You guys are crazy. I for one, would be honored to race against any big name ex pro. This is for the Vet classes. It's mainly for fun, and I doubt anyone is taking it very serious at that level.

These ex pro's aren't racing in classes that are going to mess up the up and coming racers. Seems to me they are just wanting to have a little fun. You Vitards should try it sometime. Having fun is pretty cool.
I'd be doing my best to learn something every lap. Cuz he'd probably lap me once every lap.

There's nothing to win in the Vet classes but pride. There are no rides or sponsorships waiting for the winner. For that reason I don't see the problem. Loretta's is about racing the 39 other fastest dudes in that class or age bracket. Former pros are not super human, they are mortals again and should be allowed to race.

With that said I don't believe for a second that Emig has anything for Reynard in the +35.

It's not about whether they are allowed to race ... it's whether they should have a separate class.

I don't care how out of shape they could possible get, a multime-time National champ pretty much is super human compared to amateurs.

I haven't tried it yet, but it is probably a fair amount of effort to take time off from work and trek to LLs for the week. I would think most ( but not all ) who line up are looking to do well. I just don't think some amateur should have to look over and see an Emig or Ward lined up against them. Maybe a Masters class for former Pros would be more appropriate.

BTW - I've been on the track with no shortage of top pros - anyone in So Cal can ride Thurs practice at GH - and all you learn is how to stay well out of their way. They blow by you so fast you are better off hopping off the bike and just watching how they handle a corner than attempting to keep them in sight on the track.

yeah. There may be a few guys taking it seriously. But for the most part, it's all in fun. You should go and talk to some of the vets. They are there for the week long party and awesome racing from the young kids. I may try to qualify in the next couple years or so. And I damn sure won't be taking it that serious.
Wrong. IMHO any RACER who races takes it seriously. Sure some of the back markers are there just for the fun; but they're not racers - they're riders that are racing for fun. Not many of those go to LL's.

So let me get this straight.... If I wanted to race the senior class at LL there is no skill break done (A,B and C clases)? As a "C" level rider, I'd be racing against ex national champs and pros? That kinda sucks
Yeah, it does kind of suck, but look at the bright side, if you are peddling around in C class, you won't have to waste the week going to LL's because you won't qualify anyway.

I raced against him or at least up the start straight. I qualified 4th 40+. Super pumped. Started right next to him un-purpose. Super good guy. He just wants to race. Who cares if he's an old pro. My claim to fame is 2002 Mammoth Vet Junior winner. I suck and I made it. Quit complaining and just go out and do it. Can't wait for LL.

DTHA70 your guy was haunting me both motos. Good for you and him that he made it.

Good pic, I would have moved over on him as soon as the gate dropped and then try to run him off the track, but that's just meEvil

If he wasn't a bike length ahead of me up the straight I would probably tried. Ha-ha.

Mx. The only sport that you can eventually race your old heroes. I think that is pretty sweet. Fair or not who gives a fuck. Would you rather lose to? Joe blow or Jeff Emig!??? Haha

There should be a separate class for former professional racers. Motocross is all about talent and opportunity, and former professional racers have exponentially more talent as well as the opportunity to grow this talent compared to amateur racers.

Imagine how cool it would be for former professional riders from different eras battling at Loretta's. Also imagine how cool it would be for actual amateurs having an actual chance at a championship at an amateur national.

I am all for allowing former professionals to race Loretta's, but to ensure a level playing field they should have their own class. Perhaps it could be called the Legends class.

At the World Cup of Motocross in 2002, they had such a race for former professionals. It was awesome to watch!

Who the fuck is he gonna race? How many ex-national champs or pros are there who are actually racing, let alone riding? It'd be him and Dubach if Dubach wasn't racing REM that weekend.

I don't get why people get pissed about this. Lorettas or any amateur title is meant to be the best of anyone not pro. If he's not racing pro anymore and is older, WHERE ELSE is he supposed to race?

Seriously, if he wins the plus 30 or whatever, and people who are in that class are pissed, they should calm down, you're not going pro, the dream is over, maybe see what you can do with the Fro and get him to sign the jersey he kicked your ass in! That's what i'd do!

Robbie Reynard , Trampas Parker , are just a couple who have raced it. I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting. RC did it a couple years ago in + 25 ...or was that last year. I wish Dowd would give it a go.

I totally agree with Crush on this one. In the end these are guys just like the rest of us who want to go and enjoy racing their dirt bikes against their peers in their age class man, let them enjoy it after grinding away at it back in the day. I also think they are a pretty inspirational example of guys that are older, who still try to stay in shape, and can still ride a dirt bike pretty fast. Cool for kids to see guys like Trampas Parker and Dubach and Emig race at the same event they are in. I would love to watch them ride in that environment.

If you are the guy that gets 2nd and are a weekend guy that never raced pro or won a sx title then you might be pissed.

It is your chance to win a national title and some ex pro with his bike sitting at the kawi tent getting smoked over by their mechanics and he rides in in his BMW an hour before the moto, dresses in the semi while the mechanic sets the bike off the stand for him.

All the while you just brushed your teeth in a water bottle and hung you last clean dirty shirt over a tree limb out in the back 40 campground and made a ballona and mayernaze samich out of you iceless cooler.tring to clear your head of a sleepless nite because you parked beside 2 50 yr old teenagers.

Ok... So we're up to a 4 rider shoot out, with 3 blokes who probably have half a dozen bionic joints each, shitty knees, beer guts (not Fro, that suit is self tailored haha) and hardly any riding time, kids, wife and the Tennessee heat.

Let em race. Quit ya whining. Get a signature and hopefully do some bench racing with some past moto legends afterwards!

Again. If you get 2nd, to JEFF FUCKING EMIG, who the fuck cares.

Don't know about Polvony, Ferry didn't make it last year, doubt he will this year, and even if he does, 6 riders in a class that's meant to be 40. And likely they won't.

Who cares

Tim Ferry won +25 last year. I'm not on the side saying this is a bad thing either. I don't care one way or the other. Just pointing out it's more that a couple riders and the number will likely grow. Not all of them are fat and out of shape either, lol.

Apologies, thought Timmy pulled out last year, must have been the year before.

I still don't care, and I still don't get or understand what class people think they should race in. They're not pro. They're over 30. What is there?

If your over 40 and you get second to Emig the only person you can be pissed at is yourself for not turning pro 24 years earlier. Who cares that old pros go and race vet classes that no one would give two shits about if guys like Emig wouldn't race them, because of him they might get more coverage. I like how you act like most over 40 fast guys at LL are not rather comfortable with there finances....

Like it or not you have to be close to pro speed to qualify for the open skill vet classes at Loretta's. If you can't run at least a Vet A pace you don't have a chance no matter who is trying to qualify. Taking out a few former pros from the top of the field will just allow a half dozen other fast guys on the gate. Loretta's was never meant to be for everyone, it's an elite event.
