My dad restored an XR 75 a while back then let me ride it when my QA 50 broke. Bad idea. I didn't know how cool it was back then.

The wife bought this the other day! Gotta get my garage floor epoxied up soon so she can tear into it. Too many projects, not enough time. Youngest son just left home for the Marines this weekend so the next couple years may yield some finished projects. I have an old Maico for some important guy on the left coast that has to go first. Then my junk.

My first scoot! Loved it. Mine was all red black stripe on the tank MR 50 decal on the air filter cover

I love the new "old" frame. This is off topic, but I would love to figure out the dimensions of the Champion,Redline,Trackmaster short track frames and build some replica 250cc framer short trackers. I like the idea, I don't know that anyone beyond a couple of lunatics would care.

Have fun with the XR-75.

Great collection Dew Dew! What pipe is on #44? Noticed it has a decent long run out of the head before turning.

DG Exhaust. I have been collecting for 6 years. The 44 bike was shipped from Iowa to North Carolina. Pipe was already on it. The motor seems to be bored and is much quicker than the others. Model cars to me. I have only found a few locally. For the good runners you have to travel.

My first bike was a used 74 Yamaha GT80 that came out of a garage fire. I can relate to the stripped lights and the BMX plate. Oh and mine was NOT impressive in the appearance or performance dept, but the damn thing never quit running. Rode it every day for two years and never changed piston or rings. The 78 YZ80 I got next was the space shuttle in comparison.

My second bike was a used 74 Yamaha GT 80 after a very brief spell on a Honda CT 70 (I lived). That GT 80 ran forever, and sounded a lot better than my buddies '78 XR 75. That GT got me hooked. Kinda of amazing to look back and think how much that bike has really cost me over the past few decades.
Holigan - On your CT70, did you break the handlebars or the frame first ?.......such fond memories. Fold down handlebars were not the ideal set up for jumping.

For those of us that are a certain age ...it is hard not to envy Newmann. LOL

Thanks for posting the MR50. My brother died a few years back, and that was his first motorcycle. He rode that thing...anyway, I remembered buying it. That was a real bike with a real clutch. Three gears, but otherwise just like everything else.

The Bike was two years old, a non current model. It was a 1974 and the year was 1976. Total cost for the brand new bike, OTD..freight, dealer prep, tax, license, etc was 275.00. That was the offered price. There may have been room to discount, from there. Honda must have had a million of them left over???

These little Honda's are therapy to a lot of us. My Dad is recovery from illness. He was just over this weekend for Mothers Day and the first thing he did was sit and look at the bikes. Smiles and stories followed. That's what they are good for. Of course I live in a Golfing Community and love to ride up and down the street just to piss everyone else off.

I always loved those XR75/80s. I guy in my condo saw I had bikes and said I could have his old Honda if I wanted it. I went and looked at it and it was missing a seat, pipe, side panels and fenders. He said it would run so I took it. I put gas in it and it fired up on the second kick. Those bikes are so bullet proof.

I didn't want to buy all the original plastic as you see them all the time. I love the early 60s of MX and I learned how to ride on my dad's old 1958 BSA Gold Star so I thought I would make a mini tribute to that. Thought it came out ok and I know there is not another one like it. Not bad for about $350 in parts.

My first bike was a '78 XL75. My neighbor had an XR75 - not sure of the year but it was grey - and I begged my Dad for that bike. I ended up with the XL, lights, turn signals, horn and all. It wasn't long before I stripped all of the lights, signals, etc. and rigged up BMX number plates to make it my own XR. Too bad I don't know how to scan and post old pics, you might be impressed with my creation Newman Smile
You can always take pictures of your pictures with your phone and post them. Lowers the quality but works.
Same deal with me. My neighbor had the XR I wanted and my dad got me a KDX.

I'm assuming that DG swingarm is on an XR75 and not the MR50?

Lol, Oh I was on it trust me. From what I've found DG only made a couple swingers for their own MR50's. Only production bits were the head and 3 different pipes.
