If you wear the top of that post or pin off there is nothing to hold the clip.

No titles for Mitch AGAIN this year. Ouch. Just awful luck for that team lately.

Good,with the abuse they give them .

Even more rare if the chain was the cause,

One year the sliders were bad on some model,dont recall the brand,and were wadding up into the countershaft.

That sucks man really suprised he broke a chain, I almost dont see how its possible unless it was off on adjustments but I dont see that happening to a pc bike or any pros bikes especially if it wasn't the master link. the one and only time I remeber anything chain related was dungeys rmz450 southwick? even that one it just popped off the rear sprocket, didnt he put it back on and finish the race too?

They have a master-link...just not the clip style most of us use. They use a rivet style just like street bikes. There is a tool that mushrooms out the pins so it works similar to a continuous chain. That way there is no clip to pop off.

It is put on the same but the master link is braded or you can tack weld it which is what I've done with o ring links before.

A rock could cause the chain to fail,gets run in thru the block and then wedges between sprocket and chain.

Effective with the 2007 season points, riders earning at least 135 250 SX Championship points in an nine race season, 120 250 SX Championship points in an eight race season, or 105 250 SX Championship points in a seven race season, in three
seasons of 250 SX competition will be ineligible for the 250 SX class

I would bet that the pro teams never re-use a master clip though. They cost $5. With a clip link....it is quick to pull a chain to clean it...which is a big advantage.

Interesting... All I know is that I heard Kenny Waston on pulpmx say that they riveted chains when he was a mechanic just to take out the possibility of the master link clip coming off. He made it sound like everyone else did it too.

I've been turning wrenches on aircraft since '76. The industry has cut too much budget from maintenance for me to feel comfortable in the air. I just drive unless it's an emergency. Statistics say that it's the safest form of travel but they NEVER mention the actual crash to death ratio. Yes I am paranoid.

That is true, BUT if he wins title he will be bumped. Otherwise your're correct, he can stay down. Last time I interviewed Martin he sounded pumped about possibly moving up. He said he's always felt good on 450 and his (I think he finished 4th) Monster Cup result on the Suzuki 450 showed he's capable on the big bike. I don't blame him for not moving up, though. His choices have always been to either ride the 250 on a great team for good money or ride the 450 class on mediocre equipment and not make much money. I think it's stupid for people to fault him for what seems like an obvious choice.

The only way to have a continuous factory made chain is;

1) Know your gearing requirements for every condition so chain could be pre-made
2) Install chain with the swing arm

Most unlikely has gearing changes would be a serious hassle!!!
