Here's the part I don't get out of all that...

You'd pour a low-cost oil that you pay for into bottles of a sponsor's oil that you get for free?

This does go on all the time. Back in the early 70's when I was a team Husky rider the factory would use Hi-point but being sponsored by Pennzoil would set bottles of Pennz all over the pit area. The Hi-Point oil was kept behind the scenes. If they feel that the oil their using is superior to what they are being paid to run, they will use the superior oil. Logical to me.

Rotella is fine oil. Use it, and change it more often than you need to, for reasons noted above.
I would 100% disagree with this (the first sentence).

Lol. At the very end of the 2nd Muddy Creek 450 moto broadcast you could see Roczen's girlfriend pouring water into a Red Bull can, right on camera. Not that the majority didn't already know this went on but I thought it was funny. I wasn't shocked in the slightest but they probably had a talking to after that one. Another good one is when a rider takes a drink on the starting line from an empty can.

When you ask an opinion on a message board, you always get a million answers and it seems like there is no decisive or clear cut winner. With this question, the overwhelming majority are saying Rotella. That should tell you all you need to know.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that. I thought it was pretty funny too. You would think they would be a little more sneaky about it.

I use Rotella in the gear box and crank case of my CRF 450R and gearbox for my YZ 125. It makes it pretty simple to just buy a gallon jug and be able to use it for both bikes.

This...

Make sure its 15-40. The heavy weight oil doesn't have the extra lubricants that will enhance clutch wear in a wet clutch set up.

Rotella and e85 are the best things to happen to four stroke race motors since Doug Henry.

If you say so. I'd think that any energy drink manufacturer would understand that when one of their athletes comes off the track, that it might not be in their best interest to pound an energy drink. That's for the bros in front of the podium.

I also expect that Underalls didn't expect Sterling Marlin to wear their product back in the day (see photo below).

I'm guessing Mark Martin also wasn't popping Viagra every time he got in the car...at least I hope not.

i have a question for everyone using rotella. i read everywhere about people using either the regular rotella t that comes in the white jug or then rotella t6 (i believe) which im pretty sure is the full synthetic in the blue jug. what about the synthetic blend that comes in the grey jug? my menards carrys all 3 and the white and grey jug are both 12.97. id assume the synthetic blend would be a little better? or am a wrong. i use in 2 stroke trannys. thanks

About to start running rotella t in my RMZ 250 and YZ125... from what ive heard it will work great in both bikes... 1 question though, the bottle says 15w -40 not 15w40... are they the same things??
And it is the "Heavy duty diesel oil" rotella T right?

I'd like to see them just quit being disingenuous about the whole deal. Skip pouring water (or some other recovery drink. Gin?!...yes please Wink ) into the empty can. Or the drinking from an empty can on the starting line. Roczen did that before the 2nd 450 moto at Muddy Creek too. You can tell it was a fake gulp. No I don't have proof, I'm basing it on my spidey sense. Well that and neither him or Aldon would advocate drinking Redbull right before a 30+2 National Moto. They're not fooling most of us. What it does do is rub people the wrong way.

They could just do like Bubba and drink from a Redbull(or Monster or Rockstar) water bottle. I've got no issues with it. They're at least not trying to pull one over on us in that instance. Not that they or anyone cares about what I think. They have to pimp their sponsors. I, as do most, get that. But can they just stop with the hypocrisy already?

I'm often amused at how worked up people get over things like this. You know how much time I've ever spent worrying about this stuff? It's way less than zero. Smile

Motul give the flash point in there specs. 482f. Can't find any spec for rotella but the closest I could find on bobs oil site says around 410. I'll stick with the Motul thanks. It also said the rotella has a lot of magnesium that leads to build up and hot spots that may cause dentonation in motorcycles.
410F would be game over for the motor so that flash point is overkill anyway.
Not saying Motul doesn't have other advantages over another oil but that's not one of them.

Believe it or not, the wal mart brand "HD 15w-40 is exactly the same as rotella. They just didnt pay for the jaso spec. Chevron delo 400 15-40 is the same as rotella as well. The wal mart oil is $2.49 locally. Id stick with rotella in a newish 250 or 450 but I have no qualms of using it in my new rancher 420, my rm, and everything else when rotella's not available.
didnt know that, I watch for it at wally world.

You're right. Humans should not get worked up when they see others being disingenuous for a buck.

Strength of character matters to me. For that I make no apologies.

I think im gonna go with Maxima Maxum 4 premium... its super low cost and is made for motorcycles.. rotella for me personally is too high risk.

So your criteria for determining quality is only based on price? It could be because they make millions and millions of gallons of Rotella. Its a quality oil that meets or exceeds all the motorcycle manufacturers specifications like JASO - MA.

That's it I'm convinced. I'm switching to Rotella for all the bikes. Should save a few bucks.

Ya'll should get in the habit of cutting open your filter after replacing it with a new one.

Carefully cut it opep and fold out the paper element to see exactly how your engine is living.

The metal shavings should stay consistent with consistent oil changes.

If a rod is starting to fail you can catch it before it comes undone and destroys the cases.

If you have a magnet epoxied on the drain plug it will collect much of the shavings but cutting open the filter is still a good way to see a problem early.

Been doing this since my first 4 stroke back in the early 80's. Just as I've been using a good quality motorcycle oil also. When someone's life is on the line the few extra bucks are insignificant to me. I have worked in a few mc shops over the years. No way the bosses would allow car oil in the shop. I'm sure insurance regs may have something to do with that.
