I met the Genovas last year and started following motocross at that time....I don't comment much because I admit I don't know much about the sport but when I can apply basic principles to situations, I do. The Genovas are good people... I support them and their team and I can comment based on known facts.....not hearsay or third party info which is why I've only commented about the Alessis.

there is about 5-6 usernames in this thead that are the either the same person or a group of MCR family/workers. they make up the only defense of TA in thread because no human with half a brain would be trying to justify what he did.....again.
If you are referring to me as one of the 5-6 usernames, you are wrong. I have only 1 and have always had the same one from the time I signed up. I'm a fan of the sport and I definitely don't agree with everything anybody in the Alessi camp has done over the years. Read what I have posted on this, it only refers to the part that Matthes did regarding the situation. Piling on the Alessi camp just to side with Matthes and excusing the idiotic role that Matthes played in all of this shows some serious lack of judgment.

At the same time we are all guilty of saying nobody covering the Sport tells us about these type of things.

Steve didn't start this thing , He just ended it.

Still trying to understand why Matthes would travel to see Alessi. Is the Canadian National scene something Steve enjoys reporting on and has done it in past years? If not, was he there to print a positive viewpoint of Alessi's Team? If not, he was there just to fuck around and Tony saw thru the bull shit.

And here are a couple more very obscure facts... Steve is a 4x Manitoba (that's in Canada) Champion and got his big break in journalism writing for Racer X Canada Smile

this is not the first time Tony and Mike Genova have tried to control or limit Matthes reporting on stuff that happened at the races, the infamous video that showed Tony, Mike and Jeff at Washougal arguing over Matthes tweeting that Jeff had been removed for using a Laser Pointer, in that video Tony claims that he should be asked before Matthes tweets something,

Makes both parties involved look pretty frikkin stupid is what I see. It could have ended with Matthes laughing at him (which he had every right to do considering what was on the paper), giving the paper back as requested, and walking away to do another interview. Matthes didn't initiate the issue, but he took it to a whole new level with his actions afterword that wasn't necessary.

man...get real. 90% of this board woulda handled it the same as steve did...actually probably worse as most everyone here woulda probably took tony up on the fight so they would get their chance to ding him.

this was predicted. tony is predictable and everyone here knows it. He's trying to live this life through his kid and everyone but Tony knows it. This won't be the last either....there will be more episodes of crazyness to come...until mike separates from him (which will never happen) or quits racing.

Your right, it's obvious that Matthes did want to report that, and apparently you are of the same opinion to do the same if in his shoes. It's a pretty punk ass move in my opinion. So you're saying you view Matthes as a responsible, professional journalist? What responsible, professional journalist handles a situation like this in the way Matthes did? He could have said these were the terms of the interview and I didn't agree with them.....not make a mockery of the situation and make statements such as Tony had another meltdown and generate 10 pages of circus.

Dear someone in the Alessi family or Motoconcepts, That's exactly what I did. I laughed, realized he was serious, said I wasn't signing the "contract" and proceeded to walk away. End of story...EXCEPT Tony asked for the contract back (and again, shouldn't I get to keep a copy of this underhanded attempt to control media? Why was there something in there that said I couldn't tell anyone I signed this? Pretty shady no?) and I said I would have to look it over and walked away.

And that is when he exploded, calling me a mother fucker, saying I'm not "protected" in Canada, asking me if I wanted to "go", some more Mother fuckers, telling me that no one likes me, etc etc. And he was yelling all this.

Once presented with the terms, I refused and walked away with my "contract" to review...then he, once again, became very unprofessional and an incredible asshole. This is on him. I posted it, (like I said in the other post) because when people are bullies and a-holes, they need to be called out on it. Maybe next time, he thinks a little bit harder.
You can try and defend yourself all you want. Be a man and stand up to Tonys childish outburst and tell him what you think of his paper to his face....or are you intimidated by a profanity spewing guy that may top out at 5' 4" if he's wearing fuck me pumps? Running off like a little butthurt baby and tweeting this bullshit makes you no better than the guy you were trying to make a fool of. Until you opened your gossiping mouth to the internet masses the only people that would have known about this are you and Tony. It's up to you to show who the adult was in this childish situation and you failed. Like I said before, if this took place between Tony and DC I can guarantee you it would have never made twitter. Act your age, be professional, and maybe you will get a few more followers other than the drama desiring kids that listen to you now

As a follower of plenty of sports outside of moto, I could absolutely see that happening if an nfl coach did that. The difference is, the coach wouldn't do that, because other sports have figured out to employ a PR person for this type of stuff, not some hot head dad of one of its players

Remember Rex Ryan's video leak about the foot fetish? Now that was news!

Sorry to piss you all off , just thought it was kinda childish the way it was handled. Would have preferred a brawl in the pits between the 2 and hope to god someone got it on video.

Next time leave the "I'm telling on you " Tweet to something a little more newsworthy. I know it's hard to do in the land of social media but it would be nice if the sport does not sink into this national enquirer bullshit. If this had happened between DC and Tony nobody would have never heard about it, someone with class like DC would have NEVER resorted to twitter to cry about it
I agree with Kenny T - this is not news. Its sensationalism gossip. Steve had a choice: a) let it go or b) tweet to start a fire storm. Had this been any other rider, I believe it will end up hurting PulpMX. Since is the Alessi's, there will not be harm; only goodwill (think Star Magazine vs. Vanity Fair

I stand behind my TA analysis: he is his biggest hurdle. Mike's his own biggest hurdle due to his attachment to his dad. A lot of meaningless distractions in that rig.

TA could of easily pulled Steve to the side, said we are all good. Shook his hand. Done deal - no drama.

As far as some of you folks, why do you get off on this shit? Why do you enjoy it?

so Tony tries to gag the press, and you don't think it should be mentioned at all? anything else you want swept under the carpet while we are at it?

If Tony thinks the guy is out to get him, just calmly tell him he is not able to interview his riders (like Genova did earlier in the year, then talked it though with Steve and got them back on the program),

some of you guys are missing the point, steve has had no issues with mike or tony since lazergate. mike was just on the show not too long ago and steve still supplies him goggles??? how is this interpreted as "having it out for him"???

Forget Drug testing the racers, that is the least of the worries in MX/SX.

We seriously need to drug test the MX/SX team personnel and the MX/SX journalist types..............Tony Allesi and Steve Matthes should both be first.

^^ this exactly.

What if the media only reported the good stuff or only what the teams wanted. No one would read it. It would be like watching North Korean news.

As much as Steve probably shouldn't of posted the contract to fuel this fire, how else will Tony learn? There's no way Tony would have listened to Steve telling him the contract is unethical and walking away.

I probably missed it but I'd like GuyB to weigh in on whether it is business as usual for the media to enter any teams pits without at least making eye contact and getting a nod if not outright asking permission to get under the canopy.

It doesn't matter.

When most media are heading a teams way, the personnel are made aware by each other and everyone scrambles.

When others show up, its no big deal.

Depends on who we are talking about.
