Seems like not even James calls it the Bubba scrub anymore, obviously so because C class riders bust em out. But every now and then James pulls a genuine Bubba scrub, totally different from a regular scrub that most others could perform. The last two that come to mind involved passing RV.

Awesome move last night by James, this is seriously a killer SX season!

I think he was "scubbing" that dragonback section. He was really fast through there.

That scrub was cool, but what really did it for him was the 180 leading into the whoops, and then that 90 degree corner. When his bike is working for him (A1, Oak, SD) he can do that early turndown exit...and shorten the track while carrying the same exit speed as RV. It is nuts. When was the last time you saw RV get passed on straight corner speed. Stew also had him bettered on the flat track corner as well.

Yup, it was a helluva move. I shouted out "THE BUBBA SCRUB!" and only after did I think of how no one says that anymore, but why it was also fitting in that situation. The Monster Energy Cup was the other one I was referring to involving Villopoto.

I had an Anaheim SX vid from '95. "Big Bird" was leading on his Noleen, Sizzler, Yamy and MC passed him over a triple for the lead. During the pass, Eckman and Bailey talk about McGrath staying lower over the jumps and introducing a new, BMX inspired, style of riding... We were blown away! Up until the "Bubba Scrub". These guys are style/technique pioneers. Thanks fellas.Cool

I heard someone say "tailwhip" recently and thought the same thing about it. But maybe the term is more alive in the BMX world.

I dunno, I actually like the special distinction for a special scrub by James and James only. Like the two examples I listed, Saturday night at SD and the MEC, those scrubs that got him passed RV. THOSE are Bubba Scrubs!

I was still a little in shock of Reed's crash, then they cut to James crossing the line but it wasn't a close up shot, and when he threw that whip and took his hand off I thought he overcooked it and was crashing! Shit's gnarly

Exact same thing here. I just saw him upside down with his hand off the bike and thought it was lights out for a split second.

he threw a scrub over the triple during practice and my gf, new to sx, said he went over it all sideways and she thought he was crashing. He still throws them every now and then.

Jeremy's style of jumping with the front wheel down and the back end up much higher in the back was so cool when he busted that out in the Chaparral Yamaha days.....maybe it was earlier but that is my recollection.

Glad I wasn't the only one! I was watching with my girl and I kinda tensed up and had a Ricky "oooh aahhh" and then he just came down all smooth.

Such a great pic. I'll never forget David Baily's reactions when Bubba first came on the scene. It was like the first slam dunk or something.

Ok so we all kind of half seriously joke about how the industry reads vital. I dunno if anyone else heard James after his W, but he called it the Bubba Scrub. I'm not stamping it but I think someone in his circle saw this Cool
