Getting excited now as the main event is only 1 week away. Team USA fly in today apparently.

Here's my question though. I don't have any official facts, I wish I did, but

I remember from Matterley 2 years ago that Team USA would only ride if they were exempt from the FIM rules on noise, fuel and drugs. Its a fact that US teams use fancy fuels and very loud pipes to boost power output compared with Europe, where they are not allowed. I believe the exemption was allowed so they wouln't have to re-engineer the bikes.
The soundlevel and fuel differences were also very apparent with Villy's bike compared to the Euro ones at Budds last year.

I understand that Team Kawasaki would not want to spend a lot of time sorting quieter pipes and jetting for cheap pump gas, BUT, surely everyone should be racing to the same basic set of rules??????????? The European Kawasaki Team should be able to give them parts to meet the FIM rules...

We have a sport in the US with the level playing field that you describe. It's called Nascar, every time a team finds an advantage, they get punished by having their spoiler or air dam cut down, or something.
The essence of racing is innovation and progression, if you take that away it's called Nascar. NHRA is the most free motorsport, remove the bodies of two funny cars and take a look around. They are two different animals, but finish within 10th's of a second apart most of the time.

They were running euro spec pipe on Ferry's bike at the last race this year. That would lead me to believe that we will follow the rules (I have been wrong before)

Now you know what we deal with with our stupid Lites names.

The Shop

if they will be tested on drugs, they wont come
if they are tested on fuel, they wont come
if they are tested on sound, they wont come

they know that if they dont come it would just be a gp for teams, so they are allowed, but it isnt fair, but hey life isn't either.

i do think that they have an advantage because of that, but given a european kawi they would still haul ass.

I agree entirely they would probably still win on a Euro bike , and if they did the win would be even sweeter for them. It is encouraging if they were testing a Euro pipe on Ferry's.

BTW, its raining hard here today!!

Next yrs AMA sound is 94db so most teams are probably already working with quieter pipes that should pass your sound tests.

Rain forecast until Wednesday then dry for the rest of the week, Sunday included...but this is Britain...so expect the worst! Our weather is extremely changeable to say the least!

Honestly, I dont think they need any help to win the event.
The only difference would be how far in front they are.

The key words in your post are"I don't have any official facts"

That is all a bunch of Bull S#%t rumors that made the rounds online most likely from you know who. Coincidently he has been quiet recently.

If it were true than it is the FIM's fault for not enforcing their own rules.

to be fair in 03 05 and 06 only one AMerican won their class RC in 05, 03 and RV in 06, KDUB Tedesco Bubba and Tedesco, Hughes and Ferry in 03 again all did not win their class- they are not usally out front on their own but they do have the strongest team every year with all their guys near the front

to be fair isnt' winning as a team the point...you idiot..."how far out in front" is referring to the fact that they consistently score a considerably larger amount of points over the euros...we will see what happens this weekend...go USA...don't get hurt wasting your time beating up on Euros who spend their careers dreaming of America...

If all those rumors are true, how come back when they were on 2 strokes they always talked about having to do testing to meet the european requirements and setting their bikes up differently? I'm pretty sure they have to go through tech like everyone else.

I don't have any official facts, I wish I did, but ...

I heard AC would not race @ Budd's Creek for the MXDN last year unless he was allowed to chew down one tree per day @ the facility!

Wait a minute, this sounds like a rumor or some sort of fantacy bullshit. Sorry AC for the reference, just making a point that my statement is worth as much as Fraser's.

Yeah I knew the line about cairolis bikes being late for the MXoN was just a cover up. He was busy down in the lagoon building himself a damn when he nearly missed first practice

I'm not trying to slag off Team USA in any way, I'm just searching for the truth.
I've been told unofficially now that Team USA bikes will be noise tested to the FIM standard. Maybe its all unsubstantiated rumour, lets hope so. I've also emailed Youthstream and asked them, so hopefully I'll get an official answer...

Team USA last year did not comly to FIM regs on fuel and sound, can't comment about drugs, dont' know, but for sure, not compliant on the other two, one of their bikes was over 114 dB's I know which one, but can't say , FIM limit last year was 96dB =/- 2dB,s, this year, 94dB. AMA is FIM affiliated so should be running same rules for their own Championships.

They should always have been noise tested this has been going on for 3 years now... BArtolina the Italien team manager and De Reiver and others have said it and nothing has been said or denied by YS. obviously a ploy by Loungo to allow the US in to raise the prestige of the Event in the US!! But its about time they played by the rules like everyone else !and stop getting un-needed advantages by rider faster bikes than the rest of the countries- no wonder they always get the starts!!!!

I know for a fact that they were testing the fuel and pipes that they use in europe, so that would lead me to believe that they are using them. As far as I remeber they have always been required to run the FIM fuel. I had a little involvement awhile ago with getting the team ready and they were smoking a lot of pistons back in the 2 stroke days testing with unleaded fuel before the AMA ran it.

Are all the euros making excuses before the race even starts?
