Because he's gnarly. No matter how many crashes, injuries and missed races you have in your career - you will earn big checks as long as you are a threat to win.

What a cool way to start the season.

Not discounting his moto win, but he has turned a lot of laps on that track. Let's see what the rest of the season holds for him. I think it will be a big step forward if he can stay injury free for the whole season.

Great first moto, and the charge from dead last in 2nd moto to 15th was impressive to me.

As he mentioned during his One Lap video last week, he's almost 30. He has a lot of laps on all the tracks.

Like I said in my Grant thread...he's been pretty fragile, and probably not all JGR hoped he'd be...but the guy is damned talented on a dirt bike, and he's got a lot of heart.

This. And for the record most of those guys have a lot of laps turned at GH.

That is why Josh keeps getting rides. He has the speed to win, maybe not as consistent as some would like. But that top level speed isn't very common. Great ride for Josh and that push back from like last in moto 2 is great to see.

People need to see this man race in person, he just flat out hauls ass!
He crashed right in front of us in the sand, nailed his his hip hard& calmly buckled his boot & picked up his bike(I told my brother he's done) and then went back to hauling ass. Big props to Josh, he never gave up...

unlike you, I've been a fan for a long time, and when you see all the bad luck, crashes, injuries, dnf's and more over the years, rides like these remind you why you're a fan.
stoked for him, JGR and the Yamaha YZ450f.
congrats guys.

Like Travis Hudson said, all of the guys have a ton of laps on this track. They practice at GH all of the time. Grant winning there just shows how good he really is. Hoping he can keep it up all season long.

Ask him how many laps he has at Muddy Creek. 30 or not, he has thousands of laps at GH and it isn't because they train there on Thursdays.

I wish nothing but the best for Grant. He's trying to support his family so I hope he can make the most of his time in MX. However, factory riders are paid to get two good motos in the outdoors. Grant didn't do that. Winning the first moto shows his potential that's for sure.

I have to admit...you caught me with your fishing-hook/thread title...

Josh was in REALLY "Good Spirits", yesterday. You might not have noticed, but, he pitted during the 2nd Moto to fix something on the bike...and he came from waaaaaaaaaaaaay back there...yet...he still passed 25 riders and got some points for a 5th O/A.

Also, he showed he can WIN and he's got "It".

Stoked for Grant!

(He needs to keep that helmet paint)

I got a laugh out of this yesterday. Especially since the biggest "robot" in the sport won.

If your name isn't Mike Brown, you don't have that many laps at Muddy Creek...

"fishing-hook/thread title"? I didn't start the thread so I'm not sure what you mean.

I agree Grant is good and has potential, but whether he's got "it" I'm not convinced. His history of inconsistent finishes is there for anyone to see. I do hope for a break out season for Grant just because I like seeing the underdog come out on top.

I don't see this question being off topic, so I'll ask it. Who has more laps at GH - Jeremy Martin or Blake Baggett? If that's going to be the logic for why Grant won, you'd expect that Baggett would have had at least one moto win at his hometown track. You can't just chalk up the win to hometown knowledge. That said, I don't see him with many more moto wins this year once the series gets going.

Oh man,,,, I bet RC read Denny's message, took a good look at how you can win a moto and not be a robot and is now wishing he hadn't wasted his life working as hard as he did....... I'm happy for JG though.

True...but he almost bought the farm on the last lap or two 3 or 4 times which as you know indicates physical shortcomings for fairly long motos. He is lucky he didn't ditchwitch his face into the ground.

So true. Bro's race for moto wins. Robots race for overalls and championships. I will say that Grant was impressive in his come from the back in moto 2.

Exactly.

That was one hell of a first moto.

Not many people can dominate a moto like that. And teams will pay for that.

I was outside planting and got a call from his Aunt all excited asking me..."Should I tell you?" Of course I said heck yes.

Beaming she said "Josh got the holeshot and won the first moto." He is a badass. Cool

Or any other east coast rider. So would you say Grant is the master of Budds Creek? My point is that GH is his home track, he grew up in Riverside. Saying that he has a mastery of all tracks because he is 30 and has ran one race a year for the past 12-13 years vs. the track he grew up riding is absurd.

All that said, the guy was flowing in moto 1 yesterday. It was nice to see and I hope he has a good season.

By simple math,...Both scored 34 points and the better 2nd moto gets it.

How often did RC, McGrath, Hannah, Bailey or even Villopoto drop the bike after a moto 1 win? To be in the company of Deegan or Bogle vs. the riders I just named can never be a good thing. His mechanic was standing 5 feet away. Flame on nut huggers but that kind of shit is disrespectful, and there is no denying it.
