What was your first bike?

My first bike. 1972 Suzuki TS50. Ended up racing it and putting a 70cc motor in it. Was better than the xr75's in the sand.

I had one of the '89 CR250s and it was sweet until you got headshake on a straight in 5th gear. Great motor but probably the worst set of forks ever on a bike. I think it was the first year for upside down forks on a Honda and they really needed some work.
I never had that issue with mine, but then again I had put stiffer springs up front before I even through a leg over it.

And I'm guessing you'd need even stiffer springs now than in '89.Tongue

TGTech and BMSOB those are two sweet bikes right there. TGTech you must be related to the Pentons. No body got a bike that sweet for their first one.Smile

'85 CR80. I was 9 y/o and that thing scared the crap out of me! Hit the powerband, panicked, started shifting up (rode a buddy's and tranny was backwards) whisky-throttled a ditch by the road, jumped the rode and landed between the tree line and a barbed wire fence. Took 6 months to get me back on it and even then I rode about 1/4 throttle staying away from the hit of that powerband.

Oh yeah.....32.

My first was a brand new 1970 Honda Trail 70. It cost $349 which was my entire savings. The worst punishment I ever had as kid was getting grounded from riding it for 2 weeks. I remember acting like it wasn't a big deal to be grounded from it so I'd just get a whippin the next time I got in trouble. I've had 18 dirt bikes since that one. But, its the one I wish I'd kept the most. I'm 47.

Don't know the year, but it was an Artic Cat Screamin Demon mini bike with a 2stroke 135cc rope pull engine and a straight pipe (no silencer, no arrester). It was a little terror and seemed louder than an aircraft taking off.

John Penton is one of my mother's brothers. I bought that bike in October of '69 and was sponsored ever since.

1979, my folks went in halves with me on a $75.00 dirtbike with year old gas, rusted tank, been painted multiple times. I seized it up doing doughnuts, and my dad took the 71 Yamaha JT-1 Mini Enduro to the dump. Today at 38 I'd love to have it back.

6 years later I celebrated starting high school by getting a 1980 RM400. I mss that one even more.

Ist bike, homemade mini-chopper with B&S engine. My brother and I rode the piss out of that thing. It made us expert mechanics as well since it required 2 hours of maintenance for every hour of riding.

1st real bike, 1973 Yamaha GT80, the street legal version. It was at last 3rd hand that I know of, paid $150. Stripped all the street gear off except, of course, the speedo. Had to know how fast I was going on my top speed runs. That's right, I was pimpin' !
