When he hurt his knee in Seattle 2012 he was on the road bike 3 days after surgery. With some surgeries you start therapy right away to prevent scar tissue formation and loss of range.
Funny how he went to Germany to see the GP and it was also funny how Adrian Peterson visited Germany after his knee surgery and magically sped up the process by 2 months. Hmm.
The guy dominated the last four races of the SX series, leading all 80 laps, with the hurt knee, and now after getting it fixed and rehabbing it he's riding a bicycle with his wife. I'm thinking some of you guys are assuming the injury was a lot worse than what it actually was.
There's a huge difference between running with Roczen and Dungey outdoors and going on an easy bicycle ride with your wife.........

Lots of top athletes go to Germany for a rehab procedure called blood spinning, since the procedures aren't yet approved in the US.. Not exactly 100% on the name of it, but searching that should net you results.
He said Saturday that he was just cleared to walk without crutches, he made it sound like walking was the only thing he could do and no sort of training. WTF? Bizarre, you can't make this shit up.
Bicycling does not impact your acl, and stationary biking was the biggest part of my rehab from ACL surgery. Started slowly after just a 3 weeks. The only danger that he risks is dabbing is foot and risking an injury.
Bottom line... part of his rehab and fitness. Nothing to see here.

Like TriRacer said above, he was spinning on a road bike three days after his last surgery. I doubt he was on a training ride with his wife in the photo.

Bicycling has less impact on your ACL than walking, and is a major part of rehab, especially building your quad muscle back. I was on a stationary before I could walk without crutches after surgery per my physical therapist.

Wow you're stupid and have no clue what you're talking about. Bicycling is the biggest form of rehab for ACL replacement (in the beginning).
He's riding down trails and keeping his leg clipped in, not like he's racing red bud.

I know, just trying to stir the pot. Seems like guys go there for "tests" and miracalously speed up their rehab by months.

Funny how some of you will grab at any straw you can to try to bring RV down. you guys got nothin on him except empty rumor and shit talk speculation. Same goes for RC......Its like you never seen an athlete in training in your lives!!!
Maybe wait till WADA/USADA bust him before you guys post about him doping. (otherwise you just look like a dope)

Have you seen his wife? I don't know if she could get on a bike and just putt around.. She could fart and go 70 miles.
It is good to see him getting moving again like this, I would give anything to see him at the MEC.
Had my ACL repaired in 93, it was completely torn in two. My doctor was the team doc for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Hamilton Tiger Cats (football), said he'd never seen one completely torn. Told him he'd never met me before, stick around, I was pretty special. I was on a bicycle 2 weeks after surgery, he was shakin his head, a little too aggressive on the rehab, apparently. At 6 months post-op though, he also said he'd never seen someone be able to get their heel up into their butt, for range of motion. I guess my plan worked. I would imagine RV has some pretty good people in his medical team, with good advice.
Honestly I don't know how you could really "speed up a ACL recovery"....
By using the leg and not letting it atrophy by being in a leg brace or not bearing weight for 6 weeks. It's use it or loose it. A good rehab specialist will know exactly what to do. Also using opposite leg patella graft will allow for way faster healing, earlier rehab and has a very low failure rate.
Well me neither but top athletes go there and get treatments that arent approved here in the U.S. and seems to have positive results.
Correct. It doesn't make the treatment illegal, just not something approved or accepted as normal here in the U.S. Why wouldn't he look out side of good old 'Merca. I'm thinking if he's going this far for treatment he has no intention of retiring.

No shit
I was responding to the post about using some "not legal method in Germany" or something.
You're not really right about the graft as different situations can call for different grafts. There's 5 options I can think of right now. All have slightly different characteristics of recovery.
6-7 weeks after surgery and being in a bicycle is about right I think. It's supposed to be even less stressful on the ligament than walking. I'm surprised he actually waited that long. I've heard of people doing short bike runs 3 - 4 weeks after surgery. Glad to hear he's on the road to recovery.

Post a reply to: So I guess RV has been in the saddle a week or more...
