at every MXDN hes done that the pace bothers him... Keep waving the flag and yelling Merica! cause there's a butt whippin coming,

40 riders.. he rounds dutch/belgium series where they have even second line after first 40 guys at gate.
Can see him taking more pressure and doing simple mistakes but least he will make lot of passes if doesnt get good start or crashes. He is one of those guys who can pass people any track and any part of track.

IMO, Herlings is the FMOTP right now, his moto wins are 20 seconds faster than Cairoli's. No one can touch him in Europe, he can easily win over our boys hate to say but true!

I have to say that I will be very surprised if Jeffrey Herlings doesn't come a few days early if for no other reason than to acclimate himself a tad. I know the GP riders are "all about air travel," but to fly in Friday night, hit the rack and expect to be chipper at 6:00am and ready to take names and kick bu-tocks at 1:00, with America's best, just may be taking them lightly.
If he flies in on Friday and losses both Moto's, he deserves to, because he took them (U.S.) for less than they are. If he comes in a few days early, dials himself...and his bike in, the U.S. riders just might see the real Jeffrey Herlings. Win or Lose, it won't be an imposter of the real thing, is all I am saying!
I hope he comes prepared, for class warfare, as he has a target (#84) on his back, that may just find he, and his number, behind...
