seeing Roczen and Dungey, two extremely "squared away" team mates running on the absolute trickest bikes in the paddock, both led by Roger DeCoster no less, both wearing trick Fox gear, it's so reminiscent of Honda's squad in 1985. and a good comparison of that is one of the most beautiful races you'll ever watch; Heat 1 of the '85 Daytona Supercross, with Lechein the youngster out front and a seemingly duplicate Bailey in pursuit.

heat begins at 4:10. and even if not for the Roczen, Dungey comparison, just watch it just for one of the finest moments ever filmed of motocross style and fluidity. both are simply awesome.

Thanks for posting that vid, but you forgot one inconsistency....KTMs are not the trickest bikes. They suck and neither one of these guys can wait to get off them. Just ask anyone who posts here. Whistling

you may be right, i hate to hear that. i mean, the brand is now winning championships for the first time in it's history and from the outside at least, their design seems to be far advanced to the others. they just have it together.

hopefully they can work out these final details that separate them from the Japanese bikes, because they've made me a total fan, from a spectator's point of view.

They only were out front because Villopoto had surgery, Reed is getting old and Stewart can't set up his bike.

Interesting to note the beginnings of scrubbing with some of those guys.

yeah just look how similar they ride in that heat, like 2 fighter pilots in formation. there's just something cool about that. they're both taller riders, and both had that style like art on the machine. Dean Wilson kinda has that too. anyway, when i saw moto 2 on Saturday, this came to mind. really good start to 2014 season. i thought i'd miss Villopoto being out there but i got over it!

Yea, those KTMs are trash.

They only own Dakar, AMA Enduro, GNCC Racing, World Enduro, World GP MX, Extreme Enduro, and they are off to a good start in AMA MX. I for one would never own one.

Whose fault is it if JSE can't set up a bike? I'd say it's his fault and/or the teams. JSE has so many people making excuses for him, it's embarrassing. JSE is the FMOTP, if only ______________ fill in the blanks.

The guy has been racing since he was what 3 or 4. he should know how to setup a bike by now.

Time to bring out the asterisks? Dungey only won because Villopoto is at home. Poto only won because RC is at home. RC only won because RJ got hurt, etc, etc, etc. You race who shows ups. You cross the line first, you win. That's racing.

For sure. He falls into that (rather large) category of unbelievable talent, but not having everything necessary to dominate.

And I don't think Bailey was toying with Ron...when Ron was on, nobody could touch him without an extremely good effort.

Di you notice how still they are on the bike. They let the bike do all the moving under them. Not a lot of wasted movement.

KTM is the new Honda for sure.

You forgot that they are only good in Europe because they make special frames for every rider based on height weight and riding style.

Yes and in displacements of 350, 360 , 365, 370 , 372 , 381 , 402, 410 , 436, and 450. Whatever that particular rider wants.

I was out of the sport for about 10 years, and that was during Bailey's reign. The little I've seen of him, he seemed to have all of the attributes of a dominant champ: natural talent, determination, physical conditioning, and intelligence. I gotta ask those of you who watched him race, do you think he'd be near the top of the record books had he not gotten injured?

It's cool the way that you asked the question. I've thought about this a great deal side David's injury.

Because of the timing of David's wreck, and because of the lack of the internet back then (lol), David's most recent results leading up to the crash aren't really talked about very much.

As was the custom back then, a few of our elite guys went right to Europe after the nationals ended. In those events, DB dominated, first in mx, and then culminating with a win in the european version of our "Superbikers" style race. David actually put a beating on them pretty bad. I know RJ was there, and I would assume that Malherbe and all the top guys from europe were there.

i know that David was never more confident heading into a season, and planned on doing major damage. Unfortunately, it may be that confidence that got him where he is.

How do you guys know what they run? They just tore Cairoli's bike down at the last GP....it was a 350.

A short while before he was hurt, he was at a race in Charlotte NC and was jumping a jump that was never intended to be jumped. It was jaw dropping crazy for the time. I'll never forget it.

man i love that, i'm actually pretty jealous. bailey called me once, a few minutes after i sent him an email. this was like 5 years ago, and we talked for an hour. it was during the tour de france and i'm a cyclist so that helped, but ultimately i was just a major fan so it was like, seriously??? david bailey is on the phone??? it was such a moment. just have always been so impressed with his mindset as a racer, his unique blend of character, poise, grace, and the badass speed that made him one of the greatest mx racers ever. glad you guys liked the vid...
