Osterman to the fans, "GET OFF MY LAWN, DAMMIT!" He really needs to step back and understand why Discount Tires is on his shirt--for that fan standing in line. He pissed off a fan, and Discount Tires lost a customer. Brilliant. If 30 minutes isn't enough time to take care of your fans, that's your job to fix--they're paying to see their heroes, and part of your job is to accomodate that....FOR YOUR SPONSORS WHO WANT TO SELL THEM TIRES, OR MOTORCYCLES, OR GOGGLES, OR GEAR. Sometimes those "in the industry" forget about the importance of all those butts sitting in the stands. To them, they're just a pain, a bother. I'm sure those sponsors really hope noone comes around to Chad's pits and bother him anymore, right? And by the way, Dave, fans who don't have a pit pass can't come back into the pits after the main--but you're an "insider" and wouldn't know that.

Either way, we diagnose people all the time with clinical fractures without evidence of a break on Xray or CT scan. We often have people come back in a week to get re-imaged to find the subtle fractures that can hide.

Are you high or illiterate? He was commenting that people don't respect that these guys are at work. Some people don't get that and think that they are there just for them personally. I was lucky enough to be in the KTM pits last weekend. After qualifying, Roczen was clearly in a hurry to get back inside and do whatever he was going to do. It was super obvious that he wanted to get his helmet on the dryer and go and relax. Still, people were calling his name to get his attention. To his credit, he went over and said a quick hello and then got back inside. These guys need some down time to get there head in the game, watch video or whatever and real fans should figure that out. Hell when I was a crew chief, I wouldn't talk to the driver while he was sitting on the track waiting to go. Hwy? because it was obvious that it was his time to try to mentally get his shit together since the rest of the day is a goat rope.

Steve, Jeffro, not a noob, far from, it. Been in the "industry" since 1977, and I think Dave has been around close to that long, too. His comments do hit a nerve with me, because I've seen it way too often, and seen the looks on many people's faces after that happens. I have observed the riders routines and the spectators' routines over the decades, and fans have always been bugging riders for autographs, goggles, gloves, whatever. But when one industry insider bitches to another industry insider about the very people the sponsors are going after, in a publication that those sponsors (and people) are buying advertisements in, I would hope you can see the disconnect.

Thats grashey view.It shows the glenoid joint space of the shoulder, and thats not the collerbone thats fractured. Its the acromion of the scapula.

Osterman could have probably suggested that the fan give him an address so Chad could sign something when he had more time and mail it to the fan. He has to cut the line somewhere and if you keep letting just one more fan in, it could go on forever.

True....though it's not often you're lifting your arm over shoulder height in supercross (apart from pulling a tear off). Still, I would be shocked if he attempts the race, and even more so if he finishes!

Three things:

1.) That's a lot of water works from Osterman. I'm so sick and tired of the word "haters." You're making a living by entertaining the masses. Of course you're living under a microscope. Of course there are people that will dislike you for absolutely no reason. The fact that you wasted your entire interview crying about "the haters" instead of commending your fans makes you look like a real douche. There will be negative people around you all the time - get over it.
2.) It looks like Reed has a broken collar bone. Reed has always had a propensity to overplay his injury card. Remember his "3rd degree separated shoulder?" I understand that he's in better shape than we are and has access to better doctors than we do. But, there's no way he rode supercross with a 3rd degree separated shoulder, and there's no way he can ride supercross with a broken scapula.
3.) I am a big Chad Reed fan - I will continue to buy from Discount Tire because they support him, I own some 22 Motorsport apparel, etc... I didn't like him until he got off of Yamaha because he used to be pretty whiny. He seems to have dropped that now, though. Maybe it's because Osterman does all of his whining for him.

Why are you guys being critical of Osterman? He answered the questions he was asked honestly. He didn't sugar coat it he voiced his honest opinion. The fan that wasn't happy about the line being cut of was given another option by Dave "I told him that if he came back after the main event then Chad would sign an autograph for her." If the guy wanted his kid to have something signed by Chad he would have made a little more effort. I understand it would have been late at night but he was given a option. I am a Chad Reed fan my 3.5 year old son is one of the biggest Chad Reed fans I have seen if I went to the race to get something signed for him I would have let him sleep woken him up got it signed and went home. The next day the kid would have had what he wanted. I think Dave was spot on with the sense of entitlement that people seem to have in this day and age when it seems like a lot of people are only looking at things from there side of the fence. If you go to other types of motorsports events while some of them are getting better you have no where near the access that you do at a SX or MX event. The only other large motorsports events that are even close to that amount of access is the NHRA. I have been to many NHRA races as well as Nascar races and neither of those have autograph lines or the access to the riders like SX and MX. The NHRA races you stand horded around the guy trailer if you are lucky he will stand out there for a few minutes and maybe you get a autograph then he walks of and that is it. They don't give you gloves or helmets or anything like that. If you attend a Nascar race you can't even get close to the drivers without having a very expensive "HOT PASS" ticket and even having that ticket doesn't mean you will get a autograph as again the drivers aren't that accessible. Why as fans can we just not be happy and thankful that you get to see the riders up close and have the access to the teams and riders that we do instead of complaining. Ask yourselves this how would you feel if they just signed a bunch of poster sit them out in front of the trailer put a card board but out of themselves beside it and never interacted with the fans on a personal level. Then you couldn't complain you could get your picture with any of the riders you wanted have a autograph from that same rider without having to stand in line. Sorry to rant it just gets old hearing all the crying and complaining about someone not getting this or not getting that.

A friend of mine stated just about the same thing as you did in #2...... His take was, sure Reed took a digger and is hurt obviously -anyone who rides knows that one stung in the morning and for a few days after....but is all the broken bones - watch me race dallas a bunch of exaggeratted hogwash and just an oppurtunity to make more of a "story" for the "old guy" and is it just another thing for Reed to say to everyone along with im washed up, im old, now im injured and in it to win it.....i understand his view but honestly I am not sure why anyone would want to make stuff up basically..

My take is, I know the dude is dedicated and if the doc's are saying he is crazy to ride, then he may go out an try only to realize its not going to happen abd call it aday after one lap like Tomac did in PHX....But if he goes out and miracuously manages to get a top 5 , then maybe things were a little exaggerated....I dunno - he's going for it so we'll see what happens.
