Pretty sad. I'm sure this will cause a meltdown of epic proportions unfortunately.

What ever happened after McGrath tried to start a rider union many years ago? The issue seemed to dissapear. The promoters are greedy and feeding the circus animals peanuts. It wont change until the riders take a united stand insisting that there is no show for the promotors to make money off of without them. It is a dangerous sport and the rewards should reflect the risks these rider take for our amusement.

You are right Jimmy that is an absolute joke. Something needs to be done. If there is anything I can do consumer wise I would love to help. I have been thinking of not attending SX for a few years now because of the greed and how much of a politics show but that really wouldn't help your cause.

But that kind of payout for the money they draw is a CRIME!!!!!!!

But engine ice and the "insiders" will say he doesn't understand the cost involved and then ask what a "fair" payout would be....what happened to reed starting up an advisory group? Was all the talk for about 2 weeks a couple of years ago and then never heard a word again, did the mafia get to him?

your right Jimmy, its a horrible payout, but until they dont have full qualifying heats for the night show, the promotor will not have to change,

until the riders stop turning up, nothing will change,

It still amazes me that the entry fee is $200 and the payout is so low. If you think about how much tickets cost and how many people there will be at Atlanta this weekend, plus all the T-shirts and stuff they sell at a event, the riders get screwed hard.

It's true though that unless the rider's stand up and do something about it then it will always be like this. I for one would love to see the rider's protest right when timed qualifying is about to start! The factory guys would never do it though in fear of breaking their contracts and its not them who is leaving off peanuts, it's the privateers.

Something that has to be factored in is how much it costs for dirt and to make the track per event. Plus paying all the other people who are working the event. That has to be a big number!

There shouldn't be a entry fee though thats ridiculous.

Motocross action listed a rule where you could not take part in a walk out,

i dount they could stop all the privateers not entering Vegas by saying they had run out of funds to compete

Just think if you make the main minus your entry fee, you make $150 for last! Now calculate in how much the pro license is and they are in the negative unless they get top 5!

Captain of a private jet makes about $600/day, plus food, hotel, rental car etc. He does NOT pay entry fees.

I don't think you should do it a the last minute. Set a deadline to have something done in advance. You boycott at the last minute you will have 65000 enemies in about 10 minutes.

Something needs to be done for sure but these are things to take into consideration.

Alcohol and food goes to the stadium
T-shirts go to the vendors with a percentage going to the series for the ability to sell "supercross" stuff at the events.

Rider entry I believe goes to AMA (not sure)

Ticket sales alone at Atlanta at an average ticket being $35 is $2,450,000 (70000 @35)

On an average event 45,000 times $35 is $1,575,000

I think they can find room to pay more than $300 to make the 22 main show. Considering they wouldn't have a show if it wasn;t for the riders

I'm all for it, I'll boycott everything SX until something is done if need be. SOMEONEs getting rich off your broken bones.

How about Cirque du Soleil..? I go to a gymnastics and acrobatics gym sometimes to practice flips and spins for wakeboarding... A number of the really good gymnasts/acrobats there are in the circus arts / performance world.... If you get an apprentice position at Cirque where you are learning and not yet in a show...you might get $30K/year +room and board. Top top Cirque performers who are in shows, with lots of experience earn up to $250K/year + room, food, etc...but there are only a handful at that level. When they are doing a show run...they are of course usually in a place like Vegas or some other resort area. I have also heard many of these performers party it up hard in Vegas...they are sort of B level celebs there... Keep in mind that many of the Cirque performers from the gymnastics and acrobat side are ex elite athletes....

sad part is there will always be another kid to replace him (or any other rider) regardless of the pay out.

I'm probably not going to be popular here... but it's not like he was blind sided by this. I'm sure the payout was posted before the season and seems comparable to previous years payouts.

I agree that it's a low amount.

The fact is you're worth what someone is willing to pay. And while being able to ride a dirt bike the way they do is very respectable and comes from a lot of practice and hard work... at the end of the day it's only entertainment.

If he doesn't like the pay, he has the option to leave it. And if he does decide to leave it, Someone will take his place. Feld doesn't have to raise the payout until people stop showing up. And even then, the top guys will still show up.

Honestly, he could probably do like Bowers did and go make a name for himself in Arenacross. That guy gets flack, but he's getting paid.
